Monstress #3
Monstress, No. 3 - Sana Takeda,Marjorie M. Liu

I really like this series so far!

It is at this moment my favorite comic series of the year! The only disadvantages is that each issue is so short, but I like them a lot. There is more insight into Maiko's history as she's making her escape. I like how she's a strong kick-ass female character with only one arm.

The art, as in the previous issues, is wonderful!

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Edit:  Here's an example of the interior artwork. Like I said before, I think it's gorgeous!

After the first issue I was awed enough to immediately continue with the second issue. After some initial disappointment - there were only 30 pages in this issue - I really liked this issue. The artwork is as splendid as before and it is the strongest point of the comic.

Being so short, there isn't too much room for development of the stories, but I got the idea that there were quite some new things is this installment. The story takes a turn for the dark.

Very good issue again!

What drew me in immediately, even though I've had some mixed experiences with the comics from Netgalley lately, was the gorgeous artwork! I mean, just look at the cover, and it's only getting better on the inside.

This first issue was a pleasure to read! A lot of the things that I like were in there (and it was just 70 pages!). Some kind of a war ridden dystopian (?) world led by females, in which Maiko, the one-armed main character and an Arcanic, is battling her way through a group of witches (?). While Maiko looks human other Arcanics are super cute, especially the little fox-child (don't get attached to the cyclops though).

There is a lot of violence in this issue, which I think makes this not for everyone, but as I'm currently on the look out for something that can fill my Game of Thrones-shaped hole, this is exactly what I needed (though it is something completely different).

On to the next issues!
