Mercury In Retrograde
Mercury in Retrograde - Merethe Walther

One lesson to be learned from Mercury in Retrograde: If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Aralyn, just released from the galaxy's worst prison, gets an offer she can't resist. One more job as a smuggler and she will be able to retire. That is, if the job won't retire her first...

Mercury in Retrograde was an okay book. It had a bit of everything in it, which was probably also why I couldn't connect to the story as much as I'd liked. The characters are just too busy running from one thing to another, there's no time for any development. Even from Aralyn subjective POV it is immediately clear who will be the good guys. I've complained at length before about throwing everything in a book instead of really making one thing good in a book, so I will resist the urge to do it here. It got me out of my flow though, and when they were on the run for the nth time, I admit I started looking how much of the book was left and how long it would take me to read it.

I think it had more potential, what with the prison planet and the world in general. But quite a bit of it seemed as the surroundings for the romance plot, unfortunately. I'd expected a bit more.

Thanks to the publisher for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Mercury Retrograde
Mercury Retrograde - Laura Bickle At the beginning of Mercury Retrograde it has been 2 months since the events in Dark Alchemy. This time around Petra Dee finds herself battling a basilisk and a female motorcycle gang/cult who call themselves The Sisters of Serpens. I'll give you one guess what they worship. It's also been 2 months since Gabe last spoke to Petra. The ending of Dark Alchemy was rather heart wrenching as far as Gabe went and was the main thing that kept me reading this series.

While I did not find this book as good as Dark Alchemy I did enjoy it. What I enjoyed about it were the parts about Gabe and The Hanged Men. If there had been more focus on The Hanged Men and less on the giant snake I might have given this a higher rating. I'm not even sure I really liked the overall plot of this book. The parts with the giant snake felt like watching one of those Syfy channel B movies at times. I also kind of felt like the motorcycle gang/cult was a little pointless, and I never really cared about Cal or what happened to him. But I was very happy that Gabe got some resolution to his story line. I kind of wish this had just been a duology instead of a trilogy or series or whatever it's going to end up being, but I will probably stick it out and read the next book because I don't mind continuing on with Petra's and Gabe's story.

Maggie and the Mercury Retrograde (Love and Star Stuff #1) by Anya Monroe
Maggie and the Mercury Retrograde (A Love and Star Stuff Story: Book 1) - Anya Monroe

My life is spinning out of control faster than I can say sorry for all the things I’ve done since this whole planetary shift began.

Like apologize for the fact I made out with my soon-to-be stepbrother. And his stepbrother. And that I’m crushing on the one guy I swore I’d never be into…while keeping it all from my BFF.

Mom says I think the world revolves around me, but the truth is, I’m just trying to survive the worst week of my life.

The universe is legit out to get me. It started when my gaming nemesis deleted my AsteroMine galaxy and it’s only gone downhill from there.

It isn’t my fault. I swear.

My thoughts:

This book was one of the hardest book for me to review in a long time.  I really loved the idea and concept of the book but I hated the main character.

She was one of the most selfish, self-centered and annoying characters I read in LONG LONG time. Many times I wanted to smack the living hell out of her for being such a  rude little brat who makes nothing but excuses for herself for her behavior.

I think  what made it worse for me was that she knew it and acknowledged it but did nothing about it until the end where she pretty much gets what she wants so , really nothing changed.

I really was looking for a book with a great female character who loves geeking out and gaming. Being a major gamer myself and actually havening met my husband in an online game that would have been great.

But really, she had other issues than her video games and took it to a whole new level. We get a whiny self-centered brat that only thinks of herself and hurt others in the process.

Okay, let’s not think of Maggie for a minute and get to the other aspects of the book. I really did like all the other characters, they were real and very likeable and made it for a better read and balance Maggie out.

The story was also pretty entertaining and I couldn’t wait to see what happens next to her. It was well written and kept me going.

Really , I did like the book and idea but I really hated Maggie and she is pretty much the entire book so even though I liked the book and other characters I cannot rate it over 2 ½ -3 stars because of Maggie.

But the thing about people and books is that everyone got different taste and Im sure many people will like or even love Maggie for what she is.

Unfortunately that was not me this time. Sorry

2 ½ ★

Review: A New Look at Mercury Retrograde by Robert Wilkinson

Veteran astrologer Robert Wilkinson brings his authentic wisdom to bear in this look at the dreaded Mercury Retrograde.

Wilkinson covers topics ranging from an introduction to Mercury; what Mercury Retrograde means; he explores the "bad" reputation of Mercury Retrograde and then goes into excellent detail about how Mercury Rx manifests in signs & houses in natal, progressed, transiting or return charts. Also discussed is how Mercury Rx periods influence different signs and the book ends with an interesting selection of famous Mercury Rx people and historical events that occurres during Mercury Rx periods.

While clearly aimed at people with some knowledge of astrology, the text is easy to understand while giving wonderful insights into the different facets of Mercury Rx. Interested amateurs (such as myself) and professional astrologers alike will benefit from the information in Wilkinson's book.

"A New Look at Mercury Retrograde" is a great addition to my astrology library and I'm sure that I'll be referring to it in future, not only to gain insights into Mercury Rx transits, but also when exploring my progressed or return charts.

Book Review: Mercury in Retrograde by C Jane Elliott
Mercury in Retrograde - CJane Elliott

Cute, fluffy little romance about a famous actor who believes he's about to meet his soulmate. Which he does, but is too blind to recognize it. Until he does. Takes him long enough. It's very clear from the beginning who his soulmate really is, except Alex is hung up on someone else, and won't listen, hence the dipshit heroes tag.

Picked this up as a freebie during a DSP giveaway last year.
