Rainbow Fish
The Rainbow Fish - Marcus Pfister,J. Alison James
AD410L

Pre K - 5

This book is about a beautiful/unique fish who learns to make friends by sharing.  I would use this in my classroom in an art lesson.  I would discuss colors and allow them to make their own fish.  I would also use this for a lesson in sharing.  I would make sure that the kids understood that sharing was a great way to make friends, and that they would benefit from always being nice to their friends.

The Rainbow Fish - Marcus Pfister,J. Alison James

This book is a great choice for children because it is colorful and creative for them to read. Each page has a different type of texture the main characters scales to grab the students attention. This story tells the story of a fish that is so prideful about his own scales, but loses friends because he refuses to share. When he seeks friends he discovers that the way to gain friends is to share his scales with others. This story would be great to use in the classroom for an arts and craft project and for teaching sharing to younger students for a shared reading lesson. This story would be useful for a 1st grade classroom and is a Lexile Level of AD410L. A great read for the classroom!

The Rainbow Fish

This book is great for understanding differences between people around us. We may not look the same but may have common interests. I think this book would be good for any grade but for reading purposes it may be good for higher grades because of the language and how many words are on a page. I would use this in my classroom by giving the students a blank picture of the rainbow fish and they are to decorate it in anyway they feel. This will demonstrate that everyone is different and unique. The students could also write positive attributes about themselves that makes them unique. The Lexile Level is AD410L.

The Rainbow Fish

Grade Level: Pre-K-K, 1-2, 3-5

Lexile Level: AD410L

The rainbow fish is a beautiful fish with many shimmering scales. When his friends come along and ask to have a shimmery scale, he tells all of them no and they all leave him. Then, when he wants to play with them, no one wants to play with him because he was selfish with his scales. He has to share his scales to get his friends back. I would use this book to teach the value of friendship to my students and to teach them to all be kind to one another. I would also use it to teach sharing.

This book is about a fish with very beautiful scales, who is asked to give away one of those scales. The rainbow fish refuses and the other fish claims to never play with the rainbow fish again. So rainbow fish gets advice from the octopus who tells him to share his scales. Once he finds the other little fish, he gives a scale away. After that, other fish ask for some of the beautiful scales also. I would use this book as a way to friendship building in the class. We could make our own scales and put the on a board in the shape of a fish.
