Espedair Street - Iain Banks The best rock & roll novel I've ever read.
Full of hope and despair (hmm, think that's what that title word is all about?), quirky humor and brilliant wit.
This is one of Banks' earlier books, and one of the last that I haven't yet read by him. He's just always excellent.

Espedair Street - Iain Banks They're supposedly just friends. But now they're lying naked on the beach together, looking up at the stars with no one else in sight, and he's trying to find a tactful way to explain how he feels about her. (This kind of thing seems to happen more frequently to rock stars than it does to me). Luckily, she's a practical girl with good night vision.

"Are you pointing at anything in particular?" she asks.
