Playing to the Gallery: Helping Contemporary Art in its Struggle to be Understood - Grayson Perry

“It’s easy to feel insecure around art and its appreciation, as though we cannot enjoy certain artworks if we don’t have a lot of academic and historical knowledge. But if there’s one message that I want you to take away it’s that anybody can enjoy art and anybody can have a life in the arts - even me! For even I, an Essex transvestite potter, have been let in by the art-world mafia.”

If you're interested in the (often bewildering) art world, I highly recommend this funny, charming, and insightful book by artist Grayson Perry.

Note: I got this book for review purposes through NetGalley.

Hypermodern Times - Gilles Lipovetski,Andrew Brown,Sebastein Charles

"The hypercontemporary individual is more autonomous but also more fragile than ever, in proportion as the promises and demands that define him become ever vaster and more massive. Freedom, comfort, quality of life and higher life expectations do not blunt the tragedy of existence; they merely make its scandal crueller."

This week's book is Hypermodern Times by Gilles Lipovetsky. Do you recognize yourself as a hypermodern individual?
