EMILY AND EINSTEIN by LINDA FRANCIS LEE
Emily and Einstein - Linda Francis Lee

Audiobook

3-1/2 out of 5 stars. Cute and kind of sad book. I have a little barker who single barks "Let me in!", "Pick me up!", "I want some!", etc. He's so demanding it cracks me up. So Einstein's little exclamations and Emily understanding them was believable to me.

The "old man" part I didn't understand. The quitting and not accepting paying jobs in New York for a career as a writer I didn't understand. She's not Nora Roberts and she's just starting out. That wasn't responsible especially living in the Dakota. And the marathon race didn't seem very pivotal to me even as much as the author was trying to portray it as such. Those are the reasons for my lower rating.

ON TURPENTINE LANE by ELINOR LIPMAN
On Turpentine Lane - Elinor Lipman

What a sweet, funny book! There were several times I would read a phrase and think, "I need to write that down and pretend I just made it up." I just loved this book. There's a murder mystery that's only a slight mystery. The love story was great. Even the fights with the ex's were written with humor and kindness. Fantastic book! I'd recommend it to anyone who loves contemporary romance written with humor. I'm planning on reading more by this author.

IMPRUDENCE by GAIL CARRIGER
Imprudence - Gail Carriger

Audiobook I liked everything about this book but the ending. The author's book are cliffhanger-ish but this was a HEA (happy ever after) with the journey being extended. Is one of her fathers going to pay for all of this gallivanting? What about her cousin? Are the bad guys going to give up going after her? If not, then why put everybody at risk? Too many questions left unanswered. HOWEVER, that won't stop me from reading the rest of the series. 4 out of 5 stars.

PROMISED LAND by CONNIE WILLIS & CYNTHIA FELICE
Promised Land - Connie Willis,Cynthia Felice

Gosh, I really wanted to like this book more than I did. It pretty much is a story of a spoiled girl who falls for the farmer. There's some small space travel thrown in to make it sci-fi but it's pretty much a western romance. I kept waiting for this book to just grab me but it didn't - just kind of lightly patted me on the shoulder. Disappointed.

HEARTBURN by NORA EPHRON
Heartburn - Nora Ephron,Meryl Streep

Audiobook

First off, Meryl Streep's narration was fantastic. She also starred in the movie but I don't know if this was before or after narrating the book. The movie almost exactly mirrored the book except for the Key Lime Pie scene which was all internal dialogue in the book and was spoken in the movie (I liked that she said it all out loud so I'm siding with the movie on this). Some parts had me tearing up on the train - it's so hard when you love someone and they don't love you anymore no matter what you do and you can't stop remembering the times when they did love you. I'm going to listen to more of Nora Ephron's books. I read a 197? New Yorker review of this book which said she added stories to this fiction book that she had already written about as actual events. I don't care. Both the movie and the audiobook were wonderful! 5 out of 5 stars.
