Blow Me Away (Mile High Matched #2) by Christina Hovland
Blow Me Away (Mile High Matched #2) - Christina Hovland

First impressions are everything when it comes to business, but what about when it comes to matters of the heart? Blow Me Away pushes all the right buttons to brighten any day. Hovland spices up the bookshelf by appealing to the heart. Jase and Heather turn a relationship of convenience into a humorous meeting of the heart. Awesome.

Vox - Christina Dalcher

Something like 2.5 stars, as I'm on the fence with this one. It has powerful messages, including a reminder that often, all it takes for evil to win is for good people to do nothing. Not that you always have that much of a choice (I've spent all my voting life picking the lesser evil candidate for president in my country, because there's just no 'good' candidate at all), but nvm. And while these messages are delivered in a not-so-subtle way, well, at least that makes them easy to see and to contemplate. The book is also a fast and easy read, with short chapters, and the first 100 pages are quite anger-eliciting, which is good in a book IMHO regardless of its other flaws—when the book leaves me indifferent, that's when I have a problem.

The issues I had with "Vox" were more of the literary kind. For starters, the characters weren't so likeable. Some are definitely not meant to be, of course, and that was not the issue; but for a story where women should be the ones reclaiming power, Jean relies so much on the men around her, including at the end, and that was disappointing. Plot-wise, the scientific premise demanded too much suspension of disbelief (one week to develop a medication, that kind of thing), and the ending was very rushed, which weakened the story for me.

In spite of my rating, though, it is a story worth reading for its message.

The Night Olivia Fell
The Night Olivia Fell - Christina McDonald
Abi got the call that most mothers would dread. It had come from the hospital, informing her that her daughter Olivia, had been in an accident. Rushed into surgery, Abi discovers that her daughter will never wake up from the surgery. This accident has caused permanent brain damage. Olivia’s body will be dependent forever upon tubes and machines to keep it alive.
Abi wants to know who did this to her daughter. Someone had to push her daughter and cause her to fall, but who? Abi recalls that Olivia had not been acting like herself lately but Abi hadn’t stopped to ask her daughter any questions. Abi mentions allowing Olivia to be organ donor but that is denied when the doctor explains that he discovered that Olivia is pregnant.
So, who did it and why? The answer isn’t easy. As Abi begins to investigate, she discovers that Olivia was doing some investigating of her own before this incident. Olivia had discovered a secret that Abi had been keeping from her and Olivia had been making great strides in her investigation. Forced now to confront her past, Abi’s journey to find the truth behind what happened to her daughter just got complicated.
I received a copy of this novel from NetGalley and Gallery Books in exchange for an honest review.

New-to-Me Author

With Narration Performed by K.C. Sheridan

๏ ๏ ๏  My Thoughts ๏ ๏ ๏

Set against a New York City backdrop, and immersed in the theatre of performing arts, this sweetly endearing story is just the type of book to delve into when you've been reading a lot of weighty type stories.  With just the right amount of funny added to an engaging romance and easily likable characters.   Is it the type of book you'll remember forever?  Possibly not...but that doesn't mean it isn't a worthwhile read/listen.  The narration was excellently performed by K.C. Sheridan.
