I liked this follow up better than the first book
Commander in Chief (White House Book 2) - Katy Evans

Commander in Chief (White House Book 2) - Katy Evans

I really feel like this book is what the first one SHOULD have been.  Matt was willing to fight for Charlotte and she in turn was willing to fight for their relationship.  I think that all would have been a lot easier BEFORE he got in the White House but what do I know.

I enjoyed this story and didn't have the nagging thought in the back of my mind about them keeping secrets so I was happy to see the way things turned out.

And I must say, I kept picturing Matt like Justin Trudeau of Canada.  I certainly wouldn't mind looking at a president who looked like him.  *sigh*

Why?
Mr. President (White House Book 1) - Katy Evans

Mr. President (White House Book 1) - Katy Evans

I really liked this one.  I actually wanted to give it a higher rating than I did. I thought that the premise was neat and really added dimension to the story.  I thought that the history between Charlotte and Matt was cool and really helped add depth to their relationship.

But what really stuck in craw was the fact that Charlotte and Matt were keeping things a secret like she was some stripper or something (not that there is anything wrong with being a stripper, but you could see how being with one would make it difficult for someone running for president).  Anyway, here is Charlotte, a more perfect woman for a man running for president doesn't exist), but everyone is hiding her away like some dirty little secret.  And they can't be together if he wins?

The whole thing just doesn't make sense and it bothered me throughout the story.  It ended up taking out some of the enjoyment I would have had with this story.

I will definitely go on to read the next book because I have to know what happens.  I'm hoping that they get their act together.

Commander in Chief - Katy Evans Commander in Chief - Katy Evans Great Second book I love the chemistry between Matt and Charlotte. Not only they reunite but soon there will be another surprise coming their way.

Commander in Chief
Commander in Chief - Katy Evans Commander in Chief - Katy Evans This was boring as hell. Just 40 something chapters about how much Charlotte loves Matt and why he's so perfect. Nothing happens. A few moments could have been dramatic, but they are glossed over in the most extreme way and are resolved off-page.

I really liked the first book, but this one falls disappointingly flat. I'm glad Matt and Charlotte's story is over because I can't imagine how Katy Evans could possibly write another 300 pages about why Matt Hamilton is so perfect.

Also, as the owner of a two year old, I can confidently say that this author has no fucking clue what two year olds are like.

Book two starts off two months after Matt wins the presidency. Charlotte has been in Europe trying to mend her broken heart and Matt has come to a decision concerning his and Charlottes relationship. No longer willing to live without her Matt puts a plan in motion to win her back and keep her forever.

I enjoyed this one just slightly less than I did the first book. It was missing some of the "illicit affair-falling in love" vibe that the first book had and dragged a little for me especially towards the end. This was more a smooth sailing on EVERY front book. And although not a bad thing by any means, I think a little bit more angst or drama or something would have livened this one up for me. It was also very fast moving in terms of their relationship and his years in office. A little TOO fast at times that took away a TINY bit from the relationship for me.

That said, I still enjoyed the heck out of it. It was super sweet and sexy as f@ck. Both characters were very likable and considering politics usually bores me to tears, the author managed to keep me interested through two books loaded with it. So two thumbs up from yours truly.
