#38 - Landline by Rainbow Rowell
Landline - Rainbow Rowell

I had heard so many things about this book since I started watching booktube videos I had to read this. I definitely enjoyed reading it, it was really fun and enjoyable. I really needed some contemporary read to get back into reading because I was in a kind of slump.

I am used to reading books about teenagers and it was refreshing to have older main characters. I also liked the fact that Georgia, the main characters, is a TV writer, it is not that common in books and it was great to learn more about this lifestyle.

The plot was not the most important part of the book, not a lot happen, but you get a lot of flashbacks and you learn more about the past of the characters. I think it was really well done.

If you like romance, but not cheesy romance, I totally recommend reading this. If you are in a reading slump and don't know what to do, it could help you

Fangirl by Rowell, Rainbow (2014) Paperback - Rainbow Rowell

A connection I had to this book recently is when Cath went out of her way to help her sister in the hospital. I have 3 sisters and I know that if anything bad happened to them i would also go out of my way to help them. My previous predictions were accurate. I had predicted that Cath would struggle in college. I was right. She is having a hard time managing writing and her college classes.

My buddy Hannah feels that the author we are reading writes with emotion. I agree with her. All of the characters she writes have strong emotions and have difficulty dealing with all of them.

Fangirl by Rowell, Rainbow (2014) Paperback - Rainbow Rowell

The author Rainbow Rowell often writes about people who talk a lot, people who feel like they're screwing up, and people who fall in love. This is especially true in her book, Fangirl. The main character Cath falls in love with a boy named Levi. The whole time they are falling in love, she feels like she is messing stuff up with him. She is very sceptical that he likes her or that anyone likes her. Rainbow Rowell's biography said that as a teen she was very cynical about love and romance. This is reflected in most of her books since the characters are sceptical about love but end up falling in love anyway. Also in this book Cath reads/writes fanfiction. Rainbow Rowell said that she also reads/writes fanfiction. The author and Cath have many similarities.

#67 - Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
Fangirl by Rowell, Rainbow (2014) Paperback - Rainbow Rowell

Fangirl is one of the first book I heard about when I started watching Booktube videos back in the day, but it took me a lifetime to decide to purchase it and read it. I finally found the motivation to read this and I kind of liked it. But I was not such a fan; I thought I would like it way more than that. Maybe I should have read it when I started university 5 years ago, it would have made me feel closer to Cath I guess. Reading it today made me feel so far away from these characters, which is weird because I read a lot of YA contemporary and never have this feeling.

I love the idea of Cath and her sister Wren. I have a bigger sister and we have never been really close. I mean, we like spending time with each other etc. but we never talk about our problems. Reading about Cath and Wren was weird for me, I’m not used to such strong sister relationships and it was cool to see how they interacted with each other.

The romance was so realistic, I totally adore it. It shows how difficult it can be when you are kind of shy and “socially awkward”; it was not the perfect romance you find in most books. It felt so real. Cath is really nerdy and Levi is kind of insecure even if it does not show. I love how their relationship develops throughout the book.

I think the thing I like the least about this book (and I guess many people will disagree because it is kind of the point of this book) was all the little stories about Simon Snow. I love the whole concept of Cath being a real fan and needing this fictional world to escape the real one, but I did not really care reading about Baz and Simon, it was not a pleasant experience for me. I guess I will not read Carry On, but I understand why everybody is so excited about it and I think it was a great idea to write it. But it just did not work for me.

This book was a really interesting about leaving your comfort zone, meeting new people and struggling with life in general. I really wish I had read this book sooner, I think it would have make a big different in my rating.

Quick review of Fangirl
Fangirl - Rainbow Rowell

Fangirl
by: Rainbow Rowell

A book by bestselling author of a novel  ’’Eleanora and Park’’. This book tells a story about a young gitl called Cather, an ousider, loner, and most importantly a book lover.

Fangirl follows an 18-year-old introvert at her first year of university. It’s a lovely, emotional and a very relatable story. I love everything about it, the characters are develpoed in a proper way and the plot is well-writen. My favorite part in the novel is her relationship with Levi and the way she cares for her family. Levi is a young man she meets on her first day. Their relationship blooms into such a beautiful flower, and I think I never fell in love with any character like I did with Levi.

I would recommend this book to everyone, it doesn’t matter if you are a boy or a girl, if you are 14 or 46... This book will make you smile, and cry and it will make you feel butterflies in your stomach.

Review by: I.S. / The nerd from the back of the classroom

***

I'll probably do a full review once I'm finished with studying. But I'm sick so that just might be the reason of me having some spare time, so I'll see what can I do about that. This book is amazing and I read it 3 times by now and it's totally worth it.

By the way, my friend and I just published a book on Wattpad so you can go and check that out if you want. It's called "The Sister Chronicles: Book 1" and here is the link: https://www.wattpad.com/story/37388803-the-sister-chronicles-book-1
