Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead (Vampire Academy #3)
Shadow Kiss - Richelle Mead

WHAT IF FOLLOWING HER HEART MEANS ROSE COULD LOSE HER BEST FRIEND FOREVER?

Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess: a mortal vampire with a rare gift for harnessing the earth's magic. She must be protected at all times from Strigoi; the fiercest vampires - the ones who never die. The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa's best friend, makes her a Dhampir. Rose is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making Lissa one of them.

Rose knows it is forbidden to love another guardian. Her best friend, Lissa - the last Dragomir princess - must always come first. Unfortunately, when it comes to gorgeous Dimitri Belikov, some rules are meant to be broken...

Then a strange darkness begins to grow in Rose's mind, and ghostly shadows warn of a terrible evil drawing nearer to the Academy's iron gates. The immortal undead are closing in, and they want vengeance for the lives Rose has stolen. In a heart-stopping battle to rival her worst nightmares, Rose will have to choose between life, love, and the two people who matter most... but will her choice mean that only one can survive?

WHAT THE HELL?! WHAT KIND OF ENDING IS THAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! I KNEW IT! I WAS FANGIRLING SO HARD AND I WAS LIKE: Oh wow, this is so good now! SO THEN THE AUTHOR WROTE THE END AND I AM DEAD.

Sorry, I have the next book thankfully, but then my brother took my iPad. So it then came to my mind that instead of crying I should probably write up a review for this book. *wipes tears*

This is, hands down, my most favorite book in the series so far! But that ending . . . what happens?!

Loki Tell animated GIF

What’s painful is KNOWING I can read the next book RIGHT NOW. But, my brother—NO. NO. I will finish my review for this book.

Okay, so this book has also decided my love for Rose Hathaway. While she is a flawed character, she has really proven that her qualities are much more dominant, and she has really grown as a character, and a guardian so far in the series! Rose really doesn’t care what people think about her, she never lets it get in the way of anything! :D So, huge bonus for me there!

I think that the character conflicts were shown pretty great too! Rose-Christian HOLY hell do they make a kick-butt team! Rose-Dimitri (I’m DYING PEOPLE! AHHHH! *creepy smile*)! And, unfortunately, Rose-Lissa did break my heart, which made me more mad when my brother took the—by God, I need to stop doing that.

I never knew how problematic the Strigoi issue could turn out to be! It wasn’t until the second half where things started turning deadly. Also, I never knew how helpful the Shadow Kissed would play out in this story! It was pretty cool! But, at the same time, we need to read on ahead to know what happens next.

Also: TWO WORDS. Adrian Ivashkov. He’s mine. :D (Like, Dimitri is also mine, but Adrian is actually MINE mine, cause I have to share Dimitri)

“He stepped back and threw his arms out.

"I'm always crazy around you Rose. Here, I'm going to write an impromptu poem for you."

He tipped his head back and shouted to the sky:

"Rose is in red

But never in blue

Sharp as a thorn

Fights like one too.”

“You, know I'm the Queen's favorite great nephew, Well, yeah I'm her only great nephew, but that's not important, I'd still be her favorite...”

“My cigarettes and I are going outside. At least they show me respect.”

I’M STILL NOT OVER THE ENDING.

Also, with the ending, I kind of disagree with Lissa on the fact that Rose is "leaving" her for Dimitri. She needs to understand that Rose left AFTER making sure that Lissa will be safe without her. And what else is she supposed to do?! Let Dimitri stay Strigoi?! No! She has to keep the promise she made to Dimitri and kill him! UGH WHY BOOK WHY YOU SO THIS TO ME!

(spoiler show)

Overall, Shadow Kiss is my favorite book in the series so far! I want to say SO much more, but I’m so hungover! I was really getting the feels in this one! It is SO KICK-BUTT guys, this series is REALLY starting to pick up, and the books are really easy to get through! I would recommend this to people who haven’t read a whole lot of Vampire stuff and want to try something new!

I NEED to start the next book either tonight before going to bed or first thing when I wake up in the morning!

Thanks for reading my review guys! Hope you have a great day! Until the next one! :D

Top 10 of 2013: Book Boyfriends

Ladies and gentleman after much consideration and google image searching of hot guys. I present to you, the much anticipated, Top 10 Book Boyfriends of 2013!

You said it, Abby Lee Miller, but these guys made the cut!

1. River West- Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by April Genevieve Tucholke
Oh River! I never trusted you but you were still oh so swoony! He has that rich, east coast prepster thing going for him. I just can't resist that as evidenced by Gansey on last years list. At least I know my type rich, dark, and slightly crazy.
Death- Endless Knight by Kresley Cole
I love me a doomed ship and this looks like one of those. Death and Evie have this epic shared history, and he is so lonely. I just want it to work out for him. For my fancast I picked Freddie Stroma best know ,probably, for playing McClaggen in Harry Potter. "I wouldn't mind getting on a first name basis with him, if you know what I mean". 10 Points for Gryffindor if you recognized that quote.
3 Ink - Indelible by Dawn Metcalf
Despite a borderline cliche entrance I knew I was going to love Ink! He has that distant, not quite brooding, air about him and I just couldn't get enough of it! I need the sequel now.
4 Adrian Ivashkov - The Indigo Spell & The Fiery Heart by Richelle Mead
I hadn't seen Douglas Booth fan cast as Adrian Ivashkov before, but I can totally see it! He's got that effortless hot thing going on. Also I'm digging the 5 'o clock shadow *swoons*

I also wanted to congratulate Adrian on being the only book boyfriend to make it on the list 2 years in a row! Lets take a moment to celebrate that.

5 Warner - Unravel Me by Tahreh Mafi
All of the Chapter 62 hype was accurate and the man that made it all possible was Warner! There was no way we wouldn't be on this years list!
6 Jackson Tate - Rush by Eve Silver
I was hesitant about reading Rush because it had aliens. I should not have been concerned! It was an all round awesome read. And Jackson Tate made it all the better. He was secretive, a bad boy, brooding... meaning he was exactly my type!
7 Isaiah - Crash Into You by Katie McGarry
I think the guy on the book cover is perfect for Isaiah; but whoever that CW hottie on the right is...yum! He is also a great cast! He's pulling off the shaved head and tattoo's without coming off as scary.
8 Ethan Landry- The Rules for Disappearing by Ashley Elston
Ethan is a Louisiana farm boy. I have learned living in SD that farm boys never look like this guy! But a girl can dream! Out of everyone on my list Ethan was genuinely the best boyfriend out of the lot! Supportive, kind, and willing to do anything to help Meg.
9 Naji - The Pirate's Wish by Cassandra Rose Clarke
Naji is an assassin so the entire time I was reading I pictured him like this. lol. Not exactly swoony but I love the way he treats Ananna! And his character development made him a great male lead.
10 Chris Henderson - That One Summer by CJ Duggan
I just love the Onslow boys I wish I could scoop them up and put them all on the list. After That One Summer though, Chris is my favorite! As CJ put it male model Adam Cowie is wickedly handsome and beautifully broody. The perfect Chris Henderson!

Honorable Mention
The Darkling - Siege & Storm by Leigh Bardugo
Okay, I know I said Adrian was the only book boyfriend to make it on the list two years in a row; but I would be remiss if The Darkling wasn't on here somewhere! Afterall, I did represent him in the Summer Crush Tournament! After Siege and Storm my feels are all muddled but he is still definitely one of my favorites and after the spoiler Leigh gave us (look below) I have high hopes he will make a comeback in Ruin and Rising! Plus, I do love a doomed ship!

A Darkling/Alina snippet from Ruin and Rising courtesy of Leigh for the holidays!
“Why waste my anger on you when the fault is mine? I should have anticipated another betrayal from you, one more mad grasp at some kind of childish ideal. But I seem to be a victim of my own wishes where you are concerned.” His expression hardened. “What have you come here for, Alina?”
I answered him honestly. “I wanted to see you.”
I caught the briefest glimpse of surprise before his face shuttered again. “There are two thrones on that dais. You could see me any time you liked.”

Review - The Fiery Heart
The Fiery Heart - Richelle Mead
I have two major complaints about this book. Zoe and Neil. Two characters introduced for the soul purpose of being annoying and boring. Although Neil did provide some new material for Adrian, Zoe just spent her entire time ANNOYING THE SHIT OUT OF ME!!

In fact, I think Adrian sums it up pretty well within only the first chapter...

"The newest addition to the group was Neil Raymond aka Tall, Proper, and Boring."

"Zoe had been sent recently as an apprentice and had become a huge pain in the ass for hiding our relationship."

Yep.

Thats it.

Their entire roles in this story summed up in two lines.

ANYWAY...

We get Adrian's POV.

You definitely feel the love in this book. I was all warm and fuzzy inside every time Sydney and Adrian were together. Especially when Adrian was dropping lines like this...

"Relax, having kids is years away. But can you imagine? Your brains, my charm, our collective good looks... then add in the usual physical abilities dhampirs get.

It's really not even fair to everyone else."

Let's face it... I pretty much spent the entire book in this sort of state,

On a serious note, if there's one reason for you to pick up this book after Indigo Spell it's this,

MALACHI IS BACK!!

That, and Mead does manage to skilfully handle a number of issues from relationships and sex to addiction and body image.

So why only 3 stars?

I love this series. I really do, and as a whole I'd recommend these books to everyone. I just didnt find this book to be as gut wrenching and page turning must-know-how-it-ends-right-now-ish as the others. I love that Sydney and Adrian are now together, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss all that tension that the previous 3 books provided.

In conclusion, the ending was HORRIBLE if not a little predictable and as far as cliffhangers go it's all pretty dam frustrating.

I will definitely be picking up book 5 (does it even have a title yet?).

The Center Will Hold
The Fiery Heart - Richelle Mead

Wowee wow wow! What a CLIFFHANGER! I'm going to be pounding the figurative floors waiting for Silver Shadows!

Adrian Ivashkov... I'm not sure I'm as upset as others with the changes I see in him. He is absolutely different from the Adrian from Vampire Academy, but I'm alright with that. The Adrian in that series, and the start of this one, was depressed and fighting the effects of spirit by unloading on vices like smoking and alcohol. As sexy as he was I was always turned off by the constant smell of liquor and smoke that was always described as lingering around him. He sounded and smelled completely unhealthy. This Adrian is taking control and cleaning up, but without losing that brooding artist that I loved. I fall in with the characters who feel that it suits him. As far as his protectiveness and how that's different from previous books, well sure. In Vampire Academy Rose didn't need protecting, she was a warrior. In that world he was the protectED not the protectOR. With Sydney it's different. He feels like she's weaker than he is, it brings out that dormant part of him. He says it himself, "I'm not a violent person, Sydney. Not at all. I'll make love over war any day. But I swear, if they'd hurt you-". I think, push comes to shove, even a passive person can understand that. I love him. He's part 1 of why I love Bloodlines more than Vampire Academy. (I think I said all that in the last review, but it's still relevant for this one, so I'll repeat myself. haha.)

Part 2 of why I love Bloodlines more than Vampire Academy is Sydney herself. Again, it's probably repeating myself, but I LOVE that she's not a fighter. It's not to say she won't try to defend herself, because that would piss me off. And I'm not advocating for wimpy girls who always want to be rescued. Sydney is extremely capable without being a fighter. She's smart. She thinks and plans. Her way of fighting is cerebral, and it's just as integral as those who hold the silver stakes. I'll never be a brawler, but I'm smart, and so I can appreciate a character with those strengths. (And I love that Adrian is just as attracted to her brain.)

The group on the side, I'm sitting here trying to put them in order of who I like more. I want to say Trey, then Eddie, Neil last. And I guess I would stick with that, but at the same time I keep thinking of great things that they all do, and I like all of them. It's the same with Angeline and Jill. I don't dislike any of them. (Not like I was annoyed with Lissa in the VA.) Angeline is hilarious! Jill is sweet.

Zoe, yeah. Hate her. Like seriously. But I won't elaborate. You'll see.

"Not everything about me is cute."

That's true.  Some things are cute.  The rest are sexy."  His voice was low as he leaned toward me.  "So amazingly, agonizingly sexy that it's a wonder I can get anything done when all I ever think about is the taste of your lips and the touch of your fingertips on my skin and the way your legs feel when I-"

"Adrian," I interrupted.

His eyes smoldered, "Yes?"

"Shut up."

We reached for each other at the same time.

4 stars

Let’s play a little game of F*ck, Kill, Marry!

Here are the rules!

1. Pick out 3 of you fav characters & state which book or series they’re from!

2. Decide which one you want to F*ck, Kill, or Marry! (You can only pick one for each)

3. Explain your reasons why!

4. Enjoy the fun!

Okay I’ll go first!

My top 3 fav characters are

1. Magnus Bane (from “the Mortal Instruments” and “the Infernal Devices” series)

2. Adrian Ivashkov (from the “Vampire Academy” and “Bloodline” series)

3.Valek (from the “Study” and “Glass” series)

After much internal struggle, I finally came to the conclusion that I will…(drum roll)

F*ck Adrian…. I would love to spend a life time w/ him reenacting “Beautiful Mind” whenever spirit takes over… it’s just that, I gave my heart away to another…

I will kill Valek… though I do love him! And would love to see him sneaking into my bed room window in his all black spy get up, for a little “Afternoon Delight”, it’s just that he always puts the Commander first…and I’m not okay with that!

And last, but defiantly not least!

I will marry Magnus Bane!

I will not get in to how much I love Magnus & the reasons why, but I will say that I wouldn’t mind waking up every morning surrounded and immersed in glitter!
