No Time Like The Past
No Time Like The Past (The Chronicles of St Mary Book 5) - Jodi Taylor

I went into this having certain expectations. I was not disappointed.

Returning to St Mary's was great (even though I only left for half a day). Your favorite time-traveling historians return in order to cause more mayhem. No Time Like The Past focuses slightly more on St Mary's related problems, as they travel back in time to investigate the mysterious ghost that Markham keeps seeing, try to secure some more treasures to be found on the grounds of St Mary's and most difficultly, try to get the general public interested in History. Indeed, people-person Max needs to organize St Mary's in order to have a open day, of course in the typical style you've come to expect (Oh, how I wish I could attend it).

It was a great follow up to A Trail Through Time, which left us hanging with certain threats. But, all is well that ends well. (Except for the car, it gets crashed. Again).

"No Time Like The Past - The Chronicles of St Mary's, Book 5" by Jodi Taylor
No Time Like The Past (The Chronicles of St Mary Book 5) - Jodi Taylor

"No Time Like The Past" was something of a curate's egg: good in parts.

Like its predecessors, it evokes the rambunctious spirit of St. Mary's and contains some remarkable descriptions of time's past, most notably in this case, the battle of Thermopylae.

The future of St Mary's is under threat. There are fights and murders and even a wedding and yet I never really managed to make an emotional connection with "No Time Like The Past".

This seemed to me to be a store-bought version of the St. Mary's cake: it had the same shape and colour as the real thing but the intense flavour and sensation of freshness was missing.

It was a fun read, but, if it had been my first St. Mary's book, I might not have made it to a second.

At least it was lendable and I didn't pay for it...
No Time Like The Past (The Chronicles of St Mary Book 5) - Jodi Taylor

I loved pretty much everything Jodi Taylor wrote until this point.

But this was too much of the same old. It had the same banter, the same tea-drinking, the same problems, the same drama etc.

I was annoyed with Max's stupidity - it got very clear that should something like time travel be possible, no one in his or her right mind would send historians back in time.

They are obviously careless, emotional and unable to assess risks properly.

In what kind of lunatic world view is a time and place where religious fanatics rule a safe trip??? And this after they already lost another life in a trip back into a burning London...

This was so incredibly stupid - it lost me and ruined the series for me.

I am not interested in repeats and this felt like a bad deja vu.

This has been me all day as I run across posts, videos, and pictures of people discussing Reading Rainbow. I can't quit singing the song and weeping with joy.

2million dollars!

Sometimes I love people as much as I hate them.
