Sweet Ruin
Sweet Ruin (Immortals After Dark) - Kresley Cole

Immortals After Dark, Book 16

I Picked Up This Book Because: Somehow I managed to skip this while reading the series

The Characters:

Jo (Josephine Doe) : (view spoiler)
Rune: Dark Fae/Demon or Bane Blood
Thaddy, Nix

The Story:

Jo has an amazing story. A poor child refuge caring for her infant brother, Thaddy, landing on earth. She manages to care for him alone until she is killed and her transformation is triggered. Rune is a big deal in the Morrior (Opposing force to the Veritas in the Accession which is imminent) They come together maybe by happenstance maybe by Nix’s devising. Rune is sent to kill Nix who just happens to be hanging out with Thaddy.

Jo an Rune have a semi complicated love/hate relationship in the beginning. Their chemistry is off the charts but neither of them has the capacity to trust. Herein lies the source of their problems.

I loved the story. Jo and “Ruin” cracked me up. It was great to see so many characters from the Lore, even if it was jsut that one scene.

The Random Thoughts:

The Score Card:

Sweet Ruin (Immortals After Dark) - Kresley Cole

Oh my goodness, this one was so good. It was so hard to put it down. I loved the characters; Rune was such a strong male lead with such a dynamic personality and history, and Jo had so much spunk, attitude, and fire on the page. The plot was very strong and carried the reader through it all from beginning to end. The conflict wasn't some malevolent bad guy but rather how Rune's past colored his present and Jo's desire for companionship even in the face of a man who, on more than one occasion, told her he wouldn't be faithful. Her drive to protect her brother and then reunite with him also added a depth to her character that pulled the reader in. I loved how strong her personality was on the page and when the inevitable happened and she left Rune it was so heart wrenching. I really did worry that Rune wasn't going to see the error of his ways before it was way too late to salvage his relationship with his mate. There isn't anything I didn't like about this story. Loved it!

Wicked Abyss by Kresley (I love this author) Cole
Wicked Abyss - Kresley Cole

I absolutely love this series, Immortals After Dark. I set alarms for release dates, I get desparate enough to troll fanfic, I even have my tattoo dude drawing a tat for them. Something interesting... Before drawing the thing he is reading the books, he loves them, just wishes the porn scenes (as he calls them) weren't so frequent, I have no problem with their frequency ;).

This is a Beauty and the Beast retelling, probably the best I have ever read, and I have read quite a few of them. I could see a great resemble between this and Disney's animated movie, I haven't seen the new one yet though, I really want to. We get relatively new characters, and the story is set in a new to us realm were most of the previous characters are not present, so not a lot of revisiting going on, we do get brief glimpses though. I do wish we got to see a bit more of the Valkyries, I miss them crazy bitches!

I loved the couple in this and feel they were perfect. The female, Lila. She is smart, tricksy, bold, and tough as nails. The male, Sian, is a hulk of a beast. He is also smart and tricksy, but he has some past baggage that is ruling his thoughts and actions. He does a lot of growing up during the pages of this story. They have great chemistry and I thoroughly enjoying reading of their battle to love.

This is another match made by Nix. There is so much going on. Nix is trying to make her best hand before dreaded ascension is full force. I am considering a reread of the story. Can't wait for the next book. Beauty

A Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark, Book 1) by Kresley Cole
A Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark, Book 1) by Cole, Kresley (2006) Mass Market Paperback - Kresley Cole

A mythic warrior who'll stop at nothing to possess her . . .

After enduring years of torture from the vampire horde, Lachlain MacRieve, leader of the Lykae Clan, is enraged to find the predestined mate he's waited millennia for is a vampire. Or partly one. This Emmaline is a small, ethereal half Valkyrie/half vampire, who somehow begins to soothe the fury burning within him.

A vampire captured by her wildest fantasy . . .

Sheltered Emmaline Troy finally sets out to uncover the truth about her deceased parents -- until a powerful Lykae claims her as his mate and forces her back to his ancestral Scottish castle. There, her fear of the Lykae -- and their notorious dark desires -- ebbs as he begins a slow, wicked seduction to sate her own dark cravings.

An all-consuming desire . . .

Shadow's Seduction
Shadow's Seduction (Immortals After Dark) (Volume 17) - Kresley Cole

Shadows Claim, the first Dacians novel is my favorite in this series. I love the ability that these Dacians have. Mostly being able to turn to mist.

I love Cole's writing and the worlds she writes about. I was a bit worried after Sweet Ruin that this series was taking a turn I didn't like. I do wish we had seen more of our favorite characters, but this is only a novella.

A lot of people have issues with this being a m/m. I admit I really wanted a sweet Dacian vampire princess for Cas, but a prince worked. The are good together and the prince really tamed the demon.

As far as story progression goes, this is a cliffhanger! Uhg... really? At least the next comes out soon.

In a nutshell: not my fave but not horrid.
