Review: Exit Strategy by Shirlee McCoy
Exit Strategy (Mission: Rescue) - Shirlee McCoy

Title: Exit Strategy
Author: Shirlee McCoy
Series: Mission: Rescue, 3
Format: ebook
Length: 434 pages (iPhone)
Rating: 3 stars
Trigger warning: religious cults

Synopsis:
THE WIDOW'S PROTECTOR
Lark Porter thinks she'll find answers about her husband's death when she returns to their former home, but someone doesn't like the questions she's asking. She's quickly taken captive, and all that stands between her and certain death is a mysterious stranger telling her to trust him if she wants to get out alive. Hostage Rescue and Extraction Team member Cyrus Mitchell marvels at Lark's strength and determination to survive. The closer they get to freedom, the more dangerous the situation becomes. Once free, though, it takes all the skills and training Cyrus has to outmaneuver the deadly killers on their trail.

Favourite character: Boone (for this series, always Boone)
Least favourite character: N/A

Mini-review:
So this was fun. I mentioned this before but I'm not a fan of reading about cults, so that was hard to get past, especially because it's the majority of the book. We got to know so much about Lark, but nothing about Cyrus. At the beginning we hear a bit about a mission gone wrong and how he wants to prove that he still has it or something like that, but then after we find out what the girl's name was, nothing about his past, personality or back story is ever mentioned again, which I didn't appreciate.

Fan Cast:

Lark Porter - Tiya Sircar
Cyrus Mitchell - Sebastian Stan

Awesome Contemporary Romance
Oscar - S.J. McCoy

Oscar is a fabulous contemporary romance by SJ McCoy.  Ms. McCoy has given readers a book that is well-written and a smooth read.  She has assembled a cast of characters that is stellar and my favorite part of the book.  Grace works for an accountant and is a sometimes waitress.  The rest of her hours she spends running the community center that helps latchkey kids, single moms, homeless and vets.  Oscar is rich and bored, his newest venture, a bar, is no longer a challenge so he buys a building to open a new one.  The problem is, the building he buys is the community center's home.  Oscar and Grace's story is full of drama, humor and sizzle.  I enjoyed reading Oscar and look forward to reading more from SJ McCoy in the future.  Oscar is book 1 of The Davenport's Series but can be read as a standalone.  This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

Safely Endangered
Safely Endangered - Chris McCoy

Safely Endangered was a lot of fun! I wasn't really familiar with the webcomic, but after reading the book I'm sure I've seen some before. The comics were light and observant, and there was just the right mix to keep it fresh all through the book. Nice to see the references to many books/movies/games.

Enjoyed it a lot.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

REVIEW BY PAULA - Blood Rebirth (Divine) by Stevie McCoy
Blood Rebirth (Divine) - Stevie McCoy,S.M. McCoy

A Blood War prophesy. A darkness growing inside her. Can she find the seven powers before the trial grounds are lost forever?

The Oracle’s powers need a new vessel and everyone wants the talisman that will give it to them instead of the prophesied successor. In a race against time, Crystal must train herself to survive the trial grounds deep within the Underrealm and find the seven powers to obtain the talisman before anyone else; or it won’t be just her soul at risk, but the whole supernatural realm as she knew it.

The war between good and evil rests in the hands of a novice all while she battles her inner demons confused between following her heart or her mind, saving herself or everyone else.

If you like hidden magical realms, fresh new takes on vampire lore, and heartfelt journeys of self-discovery, then you’ll love Stevie McCoy’s spellbinding coming-of-age tale.
