In the Cities Book 1
In the Dark (The Cities Below) - Jen Colly

I waffled back and forth on my feelings about this one. I went into it expecting a romance and while there is a couple who fall in love, it's more romance light. There's a kiss here and there, and some trust issues that can be expected considering the circumstances, but it's not an all-consuming love story. Nevertheless, the more I read, the more interested I became. This first book does a great job of introducing the reader to the world of The Cities Below. We also get a bit of intrigue and action as tension builds between the vampires and demons. We do get a bit of a cliffy on that front, and even though the romance lover in me was a little disappointed, the paranormal/fantasy lover truly enjoyed this tale of complete vampire cities beneath our feet.

Review For: Sheltered by Jen Colly
Sheltered (The Cities Below) - Jen Colly

Sheltered by Jen Colly is book Four in "The Cities Below" series.  This is the story of Bette Dautry and Rollin Casteel.
Both Bette and Rolling have secrets that they at first try to keep from the other.  But they are both drawn to each other so much that Rollin isn't willing to let her go.  Bette is even rethinking what she though she would get from Rollin.
I really enjoyed their story and the books I have read in this series.  I do think you can make this a standalone book if you choose to do so.

Release Day Review! Sheltered (The Cities Below # 4) by Jen Colly

Only love can save her from certain death. Too bad, she doesn’t believe in love...

When Bette Dautry comes to him, seeking his protection, Guardian Rollin Casteel suspects the mysterious beauty has an ulterior motive. Unable to resist her seductive charms, he soon hungers to mark her as his. Only Bette disappears before he can sink his teeth into her tender flesh, leaving Rollin with one mission: to find her—and to claim her. . . .

Bette seduces Rollin intent on conceiving his child, believing the mother-child bond to be the only kind of love she can sustain—the only kind of love that can keep her alive. But she never expects to feel so much for her strong and silent lover. Then she discovers Rollin is none other than the heir to the Balinese throne—a man too noble—too dear—to play a role in her dark scheme. A man she would willingly die for, if only he would set her free. . . .

The Cities Below takes place in an altered world that the author brings to vivid life and really makes it easy for the readers picture each and every scene. Her world includes vampires and demons that she has created with a bit of unique flair and her characters are strong and vibrant which ensures that readers want to know every last detail of the story as they become completely caught up in the story.

Sheltered is full of sweet romance with some very heated passion to heat up the pages and emotional turbulence that grabs readers by their hearts which of course keeps things interesting as the story is also full of suspense and a few twists to keep readers guessing.

First, Bette has a secret agenda and Rollin is keeping secrets, both have good solid reasons for doing so, but they are emotional reasons, so this keeps readers on the edge as they await the final outcome of this romance. There is also some drama and conflict among other characters in the book that adds depth and helps to pull readers deeper into this fascinating world.

As with each and every visit to The Cities Below, I found that I was completely caught up in the book from the very beginning and I am looking forward to my next visit.  Jen Colly’s world has some unique qualities that have me recommending that you read the books in order, only so that you more understand the intricacies of her world but they can be read as standalone as well.

Sheltered is the 4th book in The Cities Below series.

good story and characters
Bound - Jen Colly

Keur is a vampire who can be invisible which is good for a spy and assassin. Which Keir was for Lady Arianne whom he owed a life debt as Keir is a condemned killer who must stay in the shadows so he won’t be found and killed. Lady Arianne is the last of her bloodline and has many enemies who want to see her dead  and has had an assassination attempt on her life. Arianne is the Lord of Galbraith- one of the Cities Below. Lady Adrianne is well protected between Keir and her Captain of the Guard Wolfe Rye. They together try to find out who was behind the assassination attempt. Cleopatra /Cleo is from a rich family and Keir has watched her from afar and cares for her but knows he is very below her and nothing could ever become of ehr and Kier. Then Lady Arianne sends Keir as her Emissary to another City Below- Balinese - to offer aid if needed as there have been reports of Demon attacks. Kier is then severely injured on his way back from a demon attack and falls from the air and lands at Cleo’s feet. Cleo takes care of Keir and he lives, Cleo has never really fit into her station in life as all those around her just want more money and power but all Cleo wants is peace. Cleo’s only friend is Lady Arianne. Cleo is very drawn to Keir and doesn’t even know his name. Cleo hears Keir has died and shuts down. But then she sees Keir again and goes after him. Cleo feels Keir is her other half and Keir finds peace and happiness when he is with Cleo but he can’t have a relationship with her as he owes Lady Arianne a life debt.

I liked this story a lot a little of a different twist on a paranormal story. I wish I had read the first book as I was a bit confused at times. But this book has so much to it: Secrecy, deceit, back stabbing ways, vampires, assassins, demons, intrigue, court life, kidnapping, assault, drama, danger, romance, loyalty, life debt,  forbidden love and so much more. I wish this story had been a little longer. I loved Cleo and Keir together. This had a good plot and also kept my attention all the way through to the end of the book. I liked the two cousins of Lady Arianne that show up at the end also. I liked the hidden societies. I loved the build up to romance. I liked the characters a lot and the ins and outs of this story and I recommend.
