Romance comic for the 21st century – quite good
Sugar #1 - Matt Hawkins,Jenni Cheung,Yishan Li

Julia is a waitress and student finding it hard to make ends meet. John is recently divorced and finding it hard to date. A chance meeting brings them together and this is the story of how their relationship develops. With scenes of a sexual nature, this volume is an easy read and, although a second volume is announced, the story seems complete. The artwork is clear and enjoyable and I can recommend this to lovers of romance comics.

Sugar: Volume 1
Sugar #1 - Matt Hawkins,Jenni Cheung,Yishan Li

I just didn't connect to this title the way I did to Sunstone or Swing - the storyline and characters lacked emotional punch for me. I think the real issue was that I didn't particularly like most of the characters. Several of the side characters are terrible people, and the main characters both felt very stock. Aptly named, this one can be a bit on the sweet and saccharine side. If you like the movie Pretty Woman this might be a big win for you. I will say that in the end I finally started to connect to Julia, so it must have been doing something right. All in all it was a mixed bag for me.

at least 2 problems with this
21 Rituals to change your life - Theresa Cheung

Now from a lot of the books I've read recently on improving my life, I've noticed that they suggest trying one new thing at a time.  Theresa Cheung suggests doing all 21 of these at a time.  And if you fail to do them for the 21 days straight you have to start again.  I believe this is what is called setting someone up to fail.

Secondly; getting out of bed earlier isn't a ritual, nor is taking a selfie to me a ritual.  These are just two of the HABITS she suggests trying, some are a bit more ritualistic but to me a ritual style bath, for example, involves laying out the soft robes for afterwards, selecting a candle and bath smells, picking the book(s) and drink and music and turning off notifications before slipping into the warm water and r e l a x. That's more of a ritual and what I kinda expected out of this book.  How to make the experiences of your life more special.

I also spotted that one of the cititations was from the Daily Fail.  Really?

It might suit someone looking to inject a little something more into their lives but, and it's a big but, I would do a few at a time, they're split into morning, evening and night and I'd pick one from each to try for 21 days and then maybe add more, but it's very prescriptive and not everyone functions the same.  We are not all interchangeable and ritual should exhalt that not swallow it.

Better
Avengers & X-Men: Axis #9 (of 9) - Rick Remender,Jim Cheung

The ending, with Sabertooth still good and still struggling with his compassion, does more to tell me about what being flipped around does to a person than anything else in this whole event.   It's heartbreaking, it's heartfelt, and I wish more like that had been done wth the series.

Still, it's over, and I'm disappointed that they present Medusa as a part of this when she really wasn't, and was barely in one and eight, but I still kept liking this more as the event went on, possibly because I knew it was closer to ending.

And hey, it ended on a high note.   Not something I'll reread in the near future, though, mostly because it means slogging through the earlier mediocrity to get the full story.

Eeeeh
Avengers & X-Men: Axis #8 (of 9) - Rick Remender,Leinil Yu,Jim Cheung

Liked this more: you really get the swap, but I don't think Marvel fully mined what it means to swap their villains and heroes.  I mean, you got some, but the breadth of that, what it truly means and what it will mean in the future?   It's kinda glossed over.

Still, more enjoyable than issue one.  I got one, eight and nine in grab bags and although I've read the full event on Marvel Unlimited, I didn't feel like investing in them now because I wasn't that into this event.
