City of Ashes - Cassandra Clare

This is the second book in the Mortal Instruments series. I found the first book to be not so great, but not the worst. This book I really hated much more. I despised the romantic relationships/interests of the main characters Clary and Jace. I didn't really like the way one character becoming a vampire was handled. I love Alec in the television show but dislike him here. I still don't find Jace to be a likable character in either the first or second book. The biggest reason I didn't like this book was that the author dragged everything out so slowly and unnecessarily that I was bored much of the time. The only things I still liked were the characters of Raphael and Magnus and the supernatural world created in the books.

City of Ashes - Cassandra Clare

For some reason, I'd completely forgotten that I was reading this book. Out of guilt, I then decided to give it priority and finish it immediately. It was a quick read and the number of obligatory eye rolls was not as high as I initially assumed.

I'm not completely sold on this series yet though. The characters are just so, I don't know how to explain, but I can't say I like them. Even when in they are in trouble, I can't say I feel for them. They are all so 'special', and even the only one of the main characters who is mundane doesn't end the book that way. (I have heard he's to play an important role in the later stories).

Voldemort, ehm Valentine of course, is causing a lot of trouble, but it mainly is some angst and family issues in City of Ashes. Hope that the next book will be a bit more than just some easy reading...
