Burn for Me (Hidden Legacy #1) by Ilona Andrews
Burn for Me - Ilona Andrews

syns

Nevada Baylor is faced with the most challenging case of her detective career—a suicide mission to bring in a suspect in a volatile case. Nevada isn’t sure she has the chops. Her quarry is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, who can set anyone and anything on fire.

Then she’s kidnapped by Connor “Mad” Rogan—a darkly tempting billionaire with equally devastating powers. Torn between wanting to run or surrender to their overwhelming attraction, Nevada must join forces with Rogan to stay alive.

Rogan’s after the same target, so he needs Nevada. But she’s getting under his skin, making him care about someone other than himself for a change. And, as Rogan has learned, love can be as perilous as death, especially in the magic world.

Omg. I cannot believe I have not read this book up until now. And all it took was a reading slump and a good friend nudging me to read it to the point she just got me the kindle version and almost had to force me to read it. But holy Rogan, am I glad I did. It was just what I needed. Being a fan of the Andrew’s work it was easy to fall in love with the book, story and characters. They just have a way of writing that just sucks you into their books. A great talent for combining mystery with humor, magic, and romance. Plus of course the awesomely well written characters they always have. Both Main and side characters. This book was no different and to be honest, I’m not sure who I like more Nevada or Mad lol. I really like Nevada. She not only is a bad a$$ but also really smart, funny and above all a family person and will do anything to protect them. She values human live no matter how low on the totem pole they may be. Also she stands up to Mad and resists him… well mostly. But her speech to him at the end made me want to pull out my pom-poms and cheer for her. Go Nevada Go! But what I’m interested more than her future relationship with Mad (we all know it is coming) is her Magic. How much does she really have and why does she have that much. What is her family hiding? Speaking of family…… I love hers, her mom is awesome but I think Grams take the cake. Mad for some reason was not a favorite at first and it took a few chapters to warm up to him. But I’m all warm now ;) I like that he is honest and straight forward no matter the subject and he just goes for it. On the other hand I dislike the same alpha male mannerism but I think him with Nevada are the perfect match. They balance each other out so much. Plus I think she is the one who can show him again the value of human life. The” softer” side of him whether for show or not was really nice and I loved the whole flowers office scene. But what I enjoyed ,most was Nevada and Mad going back and forth with each other, but when I came down to it they were there for each other .

Overall, great read and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

I rate it 4 ½ ★

Ilona Andrews is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. author2sm“Ilona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.)

Gordon and Ilona currently reside in Oregon with their two children, three dogs and a cat. They have co-authored two series, the bestselling urban fantasy of Kate Daniels and romantic urban fantasy of The Edge.

Burn For Me (Hidden Legacy #1) by Ilona Andrews
Burn for Me - Ilona Andrews

ALL THE STARS! Just take all the stars, Burn For Me. If there's one thing I've learned in my manic fandom of Ilona Andrews, it's that I'm never disappointed. They write amazing women, they write equally amazing men, and there are never any obnoxious drama-filled fight scenes or catty love triangles. However, there are always deliciously steamy scenes, and so I'm a happy reader. All the things I love, none of the things I don't. They get all the stars.

For those of you who have been following me, you know that I'm head over heels for Kate Daniels. As much as I love other Andrews books, up until now Kate has been my favorite. I think, and this is big, Nevada may have just tied for first place. I loved her character! Loved her fire, her loyalty to her family, and the way that she was always putting herself and her career first. In the same respect, I think Mad Rogan may have stolen the top spot from Curran. Oh sure, Curran is a shifter. But Rogan? Oh, he's terrifying and gorgeous. Smart, connected, sexy as hell. There isn't too much steaminess in this book, but the one scene that is there? Well. It's not what you'd expect and yet it's so very hot. *happy sigh* Rogan is just so damn yummy.

I know this review is a rambling mess, and I'm okay with that! It exactly mirrors the thoughts flitting around inside my head. There has been a distinctly Andrews shaped hole in my reading world, and now I can look forward to a new Kate Daniels book and a new Nevada Baylor book in the same year! Life is good friends. Life is good.
