Review: Champagne Kisses
Champagne Kisses - Lynda Aicher

This was deliciously sexy.

Evan and Richard are attracted to each other, they finally give in, they have seeeeeeeeeeeeeeex (40 pages of sex), and when it’s time to end their one night stand, Richard is not willing to let Evan go.

Hot, sizzling sexy times. With feelings. It was wonderful.

Voices matter...
Champagne Kisses - Lynda Aicher 'Champagne Kisses' has the dubious distinction of being my 10th audiobook, however, I want to talk about the story before getting into the audio part of things. As an event planner, Evan knows his stuff and he's sure that the Christmas Eve wedding he's been planning for the past month is going to make his career. That is until the vases start flying and one connects with the head of one of the grooms sending him off to the hospital and making the wedding simply off. It takes some quick thinking on Evan's part to salvage things and the Christmas Eve Wedding becomes a Christmas Eve party. Evan is not only gay he's out and proud, he even describes himself as being 'fem and swishy'. He's also attractive and confident traits which haven't escaped the notice of Richard, brother to one of the grooms or soon to be ex-grooms. Richard's not really in the closet...more like standing in the entrance. Richard's also hot and Evan totally acknowledges this and he's sure he's not going to push any hot buttons for the man. But apparently Evan also turns Richard into a babbling fool. It's amid the personal turmoil of fighting with Evan and his own personal preconceptions and biases that Richard makes the first move on Evan and things quickly crash when Richard's filters fail him and thoughts best left in his brain fall out of his mouth, sadly this seems to happen a lot when Richard's around Evan. Needless to say these two finally get together and decided to take advantage of the honeymoon suite that's now going unused. While I enjoyed the first part of the story which was cute and entertaining it was when Richard stepped up to the plate and decided to go after what he wants, which of course is Evan, that I started to really get into the story. These two men worked together as a couple, yes there was stereo typing...macho Richard is toppy. Swishy, fem Evan of course is a bottom and more important than the usual or the unusual for me is a story that's believable and gives me the connection between the characters that I enjoy and this one delivered. For a good part of this story Richard wasn't always shown in a favorable light and we got to see Evan as charming, confident and comfortable with his sexuality so the ending worked for me because things took a little bit of a change when it was Evan who decided that he needed to do the mature thing...not... and run away. Luckily he couldn't run far because he had to wrap business up at the hotel and Richard stepped up and went after what he wanted...Evan. I also really liked the epilogue which gave a peek into the life of Evan and Richard nearly a year later. So for me the story was a solid 3.5 possibly 4 stars. It was the audio portion that I had problems with and as I said it was definitely a learning experience for me. The first thing that I learned was listen to the sample before accepting an audio book because than you'll at least have a clue as to whether or not you're going to enjoy the narrator. But having said this I also discovered that since it's only a sample you may not hear the part that eventually becomes your issue. So why was the audio portion a bit of a fail for me well...it's about Richard...or more accurately his voice and please keep in mind that this really is a very subjective issue, but in my mind Richard's voice was deeper more baritone...more macho if you will. While Evan's voice worked perfectly for me and sounded essentially how I expected it would. While Evan's voice and Richard's voice were different there were times...especially when they were in the honeymoon suite that the differences were marginal and I found it a bit disconcerting to distinguish who was speaking and who was doing what to who. I admit it at one point I reverted to being a 12 year old and just had a good giggle...what can I say, I'm easily entertained. I even went so far as to listen to this twice just to see if it was the mood I was in when I was listened to the story the first time, but no I gave it my full attention the second time and you guessed it more giggling ensued. As well as my issue with Richard's voice was the fact that the voice that was used for the narrative parts of the story...parts where people were thinking and no one was really speaking for me needs to be something more neutral unless I'm wandering around in someone's brain, like say Richard, and hearing their thoughts then I need that voice to either be Richard's voice or at worst something very neutral not something that's puts me into another character's headspace. Simply put if it's Richard thinking he needs to do it in his voice or a neutral voice but not Evan's or something close enough that it might as well be Evan. For these reasons the audiobook only gets a very subjective 2.5 stars from me. ******************** An Audiobook ARC was received courtesy of the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Champagne Kisses
Champagne Kisses - Lynda Aicher Sex. That was a majority of this book. And we were only provided with one night. One sexy, sensual, erotic night. It was very hot. But I really would have loved to see the mentioned 4 weeks leading up to this one night. Because these two guys knew each other for a month and apparently there was some hidden sexual tension there between them. So when they finally caved, it was explosive. And part of what made it so good was that it was intimate; they connected emotionally not just physically. It lacked the distance of a one-night stand.

I found the actually plot to be lacking though. I would have liked this to be longer with more backstory of both characters. Again, more of the chaotic 4 weeks leading up to this night so that we could see some of the acquaintance-ness, some of the tension buildup between Evan and Richard.

Kiss me again
Champagne Kisses - Lynda Aicher

Richard and Evan meet while Evan is planning Richard's brother's wedding.   The attraction is strong on both sides.  Evan assumes Richard is straight and so he figures there is no chance for them.

Evan is in shock when the Christmas Eve wedding he has gone all out for is called off.  Richard, brother to one of the grooms, suddenly kisses Evan and changes his perspective.  They talk and learn they have little in common.

Richard is feeling like this could be more than what they are making it out to be.  Evan is trying to push him away and he wants to know why.  Together, they are explosive.

Such a sweet and quick read.  I love the teasing and the sexy times are just HOT!  Makes a great gift too!  I give this book a 4/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

My Christmas pussy is not amused...*blink blink*
Champagne Kisses - Lynda Aicher
THREE HEARTS--Ho, ho, ho hum.

This barely made it to three hearts for me. Barely. It's not kinky. It's vanilla with an extra shot of vanilla bean sprinkled with sweet Christmas jizz and champagne kisses. Nothing wrong with it but I thought I was getting something along the lines of D/s. Not regular slap and tickle. I actually fell asleep during the long sex scene. I'm yawning now just thinking about it.

Let me back up before I get to my gripes. Because technically, the story follows a recipe that is standard in romance. It's tried and true:

Person A and B don't like each other for whatever reason. But secretly (or not as secretly) they lust after one another. Person A is an alpha and is outwardly a jerk but the author gives reason(s) why the reader needs to like them, so Person B can accept Person A's penis inside without much fuss. And the reader can get on with their daily life because penis hugs are the stuff of magic.

Bingo, bango, bajango! You can flip it up or down, spice it, sweeten, whatever, the method has been tested and it sells.

This recipe aka Champagne Kisses is vanilla champagne Christmas spunk flavored.

Evan happens to be Person B in the scenario. He is a flamboyant openly homosexual man who is doing great things for himself with his event planning business. Except the Christmas Eve wedding he planned has gone off the rails, due to a mega cat fight between the grooms.

Duh-dun-dun!! Enter person A, one of the cat fighting groom's brother, Richard. Richard is a conservative businessman who doesn't do "femmes" or public displays. So the cat-fight meltdown is a scene from his personal hell. Richard wasn't much of a character to me. I guess if you're not looking for much depth, he's alright. I didn't see the appeal. Erm...he was nice to his mother and brother. His kisses take forever and he can fuck. *shrug* But remember...I was bored. I'd rate him a 2-2.5 out of 5. Nothing to write home about but Evan seemed into it.

And I'm not familiar with this author's style though it reads reminiscent of MF erotica I've read in the past. (In fact, I think I'd have like this better if it was hetero erotica more because maybe Richard wouldn't make those jerkwad comments to Evan.) But Richard...redeemed himself in the Jizzmas spirit, yadda, yadda, yadda sex in a mirror, he feels alpha protective for the smaller 'weaker' man.

Let's get the other third of the story shall we? Because the story basically covers just the night. The relationship building prior to the fateful night happens off page, the reader gets hints from Evan and Richard's account interspersed between the pretty words. The words were a degree or two below purple. So maybe violet or lilac? Sometimes it dragged the scene down for me, to be honest, and it wasn't like there was much there to start with.

But I thought based on the publisher that maybe the truck might be driven through Pound Town. At least the fuckhot part of town. *shakes head* Or maybe a little kink might be found, something hot? But it was tame for me. And I don't mind vanilla either but it didn't bring anything new, exciting or memorable to the table.

The pretty words came to ruin any semblance of erotic for me when "channel" came to play.

"Channel" to describe ass.

"Channel": still being used in 2015.

Unless we're talking television...why? A dreaded "c" word of mine. I have three of them that make me cringe when reading romance: channel, canal and chute.

I thought maybe it'd get better...but then another dreaded c made an appearance: canal.

In the year two thousand and fifteen...still!

I could hear the slow sinking of the Jizzmas ship once canal came to join channel in anal descriptors. I'm not going to discuss why channel and canal during sex isn't hot because unless it's some part of role play where maybe there's a pantless gondolier or boat driver involved...I just can't.

Maybe you can, but me?

No.

So it ends in a HEA and champagne kisses and a sweet epilogue. It wasn't bad. But it wasn't anything to put on my Jizzmas list. I thought there was going to be something worth a blip maybe during that extended sex scene when the champagne bottle came out in the bedroom but nope, just standard sexy times play.

I liked the epilogue? *tilts head* Yeah, great use of one. So, I bumped up my rating to a three.

Hey, despite being Santa jizz and not being really impressed with the relationship, the recipe worked.(Okay...I'm still leery of Richard. I don't think redeemed himself enough. But that's me.)

Might work best for fans of the recipe and vanilla with a side of vanilla bean Santa semen sugar.

Can my Christmas pussy frown turn upside down?

The hunt continues... (I'm not searching too hard)
