Abby in Wonderland
Abby in Wonderland - Sarah Mlynowski

This was a cute retelling of the Alice in Wonderland story. Kind of a fractured fairy tales for kids. I'm hoping this will please my granddaughter as it puts any girl of that age into the story. It's quite easy for them to imagine being Abby or one of her three friends. The addition of the clueless Alice was a cute touch. I especially liked that rivals Abby and Penny discovered one another. A classic gal pals (hopefully I can say that) story.

Abby in Wonderland
Abby in Wonderland - Sarah Mlynowski

This is a 3rd to 6th Grade book; Reading Level 4; just right, I believe, for my granddaughter, Zoe. I mean, who doesn't like Alice in Wonderland? I previously gave her Alice in Wonderland but never heard if she read it. Maybe this will spur her on to the original classic. After I read it first.

Wicked Wonderland - Janice Maynard,Luann McLane,Susanna Carr

Well...it wasn't bad. OTOH, it wasn't really good either. Two flings and a coworker who came across as sexually harassing when you get down to it.

The first tale...dingbat heroine manages to miss the train because she's too busy shopping at a gift shop to notice the whistle. Of course, dumb kid running the gift shop has the sensitivity of a brick. She's saved essentially by the artist who carved the items she was admiring. And...I have to ask, was she looking for paint goobers and stuff? The train had left 30 minutes prior when the kid approached her to ask her to leave. I can't imagine staring at a display that long, and apparently she was there far longer since she had the time in the first place. H/h went into it with the idea of a fling, and well, fortunately I guess, they let it morph at its own pace.

The second - h had a history of bad decisions and had made a concerted effort to clean up her life. If that meant buttoning up and covering up, so be it. H had all the appearance of being another bad decision and well, in typical oblivious bad decision-appearing male fashion, pressured her, contrived to be around her, etc. She made a few bad decisions there in that she had sex, several times, *in the office* with him. She finally decided she needed to get away, at which point he shows up to drive her to the airport. She should have kept quiet and just called a taxi. Of course, she never explained herself to him that I recall, and he was too obsessed with getting in her pants to actually talk to her.

Third - I was mostly ok with it until the H started getting pushy about the relationship. The h is currently unemployed and managing a friend's parents B&B as a favor (and well, she needs the money). In Alaska. A 2 week job. She knows it. He knows it. He presses for a relationship and well...she backs off. In the end, she's ready to leave, he's upset, she gets a call asking her to stay longer and...he finds this all convenient and is unhappy. Ummm...ok bright boy, what exactly do you propose she do with all her spare time? Yeah...those last few pages, I wanted to hit him with a clue-by-four.

Come to think of it, two of the heroes in this needed that clue-by-four. Even if a relationship is a possibility, IT'S NOT ALL ABOUT YOU (mutter)

Really starting to get into Manga
Deadman Wonderland Volume 1 - Kazuma Kondou,Jinsei Kataoka

So I liked this manga better than death notes. I think that's because in death note, I think the main character, is already starting to take things to far

I also want to find out what's going to happen next after the ending of this manga, while I can wait a little bit longer to see what happens next in death notes. I am curious on why the main character is being framed for killing his classmates. This isn't a spoiler since it talks about the killing in the blurb.

I only gave it 4 out of 5 stars, because I found my mind wandering around, in certain parts of the story.

I already ordered the 2nd one in this manga's series, and am planning on reading it very soon.

Alice in Wonderland meme

Alice: A book you’ve lost.

My French dictionary from high school has gone missing but I’m still hoping to find it.
The White Rabbit: a book you haven’t had time to read.
See above. Two French historic mysteries that I would prefer to read with the help of a dictionary. I could read them anyway and it would be a quicker read but not as much fun.
Mad Hatter: a book that made you crazy in a good way.
It’s hard to say actually because I often become obsessed with books and their respective universes. I don’t think I can pick just one.
Dormouse: a book you’ve fallen asleep over
Too many to count. Let me explain. Since I suffer from insomnia and pretty much always have, I try to use books to help me fall asleep. Although now that my little rascals have hit the terrible twos (running) they are now helping me fall asleep as soon as they do.
Queen of Hearts: a book that broke your heart
Any book where an animal or child or character I like dies or ends up in some terrible circumstances.
Knave of Hearts: a book that gave you a hangover
I think most really thick books since it takes quite a long time to finish them and consequently you spend a long time in the book’s universe.
Mock turtle: a book that made you cry
Same answer as for The Queen of Hearts above.
