Empire of Storms (Throne of Glass, #5)Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

*Edit: I wrote this review at midnight so there's mistakes and a lot of "I just can't even"s. Been correcting most, but some still linger....

Okay now you're free to read it if you wish, but don't say I didn't warn you...

**Spoilers Ahead**

Well... this book, where to start? So, it's going to be a gif reaction then, since I just can't even even. (I didn't take any notes while reading this so I'm just commenting on the parts I found most memorable)

Sooo to be honest, I found this book at the beginning

Also, I found myself skimming through Aelin's chapters just to get to Manon's because...well, Manon is amazing. I just can't even do her justice in writing how brill she is in this. I mean so much character development and just an overall brilliant character, I just love her so much.
Thank you, Ms. Maas.

Oh my word, and that scene with Manon battling her Grandmother,

That was definitely my FAVOURITE SCENE OML!

As for Aelin... I've thought this since HoF, --I loved Celaena but Aelin I found to be a now dull and kind of boring character. She really irritates me as well. So many mixed feeling about her...

Rowan is the same (I'll be honest, I've shipped Celaena and Chaol since forever, and I'm annoyed SJM ruined that ship by unnecessarily making Chaol seem like an-...um..bad person)
Anyway, the next victim of my honesty is Aedion.

KIDDING. (sort of)
What is up with his guy? HoF I didn't like him (push Dorian into a thorn bush next time when I'm around) and then in QoS I reeaally liked him and in this one.... especially during the end, he just...I can't deal with aggressive men, and this guy has anger issues. but that scene on the beach after Lysandra had finished that epic battle underwater and she had to wait in seadragon form, that scene, guys

Oh and Dorianon!

I love Dorian, so. darn. much. I'm like,

Love himmmmm

Okay I need to go back to Rowan and Aelin. (Jumpin' about in this review but it's the most coherent one I could come up with...)
So, what if they were just friends?

Would I like them better as friends? Heck yes. This is one of my (many) unpopular opinions; I DO NOT SHIP AELIN AND ROWAN. I loved their "friendship" in HoF and I thought when she gave this little speech, it was obvious that they were going to remain friends: "I claim you Rowan Whitethorne, I don't care how much you protest, I claim you as my friend"

I know you are/can be friends with your significant other, but after HoF I didn't see any chemistry between them besides them lusting after each other
And the... "mushy" scenes (as jessethereader so calls them)

I mean I was just like skimming through looking like,

Kill me all you want, but there was no real (I certainly didn't feel any) emotion at these scenes. "Love" scenes are meant to strengthen the character's relationship with each other and grow the reader's love for the characters too. But these scenes were just so dull and pointless. And needless to say, I hated them.

Elide and Lorcan were so cute together, loved 'em!
(btw, was anyone else getting Elide name mispronounced? I kept saying EE-LIED I didn't know it was EE-LEAD until the end when I was embarrassingly corrected...
In fact, here's a list of names I've been pronouncing wrong: Chaol (I thought CH [as in chair]-ALE), Maeve (MAY-EVE), and Lorcan (LOW-CAN)(I didn't even see that r in Lorcan D:<). Ugh dear me...

I'm writing this at midnight, nearing dropping off to sleep, so I'm going to skip right to THE ENDING.

I have to say, my opinion of Aelin has risen higher than before

Meaning I like her a lot more at the end of this book.

But SJM you really are a cruel human being, I can't even-- why would you do this to me??

I just...I can't...I'm sorry I just can't even...I cannot even even to even...no just no, I'm...I'm out

RTC (actually it might be a gif reaction review because nothing that I write seems coherent)

Review: Empire of Storms (Throne of Glass #5 ) by Sarah J. Maas
Empire of Storms - Sarah J. Maas

The long path to the throne has only just begun for Aelin Galathynius. Loyalties have been broken and bought, friends have been lost and gained, and those who possess magic find themselves at odds with those don't. As the kingdoms of Erilea fracture around her, enemies must become allies if Aelin is to keep those she loves from falling to the dark forces poised to claim her world. With war looming on all horizons, the only chance for salvation lies in a desperate quest that may mark the end of everything Aelin holds dear.

Aelin's journey from assassin to queen has entranced millions across the globe, and this fifth installment will leave fans breathless. Will Aelin succeed in keeping her world from splintering, or will it all come crashing down?

If you have not read any of the previous book you should not read this review, it will spoil things for you ;) Thus book. OMG is all I can say. Over and over again. It now has been over a week since I finished the book and I still not sure how to feel, except sad and heartbroken and I want the next book. This book is absolutely amazing and super emotional, plus we get tons of nonstop action, paired with some sexy times and of course humor. But it would not be a SJM book if she wouldn’t tear out our hearts and feed them to the vlag plus there are some pretty epic plot twist that I never saw coming. Well some of them other things have been foreshadowed. Each book gets longer and longer but that is totally fine with me. But that being said, this book is massive and so much happens that there is no way I can cover everything and keep it spoiler-free. So I will TRY to make it short and just touch on some of the main events and characters. Maeve…. Yup still evil and even more so than even thought and her plan will come to light at end of the book. We meet Rolfe and I have to say I kind of liked him in a way. He is also pretty important to Aelin and the crew. Lorcan I really not sure what to think of him yet, but on the other side I like him or more like what he could be if not for Maeve.Only at the end of the book do we know whos side he is really on and even then we can’t be sure Elide, more about her come to light and she has quiete the journey, like most females in the series I like her. Strong and interdepend, never gives up. Manon, Oh my, At the very first time we meet her I was bored with her and her 13 but now I love her. LOVE HER so much. I love where it has taken her and we learn some pretty vital and interesting things about her and her family. Some pretty heartbreaking things are also happening. I just love her whole storyline and cannot get enough of her. Lysandra, she is another one who snuck into my heart fairly quick the last book, She really has come into her own and makes some pretty heavy sacrifices to help end the war. Dorian, I was never a huge fan of him but I must say he is winning me over more and more. The things he does and says are awesome. He also finds very unlikely partner. I wasn’t convinced at first but ended up cheering for them. It was funny, sexy and a bit kinky but yeah overall it worked. Aedion, I also loved him and where this all is going with him. He meets long lost family and I love his reaction, it was true and it was him. It just came natural. But I think I would like to see this resolved in the next book, well the book after Tower of Dawn. Okay now before we get to Rowan and Aelin I like to say that we do not get to see my boy Chaol and I must say would I have not known that Tower of Dawn is about him and Nesryn on the other end of the world, I would have been pretty mad. But luckily I was late to the series and knew that, though I still kind of missed him. Rowan, oh my favorite fae warrior prince, I just loved everything about him in this book. He is sweet, super funny and pretty freaking steamy. Oh my. But also lethal and will stop at nothing to protect Aelin .The tension between and Aelin are super high until the hit the beach and even after. They are one hell of a power couple and make a feared enemy. Aelin keeps to herself a lot in this book and it made no sense at first but it makes all perfect sense at the end. The end where we get one bombshell after the next and a mother-load of new information. I was on the edge of my seat, I was shocked, I was heartbroken and beaten and I could not believe all the things we just learned. All that to just let is hanging there… I think of all the endings of her books this one was the most cruel and heartbreaking of all, even more so that I know I have to wait forever to find out what will happen next. We also have some new and interesting couples in this book some I’m not sure about other I can totally see. But the steam factor goes up in this book for sure. Overall EPIC book, I cannot say enough how much I recommend this entire series. They just keep getting better and better. I rate this a full 5 ★ again .

Some of my favorite quotes:

“You will find, Rolfe, that one does not deal with Celaena Sardothien. One survives her”

“It is not such a hard thing, is it - to die for your friends.”

“I'd walk into the burning heart of hell itself to find you.”

“War is sanctioned murder, no matter what side you're on.”

“Perhaps the Darkness was another world, another realm. Perhaps she'd gone to the hell-realm the humans so feared. She hated Death. And Death could go to hell, too-”

Great fantasy story
Hope and Red (The Empire of Storms) - Jon Skovron

Only little niggle: feels a bit simple.

But it is fast paced, interesting world-building and a good set of main and side characters.

Made for a great read.

#62 - Empire of Storms by Sarah J Maas
Empire of Storms - Sarah J. Maas

I read this book for the first time when it came out last year and I remember really enjoying it. The second read was as good, I really liked this book and all its characters.

I don't really know what to say without any spoilers, this book is the 5th in the series and a lot have happen to our main character since she started her journey. She has grown so much and yet, she is still the same. I remember really disliking her the first time I read Throne of Glass, but now, I think she is amazing.

I just think some romances are a bit forced and do not feel really natural. As if all female characters needed to be with a male character just because he is around. It is the feeling I got out of this book, but I still kind of enjoyed those "romances".

This book is full of adventure and revelations and once again, I'm impressed how the author reveals some part of the story to the other characters as the same time as to the reader. Aelin is scheming and nobody knows it, not even the reader, until one of the characters discovers what she did. I think it really add something to the book.

The ending left me on edge, just like last time, but I had Tower of Dawn to help me get over the book hangover. I just finished Tower of Dawn and will post my review really soon!

Wild E Ticket Ride
Empire of Storms - Sarah J. Maas

Holy Shitake ! What a ride. I was slung to the left, thrust to the right, crushed into the corner, dunked under black water, floated on a cloud, and then flung over a cliff with no bottom. Yep, a total E ticket ride with no safety bar. That ending

How can I go on with real life with that ending ? How ? Ms. Maas you are a beast. :D And I thank you. This series just gets better and better.
The break down, there is love, quests, deaths, fighting, sex, flirting, shifting, sinking, fires, ice, snark, twists, betrayals, truths, blood, and critters. Don't miss it, read the series.
