Some of the reference books for SUNDARK, An Elle Black Penny Dread
Hekate Liminal Rites: A Study of the rituals, magic and symbols of the torch-bearing Triple Goddess of the Crossroads - Sorita D'este,David Rankine
The Victorian Kitchen Garden Companion -... The Victorian Kitchen Garden Companion - Harry Dodson,Jennifer Davies
Beeton's Book of Household Management (Southover Historic Cookery & Housekeeping Series) - Isabella Beeton

Good Evening. ^v^ #amwriting 41K+ words on SUNDARK, An Elle Black Penny Dread. ALSO, taking a gander at Book Five of Praeparatio Evangelica, by Eusebius of Caesarea, which has a fascinating section on ye old pagan gods, including Hekate. Tidbit obtained, I've placed the last puzzle piece (concerning Her), into Sundark. :D

SUNDARK may be Victorian pulp fiction (Victorian telekinetic housewife battles possessed, mechanical hotel), but when I research, I really get into it and it just makes the story all the more rich, intriguing, and meatier. Hekate Liminal Rites: A Historical Study of the Magic, Spells, Rituals and Symbols of the Torch-Bearing Triple Goddess of the Crossroads has been perfect for that.

The BBC series, Victorian Kitchen Garden (book version shown), has also been a wonderful subject to indulge in for Sundark, though I believe I've learned enough to want to take the Victorian walled garden further into a cool horror story in the next Elle Black penny dread (yep, the darn thing as grown into a series).

And writing about a Victorian psychic detective who's also a serious housewife means I can't ever do without the essential Mrs. Beeton's Book of Household Management. I try to use as early a version as possible (though since Isabella Mary Beeton died at age 28, her book was revised often), but since the facsimile pictured is going for about 400-600 USD, I just reference a free online version.

BACK to it, because I hope to have the manuscript done and reread by me, several times, by next week. THEN to the beta-reader.

Book Five of the Paraeparatio is here:

SUNDARK an Elle Black Penny Dread

Elle Black, an unconventional psychic detective in an unconventional Victorian marriage, leaves her housewifely duties to answer a desperate plea. Guests are vanishing in a mechanical hotel known as the Sundark, and Elle must use her 'anomalous perturbationist' gift--the ability to moves objects with her mind--to save herself and the remaining hotel residents from malevolent, sidereal powers. But with apparitions appearing, magnetic lines disrupted, and clairvoyant guests lurking, who is the true murderer---or murderess?
