Susie has had a crush on her boss for the year she has worked for the company. Her best friend, Mark, comes over after work but she is off hand with him, and he leaves her apartment. The next day her boss tells her she is going to a charity function with him, so she asks Mark's advice for an outfit. Since he does not answer her calls all weekend, she buys lunch and goes to his worksite. Will he be happy? Will Susie be happy? Who will she choose--her boss or her best friend?

This story was so short that everything happens so fast. I never had a sense of the characters. I had no idea of who she should be with. I assume she made the right choice, but this was a vignette where I knew what was happening but not what emotions were being felt. I would like to see this expanded and more character and plot development.

Meine Meinung:
Das Buch besteht aus acht Doppelseiten, die sich je einer Frage widmen. Die ausformulierten Fragen werden jeweils mit einem kurzen Text beantwortet.

Der Text von Patricia Mennen ist kindgerecht. Eine einfache Satzstruktur und wenige spezifische Wörter zeichnen den Stil aus. Der Text eignet sich gut zum Vorlesen.

Die Illustrationen von Peter Nieländer sind gelungen. Sie sind detailliert genug, um viel zum Entdecken zu bieten, jedoch nicht überfrachtet.

Auf fast jeder Doppelseite sind Klappen untergebracht. Sie animieren auch die Kleinsten, sich das Buch genauer anzusehen. Zudem ist ein Suchspiel enthalten.

Inhaltlich deckt das Sachbuch die wichtigsten, aber nicht alle Aspekte ab, wobei ich das Thema Sternbilder unnötig finde. Als Einstieg in die Raumfahrt, die Astronomie und die Astrophysik eignet es sich aber definitiv.

Die Sachbuchreihe wird für Kinder von zwei bis vier Jahren ausgewiesen. Diese Altersangabe kann ich nur zum Teil nachvollziehen. Für Zweijährige ist der Inhalt zu kompliziert und in Gänze nicht erfassbar.

Das Cover gefällt mir sehr gut.

Mein Fazit:
„Sonne, Mond und Sterne“ aus der Reihe „Wieso? Weshalb? Warum? junior“ von Ravensburger ist ein ansprechend gestaltetes Sachbuch zum Thema Himmelskörper. Leider kommt es nicht ohne zusätzliche Erklärungen aus und ist nur für den älteren Teil der Zielgruppe verständlich.

What the heck!?  You can’t be serious? I cringed a few times as I read this book, for the main characters were walking blindly.  They lived in fear, they were risking their own lives and the lives of their own children as they dodged not being caught and deported.  Sometimes I wondered if they even knew what complications lied ahead or if the thought of moving backwards was not option so they didn’t consider it.  I was hoping for the best and I feared the worse was headed their way. When would it ever end?

It was sweet when they fell in love and had their first child but when they decided to flee Columbia, the choices that had to be made and their actions totally changed the tone of the book.  They were headed to America, where a better life awaited them, didn’t it?  Entering America, they were beginning their new lives as illegal immigrants, earning money under the table, and “just surviving.”  When the couple started having more children, I was getting nervous.  More mouths, more responsibilities and additional individuals to hide.  The status of their children was now mixed and I wondered, how would that play out when it was time to go back to Columbia.

With the return date on their Visa’s coming up, the thought of returning home doesn’t sound like something they’re ready for.  Do they really have a choice? This was an eye-opening book, as the family makes some difficult decisions which places additional burdens on them.  This book covers a lot of hard topics including racism, alcohol, some sexual assault and animal abuse (small section).  It was definitely a book that got me thinking, a book that I’m glad that I read.   I received a copy of this book over a year ago from NetGalley and Simon & Schuster in exchange for an honest review.  

What a beautiful story!
I love reading about animals, but to read it from the animals perspective is way cooler! It was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster though. Not every chapter had a happy ending. That's what made this story brilliant though. It captured everything you could imagine for that space and time. Once, I got choked up, had to put the book aside for a few minutes before finishing.
I look forward to The One and Only Bob.  So much so, in fact.
