Future Fake Husband by Kate Hawthorne and E.M. Denning Review
Future Fake Husband - Kate Hawthorne,E.M. Denning

Cole Mallory is on the brink of losing everything.

For the past seven years, Cole has dedicated himself to managing Mallory Vineyard, the winery his family owns. It’s not that he hasn’t had time for a relationship so much as he’s never found anyone he wanted to devote time to beyond the initial getting to know you stage. But that all needs to change--and fast--because if Cole wants to inherit the vineyard, he needs to be married.

Rhett Kingston is about to have a new life dropped into his lap.

What started out as a night of lonely drinking in a local bar ends with Rhett agreeing to "fake marry" his twin brother’s best friend. Rhett will act as the perfect future fake husband for Cole and, in turn, Cole will help Rhett launch the event planning business he’s always dreamed of owning.

Before they know it, their totally fake relationship is tangled up with completely mutual desire. After a destination wedding forces Cole and Rhett into the same bed, sparks fly and fictional feelings escalate and threaten to turn into something very, very real and more than either of them bargained for.

Review

A enjoyable but largely forgettable pretend relationship romance. I liked the heroes a good bit but didn't care much for the side characters.

It was a pleasant read.

A magic version of Sherlock Holmes
Warlock Holmes - A Study in Brimstone - G.L. Denning

In the vein of some of the re-writings of Sherlock Holmes this is Sherlock as a bit of an idiot, saved by the cleverness of Dr Watson.  This is a set of stories, rather than just one, detailing Watson's introduction to the world that Holmes inhabits (and honestly it's done better in the Lord Darcy series).  There's a vampire, Inspector Vladislav Lestrange and an Ogre and a variety of other characters that I neither cared about or really remember.

It's not terrible but I have absolutely no inclination to read further in this series, it wasn't enough of any of my catnip to really interest and too much of a parody to make me happy with it.  It occasionally came across as trying too hard.

The reader, Robert Garson, did quite a good job of reading it.

Real
Future Fake Husband - Kate Hawthorne,E.M. Denning

Cole is running out of time.  His mother lets him in on the secret that his grandparents are giving the vineyard he runs to his vapid sister after she marries.  All that he has worked for will be lost.

Rhett has always known he is not good enough for his twin brother's best friend.  Cole is the sexiest man he has ever seen.  When he proposes they plan for their futures together, it seems like the best plan.

I am going to be honest with you.  I have never read either of these authors' books.  After this amazing story - that will change.  I loved this story so much I eagerly gobbled each page.  I laughed, cried, and rejoiced with these characters.  Happily, this is an amazing read that I, for one, hope makes it into the movie theaters.  So hot!  I give this a 5/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

This was really good; Robert Garson is a great reader
Warlock Holmes - A Study in Brimstone - G.L. Denning

If you are doing Halloween Bingo, this book would work for: Spellbound, Supernatural, Relics and Curios, Shifters, and Country House Mystery.  The only reason I am not counting it is because I started the audio before Sept.

Warlock Holmes is part parody/part fantasy rendering of Sherlock Holmes.  Each chapter is based on a Holmes' adventure, and usually includes Watson doing some type of riff about a logical point or Victorian behavoir.  (The whole discussion of the speckled ban is worth the cost of the book).

The difference is that Warlock Holmes is a man of unique talents and isn't quite normal.  He might not be the brightest bulb in the bunch, but he is likable.  His friends in Scotland Yard are also slightly different.

Robert Garson's narrative voice is spot on.  He also doesn't do silly and annoying female voices.

The book does end on a bit of a cliffhanger.  But there is are second and third volumes.

This is great.
