Hitting the Books
Hitting the Books (A Library Lover's Mystery) - Jenn McKinlay

Lindsay and Scully are living together. Beth's wedding is over and she is home from the honeymoon and driving everyone crazy with her constant discussion of her honeymoon and where her husband proposed. While at the Crafternoon event at the library, Lindsay is looking out the window and sees Teresa run over and she and Beth run out to provide help after telling people to call 911. When there is a 2nd attempt on her life, she is moved into the house of her wealthy fiance and he hires the twin brothers to protect her. They do a good job, but that doesn't stop the constant attacks.

Robby begs Lindsay to get involved so that he can act as her Watson. He learns information and so does she, giving it to Emma, the police chief, and Robby's girlfriend.

Lindsay even has to get Emma to get a subpoena to find out who had borrowed all the material found in the back of the car used to hit Teresa. It is because of the information found on who borrowed the items that she finds out the truth of who was attempting to kill Teresa.

I borrowed this as an audio and we listened to it while in the car yesterday, finishing it while we went everywhere we had to go (art lessons, Kentucky in rush hour traffic, back to Cincinnati in rush hour traffic, etc). Lindsay even has to get Emma to get a subpoena to find out who had borrowed all the material found in the back of the car used to hit Teresa.

Arsenic and Old Books
Arsenic and Old Books (Cat in the Stacks Mystery) - Miranda James

Charlie and his cat, Diesel, are asked to come to his office to meet with the Mayor, who wants to give more of the diaries from her husband's great-great-grandmother. That night, he starts getting phone calls from a reporter and a visit from a professor that is not liked. They are insistent that they have to have access to the diaries right away and the professor says it has to be exclusive. This makes him curious, so he goes to the office on his day off to go through the diaries. He arrives in time to have another dispute with the professor and see one between her and the reporter. Then the reporter tries again to gain access to the diaries. He goes to lunch and comes back to find that the diaries have been stolen. He can only think of two people who want them this desperately. The night that her place is searched, the professor is murdered. The mayor also turns up with another diary. Charlie is tasked with reading the diaries and helping the police with the information he learns.

As I was reading, I ended up researching arsenic and learned that it was found in fabric, wallpaper, hats, and books. It was amazing how much they used arsenic on and the death rates because no one knew that it was as dangerous or deadly. In fact, one comment I came across was about hat makers and the phrase "Mad as a Hatter."

I like books that make me think and go off on a tangent to research for more information.

And she’s hoping that, in his spare time, he can help her find her long-lost father.

"Peril in the Park"-There's big trouble in the park system. Someone is making life difficult for Jamie Quinn's boyfriend, Kip Simons, the new director of Broward County parks. With the help of her favorite P.I., Duke Broussard, Jamie must race the clock to find Kip before it’s too late.

Jamie Quinn Mystery Collection is a great series. I have to really say how much it stands out that its not just any kind of cozy mystery with the whole bad guy in the closet, who's in the shadows, which neighbor poisoned the pie kind of thing. The author brings to life a fun PI Janet Evanovich kind of crime solving mystery series.

Venkataraman explores a fun unique angle on mystery writing, I love her characters Jamie is a great character with plenty of personality and wit.. She's a heroine that I enjoyed getting to know.I did want just a little bit more from her but I still really liked her.

I highly suggest reading the Quinn trilogy, its fun its different and its a great adventure to part take in. I like the world the author creates, I like the imagery the author brings to the table, I love the textures and the detail Jamie Quinn is great.
