The Rules of Magic - Alice Hoffman
The Rules of Magic: A Novel - Alice Hoffman

I wish I liked this story more than I actually did.
I mean, when Hyland died I cried like it was a family member. I was devastated. I think I'm still devastated.
That was probably the best part of the story though. The rest was good, but slow-paced and not what I wanted.
After Practical Magic I just thought it would be more magical.
The talent in the writing based on that one part has me wanting to read more from the author. I know she is a good writer. Just maybe the hype around this one pumped it up so much that I expected more.

ALL MY FRIENDS ARE SPIDERS by Alice Cussler
All My Friends Are Spiders - All about Spiders For Kids: Do Spiders Bite? What is Spiders Web? - Spiders Pictures and Spiders Facts (Kids Learning: Amazing Animals Books for Kids 4-8) - Alice Cussler

A book about the different kinds of spiders and what the do for humans.  I liked how there was a story to follow as I learned about the different types of spiders.  I learned a lot about them.  I never knew there were so many different types.  Each has their own look as well as their own living conditions.  I always thought they all spun webs like you see in corners of rooms but they don't.  I liked that photographs were shown.  This is perfect for your 4-8 year old as well as adults.

LITTLE BLUE TRUCK'S SPRINGTIME by Alice Schertle
Little Blue Truck's Springtime - Alice S... Little Blue Truck's Springtime - Alice Schertle,Jill McElmurry

Little Blue Truck drives through his country neighborhood checking out the barn areas to see who is there. There are goats, pigs, cows, ducks, chickens, and sheep. He meets them and finds out what is new with them.

This is an adorable books for infants and toddlers. There is rhyming and counting as well as learning how the animals look. I liked the pull open tabs to see the babies and count them. I also liked that this is a board book and the pages are thick so as a child pulls the doors open on each page it will be hard for them to rip the pages or book. Perfect for those little ones who like trucks and animals. Teaches without being preachy.

THE GHOST AND THE HAUNTED MANSION by Cleo Coyle (AKA Alice Kimberly)
The Ghost and the Haunted Mansion - Alice Kimberly

Pen and Jack must travel back to Jack's time to find what is similar about one of his old cases to the current murder of the owner of Todd Mansion. With Seymour a prime suspect in the murder, it is up to them to save him.

I enjoyed this story. I always enjoy when Pen goes back to Jack's time. I love the 1940's. As Jack pushes her to find the connection between their cases and pushes her to develop more of her detecting skills, it's fun to watch her grow both as a person and a PI. There is humor as everyone mistakenly believe something is going on between her and Seymour.

For as many cozy mysteries as I have read I would think I would get who it was but until the end of the story I had no idea. Guess I'll never be a detective.

Highly recommended.
His & Hers - Alice Feeney Wow, I have just finished this book, it was brilliant. Both the book and the narration had me progressively more and more glued to the story as I got increasingly involved in events. Anna is a news correspondent who has risen through the ranks of reporters to the job of reading the lunch time news bulletin on the BBC. It's job she loves and she puts her heart and soul into it, hiding away from a much less happy personal life. Her ex-husband, DCI Jack Harper, is called to investigate a murder in sleepy Blackdown and Anna becomes involved when her dream job unexpectedly goes back to its previous incumbent and Anna finds herself back as a reporter. The narrative follows the interactions between this estranged couple, while simultaneously twisting and turning around the mystery they are both trying to unravel. And twisting and turning it certainly does, until we end up suspecting everyone and no-one seems completely innocent.. As an audiobook we were treated to a male narrator, the wonderful Richard Armitage, to narrate Jack's voice, and Stephanie Racine, who did and excellent job as Anna. There is also a distorted voice representing the killer. All in all I highly recommend this book as an audio and I'm definitely going to go back and investigate the author's earlier work.
