The bookcase cleaning project. Temporary halt, because SPIDER!

I don't do spiders.  Period.  If they are outside, I leave them alone, even the black widows.  But if they are inside, it's Raid-time. This one was almost certainly already deceased, but I had to spray first, then wait, then vacuum.  I simply don't do spiders.

Once that was taken care of, I began cleaning and organizing.  In the process, I found a battered copy of Barbara Michaels' House of Many Shadows, which I read for Bingo on a library digital loan because I didn't know I had the paperback.  A not-quite-so-battered copy of The Sea King's Daughter also turned up.  And a Victoria Holt title that had not been catalogued.  Plus a few other things.

Several other books on the back of the top shelf became library donations, because I have picked up digital editions.  I am often loath to give up my paperbacks even though I have Kindle copies, and that is just plain stupid.  If they were books I wanted multiple copies of for comparison of editions, that would be one thing.  They aren't.  In fact, they aren't anything special enough to have two copies of for any reason.  Paperback copies are going to the library!!

I did not make as much progress on this project as I had planned, but something is better than nothing.  The bottom shelf still needs a lot of work.  However, the motivation also prompted me to tackle some other cleaning/organizing chores that have been staring me in the face for far too long.

A large pile of junk paper has been sorted and diminished by about one-half; half of what remains needs to be returned to their original file folders. I will try to get to that this afternoon.

A HUGE stack of small sewing projects related to art show prep has been pulled out of the corner where I stashed it a year or so ago and moved to front and center by the sewing machine.  I completed five of these little projects -- there are literally dozens of them -- this morning before the temperature in the studio made further work too uncomfortable.  My studio needs cleaning/purging/organizing every bit as desperately as the house.

We won't even talk about the workshop.  I think it may have spiders, too, so that's a good reason not to address it right now.

Click Clack Moo: Cows That Type - Doreen Cronin,Betsy Lewin

Lexile Level: AD160L

This is a book about literate cows. They start to be mischievous leaving the farm notes. Causing the farmer some trouble around the farm. I would use this a just a little fun book for the children to laugh at. It would be a good book to take a little break.

November 2016 Book Fun Magazine: Ken and Joni Eareckson Tada: Cover Interview - Book Fun Magazine

November 2016 Book Fun Magazine: Ken and Joni Eareckson Tada: Cover Interview
Have enjoyed the previous months of this magazine as they tell you what new publications are due out and a brief summary of the books.
WOW 220 pages, gotta be the longest magazine so far.Love reading of the Thanksgiving traditions and memories from the editor-how priceless!
Loved interview with an author of whose book I will be receiving soon-so much insight into the author and her world.
Few other books I wanted to request from the Review Club but at over 400 pages and holiday baking there's no way I could offer my time to that one-this time.
Great Christmas book ideas and also a getaway to Australia-what a treasure-I've yet to request any of the books but something about the picture makes me want to read them.
Hardships some authors have opened up to us about and how they struggle but realize God has their backs with even everyday problems we all face. So inspirational.
Articles from contributors are inspiring and good reads along with things to be thankful for as it's Thanksgiving time and the autumn pages are beautiful.
We are getting ready to go to an amusement type park in a few weeks so reading about the state fair hit just the right spot!
So many good reads upcoming and I've jotted down the names of the ones that interest me from the things read in this magazine.
Enjoyed seeing recipes in this magazine also-great addition.
Really looking forward to reading Cheri's books after reading the interview in the magazine.
Took me several days to read because I wanted to read every article. Very enjoyable.

A Priestess, a God and a Shifter-what could go wrong?
Jaguar at the Portal: A Mythological Shifter Fantasy - Aimee Easterling

"You will not apply my precept," he said, shaking his head. "How often have I said to you that when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?” – Sherlock Holmes, The Sign of the Four, ch. 6 (1890)

“Okay, yes, Tez admitted that he was lowering his own standards by accepting a prayer that wasn’t couched in more flattering terms and that didn’t come served up on a bed of human sacrifice. But Whatcha gonna do? A god’s gotta do what a god’s gotta do, times were apparently changing, yada, yada, yada. – Tezcatlipoc, “I am the Smoking Mirror, the Black Tezcatlipoca, the Enemy of Both Sides!” Yeah, total Jerkface is more like it . . .

Ixchel thought growing up with five older brothers was hard enough, but when they started sneaking out and coming home with bruises, blood, and items they certainly didn’t earn themselves, her heart broke and she begged them not to continue what they were doing. However, all her begging was for naught, and Ixchel was left to mourn and fret - until her wonderful, hard working parents were gunned down in their own home by enemies of her brothers gang. Turning states evidence was hard – knowing her brothers would kill her when they got out of prison if she didn’t flee was even harder. And lonelier.

Now, Ixchel is far away and, having put herself through school, she is now a vet in tiny southern town, still looking over her shoulder after fifteen years, waiting for her brothers to track her down. But life as a veterinarian makes her happy, and life is peaceful.

Well, until the jaguar in the tree. Then things get very interesting, very fast.

Finn, the jaguar in question, has been on a quest for many years. Ever since he suddenly turned into a human and his mother and twin sister drove him away. Now, he is looking for an ancient idol, one he hopes will lead him to other jaguars like himself. Ah . . . but have a care, young jaguar, for you know not what your efforts will lead you to. Such as a lovely young woman who turns out to be a jaguar priestess – she just doesn’t know it yet. And an immature, self-indulgent, spoiled-rotten Aztec god on a mission to release himself from his prison in the idol and go on a human sacrifice rampage. Sigh. Now Ixchel and Finn are playing “god worshipers” to an adolescent god on a mission and a hunter is on their tail. Oh, and Ixchel’s brothers? Yep. They found her . . .

This book was a great deal of fun. Tez is indeed a jerk – but a funny one at times, and watching the interactions of this unusual threesome is at times irritating, at times painful, and at others truly funny. This was my first Amiee Easterling, but won’t be my last. But I really hope she doesn’t continue the habit using her character’s titles as personal pronoun. Totally irritating. But that’s just me.
