"American Demon Hunters: Sacrifice", by J. Thorne
American Demon Hunters: Sacrifice - Zach Bohannon,J. Thorn,Lindsay Buroker,J.F. Penn

With the collaboration of Zach Bohannon, Lindsay Buroker and J.F. Penn

If you are a fan of horror, dark fantasy, mystery or paranormal suspense and love a plot that is fairly simple to grasp you will be pleased with this novella. It is quite an adventure taking us into a make believe world through 134 pages of chilling horror.

The authors meshed beautifully their part each taking the role of a character and blending their story into an eerie tale of demons, portals and gateways. Sonya (Thorn), Blake(Bohannon), Aiko( Buroker), Sebastian (Penn) board an Amtrak train from Chicago to New Orleans for 19 hours that will change their lives.

The train is the backdrop and where all the spooky action takes place. Demons escapes, body count rises and some will have to pay the ultimate sacrifice. The plot is definitely creative with no shortage of descriptive scenes: blood and guts, humans versus demons….ouf… this was one exhausting quick read.

I admit this is not my favourite kind of book although for a good part of the book I was deep into it till the action started to be too creepy for my taste. I lost a bit of interest yet I still stayed captivated till the end. I would say this is imagination at its best (or worse): so scary, so out of this world and definitely unbelievable ….. Thank goodness “Sacrifice” is a fantasy….

I received a review copy of this book from J.F. Penn

Evan had a rough time at the beginning but both his and Brooke's stories have reeled me in.

Love a strong heroine!
Deception (Demon Hunters) - A.S. Feniche... Deception (Demon Hunters) - A.S. Fenichel

I received this book for an honest review. Lillian is a strong heroine. She is a great warrior and all acknowledge her skills. Her biggest weakness is her desire to keep from hurting the reputations of others. From the get go, Dorian knew what he wanted and that was Lillian. Despite all of her roadblocks, some of which caused him to think twice, Dorian worked his positive attitude and slowly broke through. This was a wonderful story, and I look forward to reading more of this series.

Deception by A.S. Fenichel
Deception (Demon Hunters) - A.S. Feniche... Deception (Demon Hunters) - A.S. Fenichel

I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

Regency paranormals are relatively new to me... I think I've read one or two others and I have to say- I really enjoy the genre. Regency London and paranormal just seem to mesh so well. Deception had a nice mix of an intriguing plot with enjoyable characters in a fast-paced read.

I loved Lillian. Plain and simple- she rocked. She was comfortable in her own skin, in her choices. Sure she was one tough cookie when it came to fighting demons, but she also had a softer side she was not afraid to display. Her kindness to people of all walks of life was refreshing. Lillian knew she was tough and didn't feel the need to prove it constantly.

It was rather hard not to fall for Dorian. He always seemed to say just the right thing at just the right time- sometimes to the point of being too good to be true. Sweet, strong, intelligent, and kind- he encompassed them all. The way he worshiped Lillian was rather adorable.

The plot was fast-paced and interesting. I always like being included in the research as well as the fighting and action sequences, so I enjoyed following along with the characters as they investigated. I never quite felt the romance between Lillian and Dorian. It was apparent in their words and actions, but the banter and the dance got old quicker than I'd have liked. It was strange- I mean I really liked the characters as individuals but together they ended up annoying me sometimes. This story had an ending of sorts. The author wrapped up the current story line while leaving room open for more to come.

You may notice that Deception is a book two in a series. I didn't read book one first, and I don't think it affected my enjoyment. Of course, I'm going to read book one now because Gabriel and Belinda seem like interesting characters.

Hunters - A new book by Aoife Sheridan
Hunters (Demon Series Part One) - Aoife Marie Sheridan

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Abigail is a 19 year old demon hunter. Her life until she was 11 had been pretty brutal. She was taken in my Father Peter, a priest who taught her all about demons, after her parents and brother died.

I'm a fan of the author, having read the first two installments in Sheridan's Saskia trilogy so I was really excited when I had the chance to review this book.

Hunters shocked me, it's so much darker than The Saskia trilogy. As I began to read, one thing really stood out for me. Abigail has a huge drinking problem. Every time I read (something along the lines of) I need a drink or I need another drink, I got really annoyed. Abigail spent 3/4 of this book trying to get drink, drinking or dealing with a hangover.

Abigail is a mess, this is evident from the start. She doesn't believe in herself and nobody else seems to either. The more I read, the more I understood why she had turned to drink, but I kept waiting and waiting for her to get a grip and overcome her problem or for someone else to actually offer her help instead of commanding her to stop.

Apart from all that, I really did enjoy the book, something was always happening, but for the first half of the book I couldn't see where it was leading. There were so many elements but I couldn't figure out the link regardless of how much I racked my brain.

This book is well written but there are some parts that outshine the rest, like when Sheridan describes Abigail taking her phone out of her pocket in the freezing cold. It was that well written that I could almost feel it myself!!!!!

There are parts in this book where Abigail shines, give the girl an argument and she wins hands down. She's wonderfully adept at winding people up (sometimes too much).

Even though I couldn't really make sense of where this book was heading until about half way through, by 86% i was rewarded. SOO DID NOT SEE THAT ONE COMING!!!!!

Then it all kicked off.... Then it was over....

And I was like.... BUT WHAT HAPPENS NEXT??????

A very good book, a little hard to read at times, but well worth it.
