Long Way Home Book Review
Long Way Home - Katie McGarry

3.5/5 stars

I liked the first half of this book much more than the second. It definitely dragged a bit and the constant I love you, I don't love you, I need time, etc. started to annoy me a bit. That being said, I really love Katie McGarry's characters. She's always able to suck me right in with her stories.

As a whole I like the Pushing the Limit series better but this motorcycle series is fun. Loved the way some of the characters from Pushing the Limits made its way into this book. I'm definitely looking forward to more by McGarry

Long Way Home (Thunder Road #3) by Katie McGarry Review
Long Way Home - Katie McGarry

Goodreads Synopsis: Seventeen-year-old Violet has always been expected to sit back and let the boys do all the saving.

It’s the code her father, a member of the Reign of Terror motorcycle club, raised her to live by. Yet when her dad is killed carrying out Terror business, Violet knows it’s up to her to do the saving. To protect herself, and her vulnerable younger brother, she needs to cut all ties with the club—including Chevy, the boy she’s known and loved her whole life.

But when a rival club comes after Violet, exposing old secrets and making new threats, she’s forced to question what she thought she knew about her father, the Reign of Terror, and what she thinks she wants. Which means re-evaluating everything: love, family, friends . . . and forgiveness.

Caught in the crosshairs between loyalty and freedom, Violet must decide whether old friends can be trusted—and if she’s strong enough to be the one person to save them all.

Review:

This wasn’t quite the story I was expecting. Long Way Home started with a bang and kept me captivated all the way through! There are also some twists in there that I was not expecting!

I loved that in the first book we got to see Oz’s total devotion to the club, then we got to see a different side to the club and question their actions through Razors story. Now through Chevy and Violets we got to yet again see that no matter what the club only tries to do right by their family, and although they might take it a bit far at times they are only motivated by their loyalty to those they love.

Violet is such a strong female character! She is completely devoted to her little brother and to those she loves but she is not a damsel in distress who needs rescuing and is willing to speak her mind no matter what. Girl power! And of course Chevy is not only swoon worthy but, like McGarry’s many other male leads, he would risk his life for his family and is fiercely protective. I really liked that Chevy could choose a different path and still be accepted by the club.

And then there’s Isaiah! I was so excited when they even just mentioned his name! We didn’t get to see a lot of him or his interactions with his family which it would have been nice to see his reaction to the club and how he fit into their dynamic. I would have also liked to see Isaiah and Chevy get to know each other and how their relationship would have turned out.

I can’t believe this is the last book in the Thunder Road Series, I’m gonna miss all the gang. I would love a story on Addison and the “new member” that has taken a liking to her ;) All in all this was a great conclusion to the series as everything was summed up really well and I can’t wait to see what McGarry has in store for us next!

Take Me On (Pushing The Limits #4) by Katie McGarry
Take Me On - Katie McGarry

Goodreads Synopsis: Acclaimed author Katie McGarry returns with the knockout new story of two high school seniors who are about to learn what winning really means.

Champion kickboxer Haley swore she'd never set foot in the ring again after one tragic night. But then the guy she can't stop thinking about accepts a mixed martial arts fight in her honor. Suddenly, Haley has to train West Young. All attitude, West is everything Haley promised herself she'd stay away from. Yet he won't last five seconds in the ring without her help.

West is keeping a big secret from Haley. About who he really is. But helping her-fighting for her-is a shot at redemption. Especially since it's his fault his family is falling apart. He can't change the past, but maybe he can change Haley's future.

Hayley and West have agreed to keep their relationship strictly in the ring. But as an unexpected bond forms between them and attraction mocks their best intentions, they'll face their darkest fears and discover love is worth fighting for.

Review:

I really enjoyed this story as I couldn’t not like one of Katie McGarry’s books but I would have to agree with the other reviews and say this was my least favourite of the series so far.

I think what annoyed me about West was how he wouldn’t visit Rachel in the hospital because he blamed himself for her accident, yes he stole her money which led to her having to drag race, but it was completely their dad’s fault for stalling the car! He also wouldn’t listen to Haley whenever she told him not to do something. His pride got in the way a lot which frustrated me. I was strangely happy about Denny being West’s real father, maybe I was just so relieved that West and Haley weren’t cousins! haha, nice twist there Katie!

Was it just me or did we not get the whole story of what happened with Haley and Matt? We know they fought and that it traumatised her but why? Her aversion to fighting puzzled me.

Although I had a lot of feelings throughout the book, it just didn’t make me emotional like the other 3 did. I liked West and Haley and their relationship but I didn’t get attached to them like I thought I would.

They kept mentioning Rachel and Isaiah and my heart just hurt because all I wanted was to continue their story, I could read about them for forever!! I love Abby!! I love her friendship with Rachel and I cannot wait to read her story to find out more about her life! I’m hoping we’ll find out more about Rachel’s progress in Abby’s story as well. I also hope we get a book from Jax’s perspective, I think that would be interesting.

Overall this was a solid 4.5 stars for me, Katie McGarry’s writing is just amazing and she really knows how to suck you into a story. Although I wasn’t as emotionally attached to this story I’m glad I read it as I did really like how it ended. I’m excited to read the next in the series!

Review:

I’ve read this book at least 3 times now so its obvious how much I love it. I wanted to review it though because everyone should know how amazing this series is! I loved the first two books but this is one is definitely my favourite so far.

We have Isaiah and Rachel, two completely different people who are thrown together in an unexpected situation but develop a deeper connection through their love of cars and mutual understanding of each other and the struggles they have gone through in their lives. Their love was so beautiful and just filled my heart with so much emotion!

I loved how we got to see the characters from the first two books in this one while also getting to know Logan and Abby. Isaiah and Noah’s brotherly love and the love, loyalty and respect all the characters have for each other is so touching. I want to be a part of their group! It’s rare to find a book or series in which you love every character and feel as though you know them personally. This is the kind of story that when you’re reading you don’t even realise time is passing because you become so engrossed in the characters and what is happening to them that nothing else matters.

Katie McGarry’s books will leave you with the biggest book hangover but oh is it worth it! I would give all her books more than 5 stars if I could! I cannot recommend this author or this series enough, I promise you won’t be disappointed!
