Kindle Freebie and Dogs vs Groundhogs (aka Woodchucks aka Whistle Pigs)

There is this as free in Kindle (at least in the US) and looks a bit interesting.

Also the dogs vs groundhogs score is tied at 2-2.

The first match occurred a couple days ago when taking the dogs for their morning walk.  Our local garden/cemetery allows dogs in the early morning (on leash of course), and we were walking when one of the dogs pulled me over to where there was a groundhog hiding in a bit holed out tree trunk (tree is still alive, there was a little space at the bottom of the trunk).  Haz grabbed said rodent but we made him let it go before he killed it.  I think the groundhog was hiding from the hawk.  Also, I also think it would have been fine if he had killed the groundhog because they have been having problems with the groundhogs burrowing into graves and under grave markers. Seriously, thinking of starting a business.

The second match was this afternoon.  Let the dogs in the back while I sorted and put in load of laundry.  Heard Arrow barking and thought it was because I wasn't out there yet.  Nope.  They had treed a groundhog in this really big bush.  This groundhog is apparently from the smart groundhog family on the block because it was smart enough to climb a tree and the minute the dogs went inside was gone and head home.

I'm counting them as points for each species because the dogs got the groundhogs but the groundhogs didn't die.

Things to Know about High-Quality Hemp Supplements for Pets

As more and more states are legalizing hemp plant for recreational and medicinal use, the cannabis industry is booming at a fast pace. Nowadays, you will find many stores selling affordable hemp supplements for dogs, cats, and other pets. Today, many pet owners are turning to organic solutions to treat various health issues of their pets. Hemp pet treats is an excellent way to bring the perks of cannabis to your pet.

Pros:

a) THC-free, Veterinarian-Formulated, and Organically Grown

Hemp supplements are made using a mixture of seeds and stalks of the hemp plant. It means that it contains CBD and cannabinoids, flavonoids, terpenes, fatty acids, and other beneficial agents. They usually work together to create an entourage effect, hallucinogenic effects, or a high. The phytocannabinoid, terpene, and flavonoid compounds in the hemp work ideally for pets.

b) Easily Available

Hemp pet treats with cannabidiol (CBD) and other pet treats are popping out every day.

c) No Overdosing Risk

It’s rare for the animals to overdose on the intake of the high level of THC and CBD in the medical and recreational hemp pet products.

d) Promote Wellness

If you want your pet to live longer and have a healthy life, add hemp supplements to their diet because they contain minerals iron, calcium, vitamins, zinc, magnesium, and a variety of antioxidants that support healthy organs and heart health.

How to Give your Pet Full Spectrum Hemp Supplements?

Most of the pet owners are nervous about how to introduce hemp supplements to their pets. It’s best to begin slow and check for any adverse reactions. When you switch to hemp full spectrum oil and supplements, it’s common for your pet to showcase signs of illness, anxiety, pain, or other issues at first. But before you self-diagnose your pet, it’s a good idea to get him or her checked by skilled veterinarian. This will help you to determine the cause of his illness, which is essential before starting any treatment.

Dosage

Since cats and dogs have the small body size, so they can take benefit of small amounts of THC and other natural occurring non-psychotropic cannabinoids present in the hemp. Even the small dosage could help to maintain a healthy digestive system while strengthening the immune system.

Hemp supplements are available in many forms like tinctures, balms, powder, biscuits, capsules, bites, and chews. You can give the oil using dropper directly in the mouth, dropped on a treat, rubbed into bare skin or inside the pet ears, dropped in their paw, or add to the food. It's best to follow dosing instructions listed on the products. Just note that when you give hemp oil for dogs on an empty stomach, you will likely to see the outcome in no time.

However, when you add oil to food, the result may take a little long time. It means that effects can take one hour or several weeks. If you are giving hemp oil to distressed pet, you will see the outcome in 20 minutes. For the pets facing chronic pain or other disorder, it could take several weeks.

Also, avoid giving them an extra dosage because you won’t see the effects right away. Make yourself aware of pet behavior, everyday routine, and personality because this will help you to see the results more quickly. After you are used to giving full spectrum oil, you can adjust dosage level to cater to the needs of your pet mainly when he is in pain.

How to Observe your Pet?

Make yourself aware of pet behavior is essential when introducing hemp supplements. Start observing your pet slowly so that any harmful effects can be spotted quickly. If you are adding organic hemp oil for dogs to your dog’s diet for the first time, make sure you stay home and keep a check from time to time.

Bookish anime: Bungo Stray Dogs

Although I haven't watched it yet, I know that Bungo Stray Dogs has a bookish aspect to it - all of the main characters are named after famous Japanese authors, and each of them has a special power in some way inspired by their author. The only one based on an author I've read is Osamu Dazai (top row, all the way to the left). My little character booklet says his ability is "No Longer Human" (also the title of Dazai's best-known work). Cryptic.

The boxed set I bought includes a little envelope with something I haven't had in a while, actual paper bookmarks. Nifty.

Doom
Six years ago, I lost everything that meant anything to me. Since then, I've been moving through life in a fog. My club brothers are the only people I can tolerate, and only on a good day.

Then 'she' crashes into my life and the pain I've kept buried surfaces again. She's a mirror projecting everything I've lost back at me and I can no longer control the rage I've managed to keep in check.

Lyric
I am nobody.
I've worked hard to make sure I stay a nobody while my sister's career continues to shoot into space. I like my anonymity and the life I've carefully carved out for myself.

That is until an angry biker forces me into the spotlight and I have no idea how to stop myself from falling...hard.

Let's start off by saying that this is a fairly new author for us but, we are so loving their books that we have read so far as well as this on going series that we are totally loving it.This author is on their way to being on my top favorites list.

We have to say that we really enjoyed this story from cover to cover. We could not put the book down until it was completely finished. This current story had us laughing out loud the entire time. The story had so many amazing character's to fall in love with as well and we did just that!

We loved Doom from the onset of the story as he was, dark, brooding and broken and a man who seemed to just be skating through life until he was reawakened again by one special women.

Li Li- We really found her to be a hoot, feisty, independent, smart, sexy and a problem solver.Overall she just had this larger than life personality and we loved that most about her character.

Doom and Li Li were super hot together in and out of bed.I found they were just what the other needed it was just something about their chemistry together that had them spilling all their secrets to one another and unburdening their hearts giving them a chance to finally feel free.

This was a wonderful love story filled with tons of suspense, drama, healing, second chances, laughter and perhaps a miracle or two and "we absolutely love it".

I lost Quinlan in high school, but I never stopped loving her. I never stopped protecting her, either. It didn’t matter where my life took me because in the end, I knew she’d be mine. At least, I did until she shut me out.

Now there’s a threat that could destroy everything I’ve ever wanted, and I will move heaven and earth to eliminate it. Because when I said I’d be there, I meant it, and it’s time she remembered who I am…even if it costs me my only chance at redemption.

"The Dogs Of War" by Adrian Tchaikovsky - Highly Recommended
Dogs Of War - Adrian Tchaikovsky,Nathan Osgood,Laurence Bouvard,William Hope

"Dogs Of War" is an engaging, original, intriguing and accessible Science Fiction.

I'm a sucker for anything to do with dogs so how could I resist something that starts:

"My name is Rex. I am a good dog."?

Ok, Rex is a partly dog-based bioform, engineered to carry out the kinds of acts of war that humans, even most bad humans, would flinch at, but that's not his fault. He was made that way. The question is, will he stay that way?

"Dogs Of War" was my first Adrian Tchaikovsky book. I knew he'd won the Arthur C Clarke Award for his "Children Of Time", which is in my mountainous TBR pile. Even so, I was surprised at just how good he is.

In this book, he delivers speculative fiction at its best. He handles complex ideas in interesting ways that are plausible without being predictable. He creates characters that I care about and who ground the big ideas in the personal and the immediate. He has a plot that unfolds in a way that is both seamless and exciting. And, of course, he has a character that's at least half dog right at the centre of the action.

One of the big ideas being explored here is the evolution of intelligence. In one, action-packed novel, Tchaikovsky manages to tackle the emergence of an AI singularity, the impact of implants and bio-engineered enhancements on humans, dogs, bears, bees, lizards and dolphins. He deals with hive-minds, genius minds, immortal minds, evil minds and implant-enforced compulsion.

Through the lens offered by these differently intelligent characters, he explores the use of violence as an extension of politics, the need/ability to make moral choices rather than follow orders and the willingness of the powerful to strip personhood from anyone or anything when it suits their purpose.

What I liked most about the book is that it is centred on Rex's journey from being used as a weapon by a war criminal who controls him via implants that reinforce his need to be a Good Dog to being a leader who has to decide whether or not he is a Good Dog. I particularly liked that Rex never becomes just a human in a dog suit or an anthropomorphized Old Yeller. He is a bioform who grows to understand his abilities, limitations and needs and tries to behave honourably. He builds friendships with Honey the genius and monstrous bear, he leads a pack, he defends those he believes should be defended and he struggles constantly not to give in to his desire for a Master.

I admired Tchaikovsky's skill in being able to tell the story from multiple first-person points of view. He uses this to develop different perspectives on events, to engage me with multiple characters, and to add to the tension in the way the story is revealed. This structure lends itself well to an audiobook format with different narrators for different points of view. In the version I listened to, this worked very well and greatly improved my enjoyment of the book. The narrators were Nathan Osgood, Laurence Bouvard, William Hope

I'm now an Adrian Tchaikovsky fan. Thankfully, he's quite prolific. I'll be reaching for his "Children Of Time" novel next.
