Rain of Ash by Gwen Mitchell
Rain of Ash: Skydancer Book 1 (The Zyne Legacy) - Gwen Mitchell

This is my first book by Gwen Mitchell. It will not be my last though. Rain of Ash is the story of Briana Spurrier. The last of her family has passed away and she must return to her home town. Years before Bri turned her back on everything and everyone including her magic to be a concert pianist. Now that she is back she must unleash her magic to battle a demon to save herself and everyone else.

She hooks back up with her friends from childhood. Astrid her best friend and Lucas her first love, to try and break the curse against Bri. Along the way we also meet Kean, who feels that he is getting a fresh beginning now that Bri has returned, and Eric from her present life as a pianist.

The book was very interesting and full of action, magic, and love or lust. i was not crazy about Kean and his attitude an the way he handled things but there's pretty much one charater in every book you just can't fall in love with. Bri was not always where she needed to be but i still liked her character pretty much. I do feel that she would of been stronger if she wasn't lost. I personally do not decide if most series are going to be good or bad until after book 2. Which I am fully willing to read, I enjoyed this book and can see it only as getting better.

The book was narrated by Daniela Acitelli. She done an Ok job, but Bri's character came off a bit whiny at times, when I felt that the passage had her being a bit more tough. Other then that I enjoyed her narration.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Gwen Mitchell. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

She Won’t Drink The Kool Aid – To Tame A Wild Heart by Gwen Mitchell @Gwen_Mitchell
To Tame A Wild Heart - Gwen Mitchell

The cover for To Tame A Wild Heart by Gwen Mitchell is gorgeous. I love the colors that pop off the page. What do you think? Does it catch your eye and make you want to know more?

To Tame a Wild Heart (Zyne Legacy #1)

Amazon  /  Goodreads

MY REVIEW

Tonight’s the night. She’s leaving this shithole dungeon that is Parkview Sanitarium.

Start by shedding the straight jacket she is wearing. Time to put her powers to work. I love her ability to become invisible. I think that would be so cool. Just think of all the things you could do.

Corvin has been trained in the way of the Synod, but he wants no part of it. He is a falconer, a bird whisperer, if you will. He just wants to take care of his birds and be left alone. UNTIL…

His mother demands that he do his part by mentoring someone and Audrey just happens to make an appearance. Snatched out of the sky after jumping from a window to escape the sanitarium, she ends up here. But, where is here? Secrets will be revealed in due time. Til then…

She will take the knowledge they can teach her, but she won’t drink the Kool Aid. She curses a lot…and, well, I can relate to that. lol

Audrey is strong, patient, determined, loyal, and though she is damaged, she knows the difference between right and wrong. She keeps her guard up, sleeps with one eye open, and trusts no one. She will do what is necessary to achieve her goals. Her and Corvin have more in common than either knows.

I think a romance is brewing. The attraction is mutual, though they both try to deny it. It is a slow brewing love. As they train together, learn to work together, finally trust each other, she reveals her mission. Lilly. She promised Lilly to return for her.

“Please…be good.”

“No promises. I don’t play well with others.”

“Neither do I.”

To Tame A Wild Heart by Gwen Mitchell has all the goodies I look for in a paranormal romance. Heroes, demons, battles, good and bad and in between, love and romance, sadness and happiness and lots of action from the opening pages to keep me reading.

There will be more to this series and I am eagerly waiting to see what comes next.

The Undead Walk Among US in Cloak of Deceit by Gwen Mitchell @Gwen_Mitchell
Cloak of Deceit: An Urban Fantasy Romance (Alex Moore Book 1) - Gwen Mitchell

I received Cloak of Deceit from Gwen Mitchell some time ago and it got lost in the review pile. This year, I aim to catch up on every review owed, regardless of how long it has been.

Cloak of Deceit (Alex Moore, #1)

Goodreads  /  Amazon

MY REVIEW

Alex Moore is a college senior and her whole life had been planned out. Until now.

Her boyfriend broke the rules of the vampire society when he created her and now she is not only a vampire, she is a psychic and has telekinetic powers.  The voices inside her head are the hive, a group of psychics called Gregori. But she is more than that.

She is an impossibility. She is a Gregori, a sworn enemy of the Undead, even though she is one of the Undead also.

I went through the painful, horrifying transformation with her. I heard the voices calling. I ran with her, though it was only in our minds.

Whether she was a violation of the law or a walking bull’s eye, it didn’t matter. Either way she was in deep danger. They all want her dead.

There would be no escape. Without Julian, a Knight of the Cloak, a sexy Undead enforcer, she didn’t stand a chance. Would he stand beside her?

When she talked of drinking the blood and the thickness coating her throat, it almost made me gag.

Tomato juice + cow’s blood = newbie cocktail

I enjoyed this vampire romance novel. Gwen Mitchell did an excellent job with descriptions and details of the fights and emotions of the characters. I loved and hated them and what more can I ask for.

Audrey Taylor has carved a living out of society’s fringes using her supernatural abilities and street smarts. Freedom—sleeping beneath the open skies and under the radar—is all she’s ever needed. But when an ancient council of witches discovers her powers, Audrey must submit to their training or be stripped of her gifts and her memory. Audrey knows better than to trust anyone, and she’s never worked well with others, so it’s just her luck to be assigned a withdrawn and irritable falconer as her mentor. Even more disturbing is her desire to tear through his brooding façade and bare the man beneath when she should be focused on escape.

Corvin Wright values the solace of his duties and only finds peace among the birds entrusted to his keeping. But the council no longer sees a use for his unique gifts, and his sanctuary is in danger unless he can earn his place by babysitting a fledgling witch. The task becomes daunting when his apprentice turns out to be wilder and more broken than any creature he’s ever cared for. Her fiery spirit and dangerous beauty challenge every ideal of the life he’s built. As Audrey wrestles with her captivity and the bonds of responsibility laid upon her, Corvin must find a way to tame her wild heart before she breaks his.

This is my first experience with Gwen Mitchell. I had a delightful time diving into her Zyne Legacy. It was different and unique.

To Tame a Wild Heart is book one in the Zyne Legacy series. It’s a fast-paced adventure into a witchy world.

Empathic powers, evil sorcerers, animal characters, and witches are just a few of the things we are treated too. I enjoyed both Corvin and Audrey. We get to learn about their past and their magic. As for their romance it was sweet. I really loved Corvin. He understands Audrey, that she is as wild as the animals her cares for, and so he knows how to win her over. Their where also several secondary characters to enjoy and the plot was fascinating. We learn of the dangers in their world; both from mundane and the magical beings. As for the witch society I’m not sure how I feel about it, yet. I need more time in this world to fully decided.

As I was reading I did have some questions pop up and they did get answered, but I also had more questions by the end that where left un-answered.

To Tame a Wild Heart was a satisfying read and I’m curious to read on.
