Hôtel Olympia par Élisabeth Vonarburg
Hôtel Olympia - Elisabeth Vonarburg

English to follow.

And I’m finally finished!

This book could have been interesting except that nothing much happens for so many pages that the reading became somewhat painful. Even mid-way through I was wondering whether we were going anywhere with the Hôtel story or whether it would end with the rediscoveries of Danika’s memories. Even the resolution of the end took about fifty pages. I haven’t yet decided whether I’ll try the other book by Élisabeth Vonarburg that caught my eye. I’m giving just one star to this one because by the end I was just so tired of the book. Almost 600 pages of this!

Reading progress update: I've read 336 out of 591 pages.
Hôtel Olympia - Elisabeth Vonarburg

I feel like there's an interesting story in here somewhere but this book is just so sloooooow. Danika is still reminding herself that she was just going to go along with these people and make a call on whether to accept the hotel people's explanations later. Well, she was only tens of pages ago anyway.

At this point she should just admit that she's either suffered a psychotic break with reality or this fantastical stuff is real.

I'm not sure I know what the actual plot is supposed to be. I mean, Danika has come back to the hotel and she's learning about her family, but to what end...? Shrug.

Maybe this is why the book hasn't been translated.

Finally making some progress on this one...it's not uninteresting, but I just haven't been in the mood to read it.

« Toomi s'est laissé glisser dans le sofa, où les deux chatons se sont approprié ses cuisses pour s'endormir aussitôt, ventre offert et pattes en désordre. »

This image amuses me, with the two kittens sprawled on their backs with their legs every which way (kinda like my cat does).

"ventre offert et pattes en désordre" = "belly offered and legs in disorder", more or less.

Olympia Heights: Lightning Rod (The Olympia Heights Comic Book 1) - Sam Albro,Amy Leigh Strickland

The storyline is just dumb, and there's no indication that this is really going anywhere.   Or at least it's going very slowly.

A girl goes missing and the guy who likes her - and pretends not to, but very badly - might be lightening.   (And seriously, dude, 'ew, no, I don't like her, but will hit people who say things about her' makes me think you might be eight and not know what to do with your super new crush.   I expect he'll pull on her hair later on?)

The dudes in this are supposed to be in high school, but they look like this:

So they act like they're eight but look like they're creepy mid-thirties business executives reliving their glory days.

I can't even with this bullshit.   Just no.

I'm gonna be so pissed if I read this and can't use it for bingo.
