good read, great characters
His Rip-Roarin' Bride (Texan Brides) - Martha Hix

Wes was a deputy and in the Scarlet Garter Saloon finishing a beer then he planned on going home and have some roast beef a lady had dropped off for rescuing her cat.  But then a tall woman came in pointing a gun and eventually shooting it yelling for Orville who had been playing the piano at the saloon. The woman claimed  Orville did her wrong he had killed her best friend Chuck- her dog- and stolen her money. The woman’s name was Lisa-Ann and she continued to shot the gun but only getting a mirror and bottles of whiskey. Wes had no choice but to arrest her and she still fought him and fired a gun at him but luckily again missed. Wes didn’t want to get interested in Lisa-Ann his dream girl was a gentle  woman of  cultured and conversation.   It turns out Lisa-Ann's father and grandmother were dead and her mother was in prison and that left Lisa-Ann on her on and she had to be tough to even survive. She did like anyone to know she had her own vulnerabilities. She couldn’t appear vulnerable. Wes went to Orville’s sister's  house the night before Lisa - Ann was to go to court  and she gave Wes a box and Lisa-Ann described it as part of her family history. That was when Wes knew Lisa-Ann was telling the truth and he was going to help her. Wes offers Lisa-Ann to keep his home until she settles her debt. Wes is attracted to Lisa-Ann.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a short, funny loveable story. I also liked the way Lisa-Ann spoke I just found the old fashioned way interesting. I liked the plot as well as the pace. I didn’t want to put this book down, it definitely held my attention from start until finish.  I really liked Lisa-Ann and felt bad she had been struggling all alone with just her dog Chuck. I was glad when wes decided to help Lisa-Ann. I really liked Lisa-Ann and Wes together even if they were opposites. This book made me laugh at times and that is always good. I really enjoyed this romance. I loved the characters and the ins and outs and I recommend. I wish I could have rated this 4.5.

Tomato Soup is Lava: "Time Ages in a Hurry" by Antonio Tabucchi, Antonio Romani (Translation)
Time Ages in a Hurry - Antonio Tabucchi,Martha Cooley, antonio romani

Tabucchi’s notion of time (e.g., aging) is a weird one. I grew up thinking it didn't really exist, that it was just something us humans invented as a measurement, like cm or mm. But I also used to think tomato soup was lava. Time is the only God, because it behaves in exactly the way any self-respecting God should: it continues to do its thing utterly dependably, and ignores everything else. The problem, I think, is that our scientific knowledge of time is so limited that in any discussion, we can't avoid drifting into metaphysics, which doesn't really add to the discussion. Regarding "time" as an entity, I feel we are like a caveman looking at the Mona Lisa and wondering how it was done what it could mean. We simply don't understand the extent of what we're looking at, and, like every generation, fall into the familiar trap that, because we are the here-and-now, we are the cleverest there's ever been, so we KNOW the answer, when, in fact, we're not much smarter than all the thousands of generations before us. The generations who follow us will behave in exactly the same way.

If you're into Aging and the Notion of Time in particular, read on.

Amazon credit
All Systems Red - Martha Wells
Wonder Woman: The Official Movie Novelization - Nancy Holder
Gotham: Dawn of Darkness - Jason Starr
Alien: Out of the Shadows - Tim Lebbon
MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #18 Cover A Release Date 8/23/17 - Sonic Boom Studios Fach / Khromov GbR Alex Khromov,Sonic Boom Studios Fach / Khromov GbR Alex Khromov

All Systems Red and Gotham: Dawn of Darkness were full price, but the Wonder Woman novelization was one dollar, the Alien book was two - and has some Ash, and I love this author - and Power Rangers 18 was two dollars, as BOOM! comics are half off after they're out in the world for a month.

For $16 and change, that was a good haul.

Good self-help book
The Joy Diet: 10 Daily Practices for a Happier Life - Martha N. Beck

A good self-help book which I could really have done with about 20 years ago when I started work. Now that i'm retired, it's less relevant but it contains a lot of very good advice about how to enjoy life more and put worries behind us. Recommended to all who feel that they're not getting the most out of life.

Toller historischer Roman
