This was boring. It also made Maine sound boring too which after reading a ridiculous amount of Stephen King novels set in this state made me sad.
I think it ultimately didn’t work because Holmes doesn’t just come right out with things. Evie dances around her marriage and then you just get drips and drabs here and there about her mother, her friendships, everything. I think if we had gotten more flashbacks with Evie and her husband things would have felt more solid. Evie lying about things for almost two years though felt weird and even in the end it sounds like she kept things hidden from people. I don’t know, the message of this book was muddled.
The romance didn’t really work for me either. Maybe it was just me, but it felt like any guy could have stepped in there in the end.
The ending was okay, I just was glad to put this one aside.
