CARAVAL BY: STEPHANIE GARBER
Caraval - Stephanie Garber

I'm torn on my feelings about this book. The world was magical and exciting (for the most part), very vivid and easy to get swept up in. But the characters kinda fell a little flat for me. I still have some hope that Lengend seems rather complex. I am left feeling a bit like in this 3D world Garber created though most of the characters came through 2D. I'm curious to see what happens in the next book. I have a feeling that it could make or break the Trilogy for me.

Tricked into reading a romance
Caraval - Stephanie Garber

I feel as though I was tricked into reading a romance, and not a particularly well written romance at that. From the blurb I anticipated a strange and twisted fantasy with plenty of mystery and while there are elements of this, the focus of the story is an uninteresting and trope filled romance. There is one aspect of the book I love and it saved it for me. Scarlett experiences emotions as colours and the description Garber uses to explain this is extremely effective. A friend of mine has synthesthesia, which is exactly this condition, and so this part of the book resonated strongly with me and almost allowed me to forgive the romance. If you enjoy romance I’m sure you’ll get much more from this read than I did.

Caraval - Stephanie Garber

SPOILER ALERT: No one really dies in the game that Scarlett, does my love for her count though?

I have finally finished Caraval! It took me such a long time but I wanted to give it a chance. The first 200 pages were so boring that I nearly put the book down but being the person I am, I decided that I wasn't going to be that person. The last couple of pages held the most action in my eyes though.

Like yeah Donatella Goes missing as part of the game but that wasn't a big deal to me. I thought Dante was cool though. I like the idea of him and was actually sad when he 'died'. Julian ended up being annoying and I just wanted him to leave in the end. Scarlett was complained too much throughout the book.

Overall: I have read worse books so this book wasn't horrible but just boring and could of had more action in some parts.

The author did explain things really nicely though!

Rating: 3.5/5 STARS.

A little update on my reading experience.
Caraval - Stephanie Garber

For those that follow, you'll know that I'm currently reading a book called Caraval by Stephanie Garber.

Now that I'm nearly finished this book it is safe to say that it was quite interesting but it isn't a book I would pick up to read again. I felt like this was a book I had to read because I got it through Owlcrate. If I didn't get it through Owlcrate then I probably wouldn't have read it. (Sorry to those people that might get insulted by this post lol).

Caraval - Stephanie Garber

I started this book this morning thinking it was something else. That something else was supposed to be The Night Circus. I have no idea why I confused the two but after listening to over an hour of this book I realized it is not meant for the likes of me.

I'm sure sisters Scarlett & Tella have all sorts of glorious and lovely adventures and perhaps some insta-love with a handsome stranger or two after they escape their super evil daddy but I'm not in the mood for this sort of book and will likely delete it from my Ipod to make room for something that will suit my grouchiness better. Young love and overblown writing no longer do it for me.
