Sexy Yummy Firefighters!!

 

Controlled Burn is book two in the Boston Fire series by Shannon Stacey and narrated by Tatiana Sokolov. 

 

I relished this audiobook. It’s a sweet light-hearted romance with almost no drama. This novel worked for me on so many levels. It’s easy and fun, but I really liked was the mature romance in that our leads are in their late 30’s early 40’s. 

 

Jessica is a VP of Financial Services at her father’s company. She’s never meet her grandparents on her fathers side. For some reason her father cut them out of his life and hers. After receiving a call from her grandfathers doctor she decides to go meet them and help them out, but her plans and life soon change once she meets them and their tenant Rick.

 

Rick is our sexy firefighter and such a sweet man. He’s taken such good care of the Brussard’s that he’s pretty much family. The son they never had. He looks out for them and makes sure their property is taken care of. 

 

I adored Rick and Jessica. They are likable, relatable, realistic, kind and down to earth. You can tell at the beginning that they don’t trust each others motives, but as time moves along they see that both want what’s best for the elderly couple. 

 

As for the romance. It’s a nice sweet build up with lots of sexual tension, flirting, and stolen kisses. They both fight this attraction and they keep thinking how can this work when they live miles away.

 

The only complaint I have is the end. It just ends and left me with some question’s. 

 

Narration: Tatiana Sokolov did a superb job in her narration. All the voices where distinctive and she brought out the romance and realistic life of our characters.

 

Controlled Burn was a feel good romance. I can’t wait to listen on in the Boston Fire series.

Dallas Fire & Rescue: Burnout by Rachel Rivers is a phenomenal read.  Ms Rivers has delivered a well-written book.  She has crafted amazing, lovable character and combined them with a great story full of drama, suspense, action, humor and sizzle.  Mac and Abby's story is a fast paced read that will keep readers glued to their kindles.  This is a fairly short read, perfect for those with limited time for reading.  This is my second book by this author and I'm already a fan.  I loved this book and look forward to my next book by Rachel Rivers.  Burnout is book 1 of The Sithrah Series but can be read as a standalone.  This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

This was a fun romance. I loved the firefighting scenes (only wanted more of them) and the characters were enjoyable if not insufferable at times. I've been in an adult romance mood and this was perfect for it. Planning on reading more by this author in the future. 

Rick was captain of Boston Fire Ladder # 37. Rick’s guys worked well with the guys from Engine # 51. They all worked as a team. There was a lady whom had called emergency fir department four times in six months. Rick had to figure out a way to gently discourage her from calling and using the fire department to try to get a date It wasted time and and money, also one day she may actually manage to burn her house down. The Broussards - Joe and Marie and started out as landlords for Rick but now were like family .Jessica was the Broussards unknown granddaughter her father David had been motified from the hospital when Joe had gotten hurt and ended up in the hospital.. David had told Jessica to take care of the problem and did not even call the hospital back. David had made his parents out to be someone Jessica wouldn’t want to know. Jessica worked for her dad and decided to go down to where her grandparents were since the Doctor would give her no information as she was not on the emergency call form. Jessica had never met her grandparents because of what her father had told her. Davis had told his daughter that his parents were crass, alcoholic, and had bad tempers when Jessica had been eleven. Jessica is immediately attracted to Rick but she lives and works on the West coast while he is on the East coast. I didn’t love or hate this story. First the ending was a little quick. The romance between Rick and Jessica was a little slow to take off. This story just didn't click for me but others may enjoy it more as it is a sweet story and has a good plot.

Fills in Witches Square

This was a disappointing read. It started out so well, sucking me into the world building and liking the characters; it ended with a cliffhanger that left me feeling "meh". There were problems with consent, with a quasi-rape (vampire forces his fangs and drinks from heroine's pubic area) and a threat of sexual rape in the same scene. This is why I prefer my vampires being the dark, brooding villains rather than the sexed up beautiful corpses (with the exception of the Midnight Breed series).

I really like the heroine (of the book and the entire series) Jolie Wilkins. She is trying to make her psychic business into a success. Her BFF and employee, Christa, was an actual support for Jolie and vice versa. The hero, Rand Balfour, was mysterious but fun to get to know and the mission he hires Jolie and Christa for was entertaining.

Then came the party with the villainess, Bella, and Jolie's introduction to the paranormal world. The independent and smart Jolie, who does have self-esteem issues, becomes dependent on the protection of Rand and a target for all the different species to acquire for her witch abilities. The rest of the book is nothing more than Jolie's middle school emotional rollercoaster and sexual awakening while she and Rand try to build a coalition army to fight Bella and her army. Jolie becomes a whiny, TSTL character; Christa is a card board cut out of a "friend". Rand keeps trying to get through to Jolie to be more careful and cautious, as this world is far different from the human world; she is too impulsive and needs constant rescuing, despite being such a powerful witch and the living fulfillment of a prophecy.

Bottom line - so much potential for a great fantasy series cut down by lack of editing and emphasis on horny, ditsy heroine.
