Just another adventure..
The Throne of Fire - Rick Riordan

Save the world and survive!? Nothing to it! Join the Kane siblings as they work through another harrowing adventure and save the world from being engulfed in Chaos.

Apophis is close to escaping the prison that he was cast into thousands of years ago, and the Kane's have to find the three parts of the Scroll of Ra to prevent it from happening. Only thing is, they have to find Ra as well and awaken him from the sleep that he was put into by Isis in favor of her son Horus. But they know they have one chance, and they cannot fail or the entire world is finished.
Sadie and Carter have some differences of opinions at times, and both are just as determined to get their way. Sadie wants a day off, (right in the middle of the world falling apart), so she takes off for her birthday, and ends up in trouble instead. But when Carter decides to follow a clue to find Zia, it could not have come at the worst time. The window for what they have to do closing fast, but he runs off to find her,and get a couple of surprises in the process.
As Sadie and Carter reunite to find Ra, they know they are almost out of time, but they have to do everything within their power to keep the world from falling apart, and keeping Menshikov from unleashing a power worse than what they have faced before...

This book was GREAT! I loved reading through it and was captivated from page one! I cannot wait to dive into the next books to find out what happens next! Next couple of years, I will start reading these aloud to my boys, I think they are perfect adventures with a little history thrown in.

Review of "Heir of Fire" (Glass Throne, #2) by Sarah J. Maas
Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass Series #3) - Sarah J. Maas

This reader's personal opinion, ©2016, all rights reserved, not to be quoted, clipped or used in any way by Google Play, Penumbra Publishing, amazon.com or other commercial booksellers*

I understand why friends' reviews for this one are all over the place.

This one took a turn back to the opening chapters of the series where M.C. was badass out to accomplish stuff rather than moping about pretty dresses and love triangles and being under abusive control of powerful male (the villain king). Loved that. But quickly devolved with her Aunt Maeve putting her under control of another male pretty much back into apprentice role even though now it was learning magic instead of assassin skills and once more full of angst and another court's politics. Yuck.

Eventually worked back out of that (very last chapter) and she's once more on the move towards the end goal of freeing N.'s folk and destroying King and demons.

In the meantime, one POV switch after another after another after another. A few paragraphs of one POV eerily reminiscent of the scene from The Dark Griffin - K.J. Taylor  book where escapes chains could get interesting. POV switches put reader inside various character's heads -- but instead of interesting was just leading up to a rather stupid red herring bit. You know, every chapter in a character's POV had all but one potentially going to betray the prince willingly or unwillingly except for one POV ever so sweetly clearly on prince's side then *bam* of course was suddenly the one found out to be conspiring with enemy but somehow was never in their thoughts chapter after chapter.

Seriously—while I still like the story and the characters and will read on to find out what happens next—this whole book could have been the opening couple of chapters for the next book with M.C. briefed on the POV switch stuff.

Ratings scale used in absence of a booklikes suggested rating scale:

★★★★★ = All Time Favorite
★★★★½ = Extraordinary Book. Really Loved It.
★★★★☆ = Loved It.
★★★½☆ = Really Liked.
★★★☆☆ = Liked.
★★½☆☆ = Liked parts; parts only okay. Would read more by author.
★★☆☆☆ = Average.   Okay.
★½☆☆☆ = Disliked or meh? but kept me reading in hopes would get better.
★☆☆☆☆ = Loathed It. Possibly DNF and a torturous read.
½☆☆☆☆ = So vile was a DNF or should have been. Cannot imagine anyone liking.  (Might also be just an "uploaded" word spew or collection that should not be dignified by calling itself a "published book." If author is going batshit crazy in the blogosphere over reviews -- I now know why they are getting bad reviews.  Or maybe author should take remedial classes for language written in until basic concepts like using sentences sink in. Is author even old enough to sign a publishing contract or do they need a legal guardian to sign for them?)

Starting for today's Bookshelf BINGO call of "Favorite Series"
Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass Series #3) - Sarah J. Maas

Meaning on that goodreads shelf, not necessarily my favorite series.

It's a just off hold library book that fit the shelf so can't ignore it.

But approaching with trepidation because I just finished another YA book, liked book 1 but got annoyed by book 2, and reviewers whose tastes I usually share are all over the place about it.

*sigh* we keep collecting three in a rows with the majority of other teams having at least one four in a row.

The Throne of Fire - Rick Riordan

I just gotta warn you, I'm gonna sound super pissed off in this review. But I didn't dislike this book! I was just extremely disappointed, and was so caught off guard by it that it made me annoyed.

First of all, the romance between Walt and Sadie. (And Carter and Zia, but I'll discuss that in a minute). What's with the romance in this book? It's so irritating because it distracts from the plot AND its instalove. No. Just no. And then there's a semi-love triangle between Anubis and Sadie and Walt. NO. Fuck off, love triangle. As much as I hate it, I'll take instalove over that any day.

So, let's talk about Ra.

The depiction of Ra pissed me off so much. I felt like it was very disrespectful to use Alzheimer's for comedy. I mean, obviously it isn't explicitly stated that Ra has Alzheimer's, but he's old and forgetful, so I just figured that's what it was. And it pissed me the fuck off because it was so fucking disrespectful that we were supposed to find his Alzheimer's funny
Maybe I'm way off base, but I'm still annoyed about it.

Also, I like Carter and Sadie. I do. But they make a lot of stupid decisions. Considering the fucking world is ENDING, at times their priorities are very skewed. Sadie goes to London for her birthday instead of looking for the Book of Ra. Carter drops everything and abandons his sister to save Zia, the girl he is madly in love with for no apparent reason. Fucking get your head in the game and focus! Speaking of Zia..I hate that Carter is so infatuated with her. They've only ever technically met once. It's so stupid and it's instalovey. Although she is a cool character.

Also, Menshikov is the most annoying villain ever. His motives are so fucking stupid.
Basically, he wants to destroy the world because he was horribly scarred trying to perform a magic ritual and it backfired and it made him all bitter and angry. Fuck that

(spoiler show)

thought the first book was pretty funny. But this one kinda fell flat. There's a few good comedic moments here and there but most times I was unimpressed.

That's a lot of negative, and I'm sorry for being a debbie-downer. So, here's what I did like: . There's a lot of action so it's never boring, and that's good. And as I said above, there's a few good comedic moments here. And I don't know why, but I like Set. Sadie and Carter think he's a villain, but I saw him as merely mischievous.

Tl;dr version- Although I'm extremely disappointed by this, I didn't completely hate it. I will still read the sequel. Let's hope it redeems the series.
