Hot Combat
Hot Combat (Ballistic Cowboys) - Elle James

This had one of the tropes I really don't like and stay away from (secret baby- you can easily guess). However, in this book, it didn't bother and piss me off like it usually does. Charlie's motivations and secrecy made sense to me. She still took away a choice from Jon, but I still liked her. The plot line was relevant to today (right wing anti government sentiment and using arms to make the displeasure known and it was based in the West- which is something that has happened in this general area- see the Bundys and the occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge).
There were a few things that didn't make sense to me/just made me roll my eyes. One of suspects spouses was interviewed and she said something about how she doesn't know how to use their computer and they took her at her word (I got the impression that because she was an older woman she wouldn't know computers). Another one was how 30 yr olds having mad internet/computer skills because (you know) they grew up with it.
I did like this one. The main characters was interesting and likable.
I read this for Romance-opoly Soldier Street sun track

THE LAST REAL COWBOY by Caitlin Crews
The Last Real Cowboys - Caitlin Crews
Brady has come home after the death of his father to help his brothers run the family ranch.  He's finding it hard to deal with the attitudes of his brothers.  Going to the bar one night with his best friend Riley, he sees Riley's sister, Amanda, working behind the bar.  He tries to keep the best friend code but Amanda does not make it easy for him.  Temptation gives in and Brady and Amanda start a secret affair.  How long will it last?

This can be read as a standalone.  I like that Amanda went after what she wanted.  I also liked that she could be honest with herself even if she did not share her truths with others.  Brady figures he is damaged goods but I love how Amanda protected and stood up for him.  It makes me rethink a lot about himself.  I loved that Brady made the decisions he finally did.  I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more of this author.

The Last Real Cowboys - Caitlin Crews

It starts out a bit frustrating with how blind all the men around Amanda seem to be when it comes to her, and her wants and needs. I got quite annoyed at Brady when he kept treating her like a child who didn’t know any better or her own mind, but from the point at the barn that he tries to use as a goodbye gift to the end of the story, it becomes a sweet country, small-town romance that was enjoyable and sweet. The passion was good, not overly descriptive, but still enough to keep the pages steamy. Amanda was the best fit for Brady and when she stood up to his brothers for him, that was the best scene in the whole series, I think. Both of his brothers needed to be dressed down for how they treated him. I liked it. I think Hannah and Ty’s story might be my favorite out of all of them, but this one was enjoyable and entertaining.

New Release Review! Once Upon a Cowboy Christmas (River Ranch #3) Soraya Lane!

Cody Ford left town years ago and never looked back. He content being a Wall Street honcho, but his father not getting any younger, so he headed back to Texas, to the family ranch for the holidays. I am joining them for the holidays so I can have a front row seat when the last person Cody expects to find at the ranch is his one-time girlfriend! Enjoy and don't forget to add ONCE UPON A COWBOY CHRISTMAS the 3rd book in the River Ranch series by Soraya Lane to your shelves!

Billionaires, cowboys, and romance collide during the holidays in this next book in the River Ranch series!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year at the Ford family ranch. Will one cowboy’s homecoming be the greatest gift of all?

He left town and never looked back.

Cody Ford is a Wall Street honcho with humble Texas roots. This holiday season, he’d be content to just stay in New York and not face his family―and dodge their questions about when and with whom he plans to settle down. . .and if he will do so back at home. But his father isn’t getting any younger, and Cody doesn’t want to miss any last chances to see him and the rest of the folks back on the ranch. The last person Cody was expecting to see? His one-time girlfriend, Lexi Murphy, who’s been working as his dad’s new live-in nurse.

She never forgot him. Can she ever forgive him?

Lexi still holds a grudge against Cody. Back then, the college-bound heartthrob believed he was too good for a small-town girl like Lexi. But now Cody can’t help but see her in a whole new light. Could it be that this beautiful single mother with an unbeatable can-do spirit is the one he’s been waiting for all along? That depends on whether Cody can prove to Lexi that, this time, he means business―and if a sudden snowstorm can lend just the right amount of Christmas magic to help move things along. . .

He’d be content to stay in New York and dodge his family’s questions about when and with whom he plans to settle down and if he will do so back at home. But Cody Ford’s father is getting any younger and Cody doesn’t’ want to miss any last chances to see him and the folks back on the ranch. Lexi Murphy is working as Cody’s dad’s new live-in nurse and she holds a grudge against Cody since he believed he was too good for a small-town girl but she ever forgot him.

This second chance holiday romance is an angst ridden, emotionally gripping read that puts readers through an emotional wringer as Cody and Lexi tries to overcome the past and some emotional issues. Readers can’t help but experience all the emotions of the strong, compelling characters as they draw readers into their story which means they shed some tears but also hope and forgiveness as Cody works to prove that this time, he means business.

The plots is steady paced and captivates readers right from the start while keeping the readers glued to the pages with suspense as the HEA remains in question until the very end. Lots of family and secondary characters add that something extra to the story that makes it enjoyable and while Cody may be a bit of over dramatic, the magic of the holiday season and spirit of togetherness during the holidays makes this a gratifying and entertaining read.

New Release Review! Tangled Up In Christmas (Texas Heat #2) Lisa Renee Jones!

Fate has sent Jessica back to her home town of Sweetwater Texas so she tries her best to get TANGLED UP IN CHRISTMAS and not in horse wrangler Roarke Frost! Enjoy and don't forget to add TANGLED UP IN CHRISTMAS the 2nd book in the TEXAS HEAT series by Lisa Renee Jones to your shelves!

I might be a country girl from the same small town of Sweetwater, Texas, as horse wrangler Roarke Frost, the girl next door who knows him like few know him, but I didn't know enough to save my heart.

He's the reason why I left Sweetwater behind.

But now fate proves she loves a wicked twist and sends me back to Sweetwater to pull together a Christmas festival—and I run smack into the man again, quite literally. His body is pressed to mine, his hands on my arms, and I'm melting like chocolate in the sizzling Texas sunshine. And I run.

I know it’s not exactly respectable, but it works, just not for long. No matter how much I try to get tangled up in Christmas, I end up tangled up in Roarke instead—and the man has me feeling the heat of our attraction and the warmth of our past friendship. He feels like Mr. Right, but history says he’s Mr. Wrong.

But if he wants a second chance, Roarke Frost is going to have to work for it. He’ll need to prove to me that this holiday is a season of new beginnings, the kind that last forever.

She left Sweetwater, Texas and horse wrangler Roarke Frost behind when he broke her heart but now fate sends her back in a wicked twists and she runs smack into the man again.  No matter how much she tries to get tangled up in Christmas, she ends up tangled in Roarke instead and he feel like Mr. Right, but history says he’s Mr. Wrong. So if Roarke wants a second chance he’ll have to prove that this holiday is a season of new beginnings, the kind that last forever.

This holiday romance is very emotional but heartwarming and full of Christmas spirit. The characters are strong, compelling and easily draw readers into their story which has a complicated and heartbreaking past. The hero and heroine still has oodles of sizzling chemistry but the relationship has some emotionally turbulent obstacles to overcome and some secrets that have to be revealed which keeps reader glued to the pages of this second chance romance.

The holiday makes reaching for that second chance even more heartwarming and special throughout the steady pace of putting together a Christmas festival and the entire story has lots of holiday spirited events peppered throughout that really warms the heart and makes readers feel happy and good. The author paints such vivid imagery that readers feel as if they are part of the story which makes it easy to become completely captivated by the hero and heroine of this holiday romance.
