I could use this at work
The Prosekiller Chronicles: Rise of the Spider Goddess -- An Annotated Novel - Jim C. Hines

The book itself is not four stars. Quite honesty, Hines if that book had ever been published in the original form, it would have been the last thing of your I read.

That said - what this is is Hines first novel, written while he was in college, and basically a novelization of a gaming session. However, Hines has applied his snark to his own writing, making this a four star read simply for his own comments. Additionally, if you have ever corrected a bad essay then this is what you want to do instead of searching for those polite ways to say - this is stupid.

A bit of a let down
Revisionary: Magic Ex Libris: Book Four - Jim C. Hines

So I have to admit that I found this installment to be a little of a let down. Hines deserves full credit for actually, seriously, looking at what a revelation of magic could do, and considering how many Urban Fantasy novels skirt around this issue, its nice to see someone really think about it.

The problem is that thinking kinda goes out in the end after Lena's confession. Don't get me wrong, it is in keeping with her character, but in many ways, it speaks to some of the concerns that the various officers and officials are concerned about. And I understand that the central characters make true debate the issues raised in the conclusion difficult. And I even think that Hines is trying to get us, the readers to think about this, I just think it could have been done better.

Unbound - Jim C. Hines

For some reason, this book is not as  good as the first two in the series.  It’s not a bad book, but there is something almost lacking.  I can’t quite put my finger on it.

The really great thing about the book is that Isaac is surrounded by strong women who are strong in different ways, but none of whom needs Isaac to save them.  In fact, he usually needs them.  (And before someone starts wondering about why Isaac is the central character – well Hines did do the Princess novels).

It’s an enjoyable book, in particular with a good ending.  Hines is also a writer who is not afraid to take risks, so he gets points for that as well.
