I don't remember if I read the book before or after the movie came out...but I enjoyed both quite a bit.  This story has always stuck with me, along with the "stay gold" quote.  It's a classic story for a reason, from the foreshadowing to the quotable quotes.  With some of my all-time favorite characters to this day...Johnny, Ponyboy, Dary, Soda Pop, Two-Bit, and even Dallas...awe man, how could you not love this book, even with its tendencies to be somewhat corny.  The excellent narrator of this captured the voices of the actors who played each of these characters perfectly...especially Patrick Swayze, C. Thomas Howell, and Ralph Macchio.   He made it feel like the actors themselves narrated this.

๏ ๏ ๏  My Thoughts ๏ ๏ ๏

I previously read an ARC of this back last year, and since the second book comes out soon, and because I loved this, I wanted a refresher on what all went down.   My original review is posted below...

I loved this!!! Thank you, to whoever decided I was worthy of an ARC of this. I seriously wondered if I would like something by Jay Kristoff without Amie Kaufman involved…but, I totally did.  I was thrown off by the dialogue, for the first few chapters, which I would say is somewhere between Dust Lands Series and the Illuminae Files.  The world in this is fantastic, fleshed out perfectly, with just the right amount of world building.  The pacing is intense.  The action is top-notch, non-stop and depicted in a way that's easily followed.  The characters are possibly my new favorites. The twists at the end were unexpected and I can't wait for book #2.  Oh, and I'm for sure doing a re-read/listen on Audio of this before that second book comes out.

The audio was well done, Erin Spencer was perfect for the voice of Eve/Anna.  Despite her being perfect, I still think I preferred reading this over listening to this.  Just a smidgen, though.  I seriously don't know why I feel that way, normally I prefer Audio.

Loved it on Audio, and I knew I would...With Full-Cast narration, it totally rocks.  If you've ever thought about trying out an Audiobook, this is good series to start with, the only issue may be that it could you spoil you for most books which only have one, maybe two, narrators.  I read an ARC of this earlier in 2018 and my review can be seen here.

Kady, Ezra, Hanna, and Nik narrowly escaped with their lives from the attacks on Heimdall station and now find themselves crammed with 2,000 refugees on the container ship, Mao. With the jump station destroyed and their resources scarce, the only option is to return to Kerenza—but who knows what they'll find seven months after the invasion?

Meanwhile, Kady's cousin, Asha, survived the initial BeiTech assault and has joined Kerenza's ragtag underground resistance. When Rhys—an old flame from Asha's past—reappears on Kerenza, the two find themselves on opposite sides of the conflict. With time running out, a final battle will be waged on land and in space, heroes will fall, and hearts will be broken.

๏ ๏ ๏  My Review ๏ ๏ ๏

This series...I'm so sad that I'm completely done with it...bbbuuuttt...I'm happy I own all 3 books plus the audio versions so I can always read/listen to them again.  Because, Damn.

Check out that stellar full-cast list of narrators, below...it's quite the collection of voices, and they all make this phenomenal on Audio.  I'm going to keep this short and sweet and end with a...THANK YOU, Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff for an amazing journey.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
End of Days is the explosive conclusion to Susan Ee’s bestselling Penryn & the End of Days trilogy. After a daring escape from the angels, Penryn and Raffe are on the run. They’re both desperate to find a doctor who can reverse the twisted changes inflicted by the angels on Raffe and Penryn’s sister. As they set off in search of answers, a startling revelation about Raffe’s past unleashes dark forces that threaten them all.
When the angels release an apocalyptic nightmare onto humans, both sides are set on a path toward war. As unlikely alliances form and strategies shift, who will emerge victorious? Forced to pick sides in the fight for control of the earthly realm, Raffe and Penryn must choose: Their own kind, or each other?
Re/read on Audio:
I gave this 5+ stars back when I read this in 2015, with my reread on Audio, I'm lowering that rating, but only slightly.  I realized with this re-listen that maybe I didn't enjoy this quite as much as I thought.  I think it was due to the slight awkwardness of the romance-y content.  Maybe, that kind of smexy stuff isn't something Ms. Ee excels at...I still adore that ending, though.  "Penryn and the End of Days" is still, and always will be, one of my all-time fav series!!!
