Touching My Father's Soul: A Sherpa's Journey to the Top of Everest - Jamling Tenzing Norgay,Broughton Coburn,Jon Krakauer

I met Jamling Tenzing Norgay, the son of the first man (along with Edmund Hillary) to summit Everest, at a book talk in 2006. Very happy to report that it took me a mere decade to actually read the book he signed for me. I'm glad I finally did it! I also watched the IMAX film that was made on the climb this book documents... It was nice to have some visuals bring the reality of the climb into focus, but ultimately the book was much more interesting.

I've been carrying around Krakauer's Into Thin Air for at least a decade as well, and I'm looking forward to reading a more writerly take of the tragic 1996 climbing season. Ultimately, I'm left feeling that climbing Everest is a foolish and selfish undertaking... I think there are parts of nature we weren't meant to touch. But I think I'm a minority in that opinion!
