Weekly Recap (And STORM BORN Giveaway!)

Well, it was definitely an interesting week! I accomplished a fair amount of my goals, learned some lessons, hosted a cover reveal for one of my favourite new authors, and made some new choices about my career. Not going to stop what I'm doing, just choosing a slightly different workload. I'll explain soon... First off, here's what I completed:

• Finish the plot lines and world building for Agents of Limbo series (More on this below...)

• Finish editing Storm of the Gods and prepare to send it to Beta readers/publishers

Now, I really, really did mean to write the story lines and finish the world building for Agents of Limbo. Believe me when I say that I love the bones of that series– the characters are so much fun, the new world is cool, the romances are heart-warming, the powers and abilities are diverse, and there will be car chases! However... I did a lot of reflection about my writing and what I choose to put in my books. With my thoughts slinking to the Areios Brothers books as I prepare to email Storm of the Gods to publishers, I began noticing the similarities to those novels and Agents of Limbo. Both books are urban fantasies with closely bonded brothers who have supernatural abilities. The settings are California and New York respectively, and while they are different, there could be some similarities that are seen. Since my current plan is to release these novels sometime next year, it occurred to me that they could be seen as copies of one another. That's not something I want. Urban fantasy is my primary genre, but it's not my only one. I love steampunk, dystopia, and will one day venture into sci-fi/cyberpunk. As much as I hate to push Agents of Limbo back again, I have to think about what will best sell my books.

Supporters in my writers group have nudged me in the direction of an urban fantasy/post-apocalyptic story that I've been using for my prompts, and I have to admit it's been lingering in my mind for a while. I won't go into a lot of detail to it now (maybe I will on Thursday, though I can tell you the series will be called Iron Gargoyle), but as far as broadening my horizons and gaining more readers, I think it will be the best choice for now. So, here are my new priorities for this week:

• World building, histories, series outline, and plots for the Iron Gargoyle series

• Continue writing the sequel to Storm of the Gods (my current Work In Progress, because I need to write something!)

• Start more giveaways for Storm Born

So, that's the major news. But is it the only thing I'm focusing on now? Of course not! I have a new book coming out next week! I'm absolutely thrilled about the upcoming release of Storm Born, and what better way to celebrate it's upcoming release that with giveaways?

a Rafflecopter giveaway

A single night can change your life… for the worst.

It’s been a century since the last Centennial Storm, the calamitous phenomenon that covered the world in disasters– tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards, tsunamis, and dust storms– caused not by nature, but by alien creatures from another realm. The Stormkind.

Ava Reid tries not to think about that night, when she was caught in a hurricane and brought face to face with one of the Stormkind, the man with a dagger, and the agony she felt when he stabbed her with a crystal blade. Yet as she and the rest of Florida’s citizens begin to rebuild their lives, Ava can’t help but notice strange things happening around her. Things she seems to be causing. The gusts of wind and sudden floods attract the attentions of a mysterious stranger who leaves her clues, and the deadlier men following her.

It isn’t long before Ava is swept up into a wild conspiracy, led by a secret society that knows the truth about the Stormkind– and what their enemies have planned for the world she loves. If she wishes to protect her friends and her family, Ava must harness her strange new abilities and become part of the Stormkind society. Because if she loses control, there will be no force strong enough to stop her…

This is the first time I've done a Rafflecopter giveaway, so I'm excited to see how it will work. I'm also excited to see all the promotional posts coming in. There will be more snippets, more buy links, and more giveaways.

While I'm still a little sad that I can't introduce the Agents of Limbo world just yet, I'm stoked for my new projects and even more so for upcoming releases. Never let it be said that I won't have a back-up plan for hiccups in Writing Life.

Hope everyone has a great week! Cheers!

Sunday Snippet: “May I sit?”

Welcome again to Weekend Writing Warriors, the weekly blog tour where authors post 8-10 sentences from their work in progress/new or upcoming release. In last week's snippet from Storm Born, we got a taste of Ava's mindset after the trauma she suffered during the Centennial. She's ready to fall back into the routine of her job as a waitress, as some new trouble walks into her diner...

He was tall and muscular without being blocky. He stood like a warrior, his perfect blue eyes tracing over the tables like he thought they might attack. Thick black hair brushed the shoulders of his rugged leather motorcycle jacket. High cheekbones and sharp lips gave him a regal appearance. He looked like a prince trying to disguise himself as a biker.

I gotta say– the look suited him.

Mystery Man’s eyes stopped their assessment and locked on me. My heart skipped a beat once, then again when he gently smiled. The smile didn’t reach his eyes, but damn, was it ever sexy.

“May I sit?” he asked.

Yes, only 9 more days until my latest standalone novel is released. I've gotten early feedback from some reviewers and it's been overwhelmingly positive, which is definitely a confidence booster. The next couple weeks are going to be really exciting. Not only will be Storm Born released, but a bunch of my pre-ordered books will be making their way to my digital library, one of them being Water's Wrath, the fourth book in the Air Awakens series, which coincides with the cover reveal I did earlier this week for the final book! That was a really fun experience and I'm happy I did it.

But there's one other thing I'm overly happy about... Storm of the Gods, the first novel in my upcoming Greek mythology/urban fantasy series Areios Brothers, has its Beta readers! I'm going to send out the copies in the next couple days, and will hopefully get some easy, positive feedback. I've got not problem dumping more hours into editing for this project, but I'm sure every author wishes the first "final" draft was the only one they had to do.

I'm also going to finally be working on the plots for my other urban fantasy series, Agents of Limbo. I'm hoping to get lucky with one or both of those series, but if not, at least I can do simultaneous releases and keep a couple projects going at the same time. The more words, the better you do, right?

Anyway, I'm thrilled to finally have a three day weekend, even though I've got plans for each day and it will zoom by way too quickly. Which means I need to get back to work now. Be sure to stop by the other Weekend Writing Warriors blogs and leave the other authors some love. Until next time, cheers!

Weekly Recap
Got a lot more done than I expected last week! Yes, it was kind of exhausting, what with the thirty blogs I emailed and the dozens of new spotlights, including one on Who She Reads, and the official acceptance of Engineered Deceit, a short story that will be featured in Mocha Memoirs Press's upcoming steampunk horror anthology, Ghosts, Gears, and Grimoires, and will take place in between my Dark Sky prequel novellas, Amber Sky and Smoke Sky. Here's what else I managed to finish last week:

• Finish the plot lines and world building for Agents of Limbo series
• Edit Storm of the Gods and prepare to send it to Beta readers/publishers
• Find more spotlights for Storm Born and Damnation's Door

I'm going to buckle down over the next couple days to finish at least most of the edits for Storm of the Gods, since I really want to have that story prepared for a release next year, whenever that release will be, depending on what publishers say. If it stays in my hands, I'm thinking spring 2017. Yes, yes, I know that's way in advance, but April's almost over, and I like to be ahead of the game. So this is what I'm going to do this week:

• Finish the plot lines and world building for Agents of Limbo series
• Finish editing Storm of the Gods and prepare to send it to Beta readers/publishers

Yup, it's crunch time for me. Releases and reviews are coming up for Storm Born, which is also coming up on its release date! Remember, you can find more information on the novel, such as pre-order links, press releases, teasers, and chapter one here!

I'm thinking about starting a giveaway for Storm Born this week, since I have all this glorious swag that I need to give away!

Yes, things are coming together for this writer. I've got to take the time I can now to do the little things, since May is going to swamped for me. You folks have no idea. It's kind of terrifying. Oh well!

Hope everyone has a great start to their week. My weekend is just beginning!

Cheers!

Weekly Recap

I definitely count last week as a good week. Not only did I enjoy a wonderful birthday, I managed to complete a new book!:

• Finish new version of Storm of the Gods
• Finish the plot lines and world building for Agents of Limbo series
• Edit Storm of the Gods and prepare to send it to Beta readers/publishers
• Find more spotlights for Storm Born and Damnation's Door
• Eat birthday cake!

Granted, this means I have a lot more work to do, most of which includes editing. It won't be a slow week by any means:

• Finish the plot lines and world building for Agents of Limbo series
• Edit Storm of the Gods and prepare to send it to Beta readers/publishers
• Find more spotlights for Storm Born and Damnation's Door

I'm cutting it close with the spotlights, but hopefully I can snag a couple for my upcoming release dates.

As much as I want to focus on those releases, now that I've completed Storm of the Gods, the first novel in my upcoming Areios Brothers series, I'm tempted to simply continue with that. I've already begun working on the sequel, which will remain untitled since I don't know where it will end up– either (and hopefully) in the hands of a traditional publisher, or independently published by me next year (no, I don't have a release date yet, even I'm not that advanced).

I'd also like to complete the series plot line for Agents of Limbo, another urban fantasy series I'd like to send to publishers/release myself next year in between Areios Brothers novels, though I need to put some more thought into it. The series has changed since it's inception, and if I'm going to take the time to write and publish novels from both series' simultaneously, I want to make sure there are enough differences that they can't be mistaken for one another. I know the Areios Brothers world like the back of my hand, but Agents of Limbo will take a little more getting used to.

Also, next week, I'm going to be taking part in a cover reveal! I've never done this for another author before and am excited to see how it plays out. Plus, I'm a fan of this series and I admit that I want to be one of the first to see the cover before others. I love helping hard-working writers, and it will be exciting to offer this kind of support.

And that's all the news I have for now! It might not seem like it, but I've been dragging my feet a little this morning and need to get back to work. I have the full day to edit, plan, and write, and I want to take full advantage of that. So until Thursday, cheers!

Weekly Recap (And One Year Older)

Well, I didn't get either of my goals accomplished last week, but I came close! I was also part of a feature in an article on Bookworks talking about writing a series, and had an author spotlight on The Bookish Crypt. So here's what I got done:

• Complete new version of Storm of the Gods (only 2 more chapters to go!)

• Finish the plot lines and world building for Agents of Limbo series

This week I'm going to shoot for some higher goals:

• Finish new version of Storm of the Gods

• Finish the plot lines and world building for Agents of Limbo series

• Edit Storm of the Gods and prepare to send it to Beta readers/publishers

• Find more spotlights for Storm Born and Damnation's Door

• Eat birthday cake!

Yup, it's my birthday today! If I'm being honest, I didn't plan to write very much, but the idea of finishing Storm of the Gods and preparing it for publishers is awfully tempting, and it is what I love. Though I am going to give into temptation– skip my workout today (which I know I'll pay for tomorrow), read in bed/PJ's for a couple hours, and have a bath and watch the rest of The Walking Dead before Facebook wrecks the finale for me.

That's really all I have to share right now, so I hope everyone has a great Monday. I'm excited to relax for mine.
