A Bear Called Paddington
A Bear Called Paddington - Michael Bond,Peggy Fortnum

I picked this one up because Paddington was the answer to one of our trivia night questions. I missed this one and realized I didn't know anything about Paddington beyond darkest Peru, marmalade sandwiches and the train station.

It's a marshmallow book (sweet and light). Each chapter reads almost like a short story. Paddington has some interesting adventures, but I wasn't interested enough to seek out any more of his books.

Totally entertaining!
A Bear Called Paddington - Michael Bond,Peggy Fortnum

Paddington bear was found in a London train station with a note around his neck saying, "Please look after this bear, thank you." The Browns just couldn't pass by and do nothing, so they took him home, not realizing that things would never be the same. Paddington was a sweet bear and he tried to do the right thing, but somehow it always ended in a mess. Grab a copy of this book and experience all of the crazy predicaments that Paddington finds himself in. Trust me, you won't want to put it down. It's too much fun!

Use in the classroom: I would use this book during Literature circles and have students really dig deep into the text. I might even have a research project on Peru and London... have students find facts about each. I would also like them to create their own suitcases and bring things from home that are special to them.

Target grades: 3rd-5th

This book is about a young bear traveling from the Darkest Peru to find someone to watch over him. His original name was one that no one was able to understand. So when the Brown family met him at the Paddington station, they ironically named him Paddington. This book is great for older elementary grades about 4th and 5th grade. I would use this book in my classroom as a joy read, but I would also use it as a way for my students to learn how to research and learn the history of the teddy bear. I could get my students to get on iPads, laptops, or other devices and research the history of teddy bears. Then get them to write a paragraph with their findings.

This book is about a bear who is found at the bus station by a family. There was a sign on his luggage that said "please take care of this bear. Thank you". The family did just that, but they did not know the the bear could be so much trouble. I would use this a 1st or 2nd grade setting as a read aloud and have the students use their prier knowledge about bears and compare them to the bear in the story.

I love the book Paddington. I would use this book in the classroom for compare and contrast lesson. We would compare this teddy bear to other books we have read about teddy bears. We would also talk about all the human characteristics that Paddington has. I would use this book in 3rd-5th grade.
