Review: A House for a Mouse
A House for a Mouse - Rebecca Westberg

The story of the two mice is a sweet one. Though it really does not really have much of a story to it. The story is how to get a house for a mouse. I like it but it not much of a story. The author does a wonderful job with the pictures in telling the story to a point.

The pictures could be down a bit more. There is not much of adventure to this story. The development of the characters is not there much. This need some work. This is best for children under the age of 7. Children that can read will be able to read it. It good for young children a bit for the picures for children under 5.

The author would have told the story as how the owner of the home came about and then found the mice or mouse and had a bit more of an adventure to how it ends. I say this book would have gotten a better rating. It an okay book to me. Maybe to you it will be better for you. You decide if you want it for your children or not. Like I said it an okay book. Great for children.

A Mouse is the President
Woodrow the White House Mouse - Peter Barnes,Cheryl Shaw Barnes

Woodrow, the White House Mouse shows students what is like to be the President of the United States. This story also shows students where the president lives and the president's many jobs. This is a great book to read before taking a field trip to American Village. I would use this book to help with comparing fiction and nonfiction texts; I would use a text that pertains to the White House.

This is a very informative story that teaches different things about the president. It talks about where the POTUS lives and the many different duties and jobs that they are responsible for. I think using a mice instead of people is more fun and makes it more enjoyable for younger readers. I would use this book in my classroom by having the students discuss different roles of the president and possibly even acting out scenes from the book with the different characters.

Woodrow, the White House Mouse

Woodrow, the White House Mouse is a very informative text for young readers! It gives students an opportunity to learn about the president, where he/she resides, and what jobs he/she might perform. The authors use a mouse to represent the president, making it amusing for young learners. I would love for students to act out the scenes depicted in this text. I think it would be beneficial to compare this text to other texts that relate to the president and the white house; this would allow students to compare and contrast fiction and nonfiction texts. This text would also be great when discussing American symbols!

Rhyming Words with "Hop on Pop"
Hop on Pop - Dr. Seuss

This is a very basic book for beginning readers. This book draws young readers in because of its easy, rhyming language. "We hope on Pop. Pop said stop." This sentence is used in the book and can easily be distinguished by beginners because the word combinations are identical and rhyme. These patterns are predictable and is great for the youngest of readers. My daughter, who is almost three, loves this story because these are all words she can say and relate too. These words include mouse, house, all, tall, small, fall, wall, hat, sat, Pat, and many more. This book is leveled a BR on the Lexile Leveling system.
