As a hunter, I despise people that hunt for sport. Hunting is for survival and food. Not just because. And these rich assholes pay to go to this planet and hunt animals that are threatening but not too threatening. Now that something is there that can kill them, it isn't fun anymore. Psychopaths. I've hunted my whole life, I've eaten deer, rabbit and squirrel. But no, don't ever think that you are the absolute. There's always a bigger fish.
So I went back to the AVP trilogy and I'm much happier. I am loving this. And it reminded me that when I was really young, maybe 7 or 8, I had the comic of this novel. Or at least part of this. I remember reading the flashback scene of Machiko helping the yautja capture an alien queen and thinking how cool it was she was a human. Funny how these things come back around.
I feel like, right off the bat, I have found a massive plot hole. And because of this plot hole and the fact we are dealing with O'Neil with 1 L, not 2, this is just not for me. Maybe I'm setting myself up for failure. Maybe I'm being negative. But I'm finding the fact that Jack just walks back to Abydos without hesitation and Daniel doesn't want to know WTF he's doing back is just too much. The plan was to tell the Earth the gate was destroyed so that nobody would mess with Abydos anymore. And Abydos was supposed to bury their end of the gate. But neither of these things happen and nobody questions this. Too many ex machina holes in the story.
