Review: Storm Cursed (Mercy Thompson #11) by Patricia Briggs
Storm Cursed - Patricia Briggs

In this new instalment in the No. 1 New York Times bestselling series, Mercy Thompson must face a deadly enemy to defend all she loves . . .

My name is Mercedes Athena Thompson Hauptman, and I am a car mechanic.

And a coyote shapeshifter . . . And the mate of the Alpha of the Columbia Basin werewolf pack.

Even so, none of that would have gotten me into trouble if, a few months ago, I hadn't stood upon a bridge and taken responsibility for the safety of the citizens who lived in our territory. It seemed like the thing to do at the time. It should have only involved hunting down killer goblins, zombie goats, and an occasional troll. Instead, our home was viewed as neutral ground, a place where humans would feel safe to come and treat with the fae.

The reality is that nothing and no one is safe. As generals and politicians face off with the Gray Lords of the fae, a storm is coming and her name is Death.

But we are pack, and we have given our word. We will die to keep it.

*I received a free copy from the publisher via Netgalley and chose to leave a voluntary review. Thank you!*

It seemed like forever since the last Mercy book was released, so this was so needed.

I totally missed Mercy, Adam and the rest of the gang and go be honest I will be super sad once this series ends.

This like most her books start off with a bang and throws you right into action with Mercy and Co. I really enjoyed the new dynamic between her and the pack now that Adam finally put his foot down.  Though some members, make it clear the only reason they are “nice” to her is because of that. But you can also tell others really like her. I love how she handles it, like everything with a lot of humor.

One theme in this book was politics. Politics between the humans and all supernatural, some if it was important but some parts seemed to be dragged out a bit, especially when there were more pressing issues happening, like the witches and other things. There were quite a few things happening in this book and we get a few different things, from goblins to zombies and witches, and of course the pack and Mercy are right in the middle of everything.

We meet some new faces, but of course we also run into our friends, Zee and Tad, our allies and some no friends Vampires and the witches come out to play. Of course the Fay do as well in their own way of course.

We get a lot of Sherwood this book and learn a lot more about him and his past, we almost see him more than Adam, it felt like at times.  One thing I wanted more besides Adam, was a Mercy teamed up with Mary-Jo. I really hope we get more of that in to the future, I enjoyed that way too much.

Adam like I said we see but not as much as I would have liked, he was busy, a lot with the humans and the politics between humans and non-humans.

Overall this book was not my favorite with all the politics, it was slowed down a bit, or at least for me. But that being said I still really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to see what is in store next for Mercy and Co.

I rate it 4★

In a beautiful compound hidden away from the world, Emeline Sanchez tries to blunt the pain that has wracked her body ever since her terrifying ordeal in the labyrinth beneath the city—when she was forced to exchange blood with an evil master vampire.

Now, it’s his voice that haunts her...that calls to her in the dark...that never lets her rest. And while the children that she helped to free from his clutches struggle to heal, watched over by their Carpathian protectors, Emeline knows one thing: She must sacrifice herself to keep them all from harm.

Dark Legacy is actually book 31 of the Dark Series and continues where we left off from Dark Carousel with Emeline sacrificing herself to the big bad dark Drag for a relationship she isn't so thrilled to be in despite being a victim puts herself back in that place for her own good and the good of the others.

We continue the new mix up that the bad guys aren't really bad guys anymore and that the real bad guys are evil or assumed to be evil must be conquered through love which is brought in by the women who don't actually do a whole lot or serve much of a purpose other than to empower the men who don't really fight anymore.

There's a lot of old dogs learning new tricks, men waiting for their child brides to grow up so that they can mate with them and be whole, crazy cameos, and some ackward not so thrilling circumstances that put it all in motion. Whats the most obvious is that despite this series being so long in installments Feehan obviously doesn't plan on stopping any time soon. This book spends a lot of time building up connecting her worlds and expanding them for more future series and installments but over all it was an okay read.

Warning: Dark Legacy contains continued topics of forced sexual interactions/ rape / dominance of women and children.

When Drew Lawless discovers a fatal flaw in his plan to avenge his parents’ deaths, he turns to the one woman he'd promised he wouldn't touch. He offers her a deal, one that will bring her into his investigation, his life, and his bed.

Investigative reporter Shelby Gates never dreamed how twisted the case would become—or how fascinated she would be with Drew. Every day they spend together binds them. And every night brings her closer to realizing he might be the man for her.

As Drew's feelings for Shelby grow, so does the danger. From the streets of Dallas to Austin’s high-tech business world, Drew and Shelby play a game begun twenty years before—a game they will win, or die trying.

Alright so Revenge is the third book in the Lawless series if you haven't read the previous books I highly suggest you start at the beginning this isn't a journey you want to start without knowing where it all began.

The whole family involvement is heavy and complex so pay attention because details are important in Revenge.

Shelby and Drew were great together and I liked that Blake really tried to go out on this series with a major climax but in some ways it sort of went a little beyond which sort of crushed my belief in some of the things that came up... but when you're trying to make it go might as well go all out.

So hey, I give Blake props for that but it made me conflicted about how many stars I wanted to rate this book. I must confess I'm a little partial to the series and seeing as how I was wanting to know what the final reveal would be I uprated. Revenge is a great read.

Zoe Hart owns the coffee shop in one of the hottest upscale resorts in Florida, run by her childhood best friend, Dylan Jackson. Even though Dylan is a workaholic, he still finds time to enjoy the beautiful women who pass through his hotel all of them except Zoe. She has been in love with Dylan for years without him noticing.

But with her thirtieth birthday fast approaching, she realizes she can't keep pining away for a man who doesn't show the merest sign of romantic interest in her.
When Zoe launches her plan to shed her tomboy image in Dylan's eyes, she's thrilled once he starts to notice her in a whole new way.

But she'll have to face the risk that seducing her best friend might come with lasting changes to their longtime friendship...

O-kay, So I read Keeping it Hot three times and I'm still bouncing between rating it three and four stars trying to figure out how I really feel about it.

There are times I really love both Zoe and Dylan, and there were times Zoe annoyed the crap out of me and times when Dylan pissed me the hell off. Other times they redeemed themselves through the bond they shared in their friendship which I actually felt was better than their relationship after Zoe had to change everything about herself to win Dylan's heart.

I'm usually a fan of romances that have that right in front of you realization thing going on but circumstances that bring the h/h together and how its handled can vary on whether the book is a win or a lose for me.

This is where I had trouble because I didn't think Zoe should have had to go to such extremes to catch Dylan's more intimate attention however their romance was quite steamy once I got past all of that.

Still there was some turbulence in the back of my mind that Zoe's new look wasn't all quite her real self and should have been seen by Dylan if he really wanted her that way before all the change she made to herself.

Keeping it Hot is an entertaining read and the first book of the Breakfast in Bed series. If you haven't read it yet I recommend it.

A mother is dead, and now her killer hunts the child that witnessed the brutal crime...

Private Investigator Clay Maynard locates missing children for clients, but has nearly given up hope of finding his own daughter, cruelly stolen from him by his ex-wife twenty-three years ago.

Equine therapist Taylor Dawson has chosen to intern at Daphne Montgomery-Carter's stables so that she can observe the program's security director - her father, Clay Maynard. Trying to reconcile the wonderful man she's getting to know with the monster her mother always described, Taylor never expects to become the target of a real monster, the man who murdered the mother of the little girls she works with at the stable. Neither does she expect to fall for Ford Elkhart, Daphne's handsome son, who is dealing with his own demons. As family and friends gather for a wedding, Taylor starts to imagine a permanent life in Baltimore.

But not if the real monster gets to her first..

Monster in the Closet is a crazy intense book. Rose is amazing, the multiple character story lines and the journey she takes into the mind of Gage and his justification for what he does and who he becomes is seriously disturbing. I have to give Rose mad props for creeping me out the way she did in this book.

Poor Jaz was valiant and amazing and despite being broken by what she witnessed she managed to carry the more delicate emotions of the reader. I really liked getting to see the journey the cops took, the one Gage took and the journey of the victims in this book took.

There is so much going on and it really sucks you in right from the get go. Monster in the Closet is disturbing, its dark, its emotional and very well done. I have to give Rose credit for the places she must have had to go mentally when writing this book more than just a romantic suspense this book is a serious suspense write but it also pens a journey that tells how dark family relations can go when one of them goes scarily wrong.

If you haven't read these books before I highly suggest it!
