The Dress Shop of Dreams - Menna van Praag

Lately I can't seem to find the patience, or the will, to write reviews. Especially for books that I don't like ( which unfortunately seems to be the rule lately).

I feel emotionally drained at all levels, so my patience for half assed stories is even more reduced.

This was my first story by the author, and more likely will be my last.

Some writing styles and stories work out for me, others don't: what is supposed to feel magical realism feels lame to me, and sometimes I just feel like dnf a book after a first paragraph.

But then bad things happen, and I feel so lousy, that this is just the kind of story that I should be reading: a story about which I just don't care about.

I thought this was going to be about a character, Cora. Instead there was a myriad of characters _ most of which I couldn't care about _ with their vastly pov's, who would change briskly at the will of the wind?

Every single time I would start feeling some connection to a character, boom, there would be a pov's change.

For me the characters felt cardboard, the romances weak as hell ( with the exception of the police officer and his wife... that one I would have liked to have had more), and one of the characters _ Milly _ almost made me throw the Kobo against a wall.

Not for me I'm afraid.

The House at the End of Hope Street
The House at the End of Hope Street - Menna van Praag While there were moments that fell a bit short, I found this one overall charming; played well with my assumptions, made me think and made me want to visit the place, sounds like a great place for a break.

The Witches of Cambridge
The Witches of Cambridge - Menna van Praag The Witches of Cambridge are an unusual book discussion group, after all they're all witches, with different skills, only one of whom is male, all of whom have unusual gifts. The women are very varied and have different interests, skills and ages. All are looking for a future but they have to work for it.

The back cites Love Actually and P.S. I Love you for read-alikes and I would agree.

The Dress Shop of Dreams
The Dress Shop of Dreams - Menna van Pra... The Dress Shop of Dreams - Menna van Praag Sweet magical realism tale of a dress shop and a scientist who is the owners granddaughters Cora, a nearby bookshop is owned by Walt who has an amazing voice and reads every night on the radio, and holds a love for Cora since they were children. The two of them have never acknowledged their love for each other and Walt decides to respond to a letter from one of his fans, not knowing that his manager has been responding to a lot of the letters.

It's nice and I enjoyed it and I would really love to visit the shop.

THE WITCHES OF CAMBRIDGE by MENNA VAN PRAAG
The Witches of Cambridge - Menna van Praag

I ordered this book from the library before I read the reviews and then when I started reading it I noticed all of the people saying they were disappointed with the book. Well I thought it was a sweet book. I thought the romances although convoluted were fine, slow but fine. Which is actually how I would describe this book slow but fine. 3-1/2 out of 5 stars.
