The Icebound Land (Ranger's Apprentice, #3)
The Icebound Land (Ranger's Apprentice, #3) - John Flanagan The Story Continues...

More fun story, more lame writing. It's driving my crazy how much these characters can read into a small nod of the head or a gleam in someone's eye. But I'm a sucker for a good story, so on to book four!

The Icebound Land
The Icebound Land (Ranger's Apprentice, #3) - John Flanagan

There are some major spoilers here for the first two books in the Ranger's Apprentice series!

Will and Evelyn are abducted to Skandia and sold as slaves, as Halt is forced to leave the Rangers and teams up with Horace in order to find Will and bring him back to safety, while also fighting their own battles in Gallica.

It starts right off where the second book ended, so I was immediately sucked into the story once more. There are many new places in this book (especially of course the cold, cold, Skandia). It's nice to see how determined Halt is to safe Will.

What did trouble me though was that the end of this book, once more, didn't really feel like an end to me. There is still so much that needs to be solved, and as these books aren't big, I wonder why they don't just combine some of them.

 Now, onto book four!

Note: I read a Dutch translation of this book!

The Icebound Land (Ranger's Apprentice, Book 3)
The Icebound Land - John Flanagan Full review found on Tales Between the Pages

As always, I’m a big Evanlyn fan. Her character and strength are so powerful, making this series accessible to both boys and girls. I covered that in my review of “The Burning Bridge” if you want to read more about it. “The Icebound Land” takes her strength to a whole new level because she becomes solely responsible for Will’s well-being when they escape. She has to keep them both alive. And she does a fantastic job.

I also enjoyed the rapport between Halt and Horace as they embark on their quest to find Will and Evanlyn. Despite the gruff exterior, Halt has a good heart. Horace brings that out in him. In their journey, they find a rather Don Quixote-like character to battle. I had a lot of fun following that story line. With some of the harrowing things that Will and Evanlyn go through in the book, it was nice to have a little comic/action relief from the two of them.

Ranger's Apprentice: The Icebound Land (Rangers Apprentice)
The Icebound Land - John Flanagan Two threads of a story, Will and Evanlyn, kidnapped by Skandians and Halt and Horace travelling to find them. Halt takes drastic action to release himself from his obligations as Ranger and finds himself exiled for a year. Will and Evanlyn have to deal with being slaves and escape. It's fun and interesting and I really want to know what happens next!

The Icebound Land - John Flanagan Divided narrative a bit disappointing. Will absent for much of the book. Love the development of Evanlyn's character - resourceful, smart and loyal.
