Star Wars The Clone Wars: Stories of Light and Dark

Review by: Bluninja29

Opening Thoughts:

Star Wars The Clone Wars: Stories of Light and Dark is a collection of stories based off the TV show Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2003 TV series.) It has 11 Short Stories all based off episodes from the TV show. with more view points that we didn't get to see in the show. One of the Short stories im are gonna look at is about Count Dooku.

Story:

Count Dooku was surprised attacked by the Republic.

Presentation:

I do like how these are in the characters point of view like Count Dooku. I also like how all the stories are based off the show. What I didn't like is how these are short stories, but it is a nitpick so I won't get crazy over it. I honestly liked this book.

If you are a star wars nerd or want to give your kid a star wars book to read. then this is the book for you!

4/5

Star Wars: A Long Time Ago..., Book 2: Dark Encounters
Star Wars: A Long Time Ago..., Book 2: Dark Encounters - Star Wars Authors,Terry Austin,Carmine Infantino I remember reading these as comics when I was younger. Marvel had first done a serialisation of A New Hope, then carried on adding their own adventures for the series. This collection ends at the point where Empire Strikes Back was coming out and they were due to start the comics for that.

This book introduces some new baddies in the form of the Tagge family/business as well as Darth Vader and Jabba the Hut (one "t").
This was at a stage where Jabba hadn't been defined as a character by George Lucas, so the Marvel team made him a yellow furry humanoid.

Luke still has the hots for Leia at this point, and him and Han are always trying to impress her.

Most of the artwork is really crisp and bright (drawn by Carmine Infantino & Bob Wiacek) - one story illustrated by Mike Vosburg seems to detract from the rest of this collection.

Overall, a good dose of nostalgia for people who read these originally, and an interesting look at Marvel's take on expanding the universe.

Dark Disciple: Star Wars - Christie Golden,Marc Thompson

My critical response to this story is: goddamit neophyte sith make illogical and stupid decisions.  Ventris' sacrifice is a bit too close to girl-in-a-refridgerator for me.  And Yoda foresaw at least partial outcomes and knew Ventris needed to go with Voss.. which leads me to suspect he knew she'd die.  That's cold, man.

Overall response: I liked this story (hence the rating).  I liked that it didn't deal with absolutes, even in terms of the dark side.  The character voices are superb, though some of the narration could have done with a little less 'action' infection.

Star Wars Dark Empire II (Audiobook - Full Cast)
Star Wars: Dark Empire II (Dramatized) - Tom Veitch,Cam Kennedy, full cast,a division of Recorded Books HighBridge

My review of the first book in this series.

Spoilers for the first book!

While Dark Empire can be read by itself, its sequel merely points the way to the last book in the trilogy. That's not to say it's not a fun story, it is. It simply is not as finished as one would wish.

With the death of the Emperor and his clones, Luke sets out to start the Jedi anew. With the help of Kam Solusar, a dark Jedi who had served the Emperor before being saved by Luke, they fine a Force sensitive people on a planet where a Jedi came to rest and one joins them. They are soon pulled back into the troubles of the galaxy as New Alderaan as well as Han and Leia's children are threatened by an evil not as vanquished as they thought.

As it has the same cast, sound effects, and music, this dramatization does the first credit. The story is very engaging though I occasionally found Luke's "Jedi mentor" lessons somewhat dull!

The Empire (what's left of it) is very interesting and at times I wanted the focus to stay on them as they plotted and planned.

All around, it was good but most pushed me to read the original graphic novel.
