Temper
Wild Fire - A.K. MacBride

This is book # 3 in the Breathing Hearts series.  This book can be read as a standalone novel.  For reader enjoyment and to avoid spoilers, I recommend reading this series in order.

Frankie is just baking as usual when she feels tired and woozy.  Next thing she knows she is face to face with a blast from the past she did not want to see.  Rescuing her was nice, but coming back for more is just wrong.

Gage wants to move on from the past.  He comes back to his hometown with his daughter to start over.  Seeing Frankie puts him on alert.  Seeing her all the time gets his heart racing.  Can they get along long enough to work things out?

This story moved at such a quick pace.  The characters are strong with the heated backstory that sets the book on sizzle right from chapter one.  Sexy and smart, this was an enjoyable and relaxing read.  I give this a 4/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

Frustrating
Slow Burn - A.K. MacBride

This is book #2 in the Breathing Hearts series.  This book can be read as a standalone novel.  To understand the series, and to avoid spoilers, I recommend reading this series in order.

Maddie got a first impression of the new neighbor.  Hint: It was not a good one. He was flat out rude. He was also hot as hell.  If she can get her mind of that magnificent tattooed bod, thinks may start looking up.

Adam misses his old life.  Moving to make a change, he left behind parents, career and everything that was familiar.  Now he has a neighbor with a dog who won't leave him alone.  Would be easier if he could ignore them both.

Between fighting the attraction and fighting one another, the sparks just literally continue to fly.  The heat is raring hot and the characters are intriguing.  I liked the pace and the story was a great read.  I give this a 4/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

Instant Heat - A.K. MacBride

Rae is talked into hooking up with the new local hottie.  Little does she know, when they finally exchange names there are several surprises!  What happens when she wants more?

Griffin was thrilled to find a welcoming woman, but he timing could have been better.  Once he finds out her brother works with him there is possible repercussions.  Should they take a chance on what they may have found?

While I found the pace quick, and the story rather fascinating, I was generally annoyed by the accent from Griffin being overly much.  I know the author was trying to set a tone, but it really turned me off.  The characters, however, are a joy to read and the fireworks were poppin'!  I give this book a 3/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

Review: The Fireman
The Fireman CD: A Novel - Joe Hill

This was so good. And scary. Going through an actual pandemic at the moment has me scared that things will get as bad as they are in this book. Government could break down, people could start a revolution. You just don't know what scared people will do. Fear drives you to craziness. That being said, the characters were great. Harper was sweet and it was nice seeing her transition from the meek of a jerk to a tough independent women fighting to save her unborn child as well as the friends she made along the way. John, the Fireman was a piece of work. He was a jerk, but the kind you like. The kind who is only a jerk to keep you safe. All of the fear of the spore made everyone nuts--those infected and those not. It was well told, long but not overly so.

My only gripe is a reoccurring theme with Hill and his father Mr. King. Why must they always put some sort of animal death/abuse/torture in their novels. It's never necessary and it never to help the plot along. It's there for shock value and it's not an attractive trope. I hate it. I'm not sure how many more of their books I can read if this really is a common thread between them.

Note to self: I'll rewrite this later when there is more time to be eloquent. I just wanted  to write my initial feelings before I jump into my next read for Dewey's.

Note to self v2.0: I think this is as eloquent as I'm gonna get.

Burn Zone (Hotshots #1) - Annabeth Albert

Jacob has been in love with Lincoln for a while.  They have had to live apart, since Lincoln would not give them a chance and hurt his best friend.  Jacob being his best friends little brother put a kink in the works.

Lincoln is not sure what to do when Jacob not only comes back to town, but works with him as a smoke jumper as well.  He has paid his dues.  The only issue now is can Lincoln let Jacob run in danger and not blow his cover?  His feelings have been hidden and now they may come to light.

This story was so HOT!  I mean that in both the figurative & literal ways.  I loved that this was a second chance story.  The job is dangerous, but so is loving someone forbidden.  These characters made losing sleep worth my while, as I could not put this one down until I finished the whole thing.  Lots of sparks a flyin'!  I give this read a 4/5 Kitty's Paws UP!
