I feel like I should get a cookie, or something.
The Fiery Cross - Diana Gabaldon

I mean dang. I finally finished this book. I quit reading book 3 a few months ago, but I got so excited after more Outlander TV Show stuff came up that I decided to give the series another go. We know I loved book one. It's on my faves shelf. But book three was hard and I had to flounce and then go crawling back to it. Now, book 5 is done and I only have 3 more to go... oh, wait, there'll be a book 9.

So, all that said, I didn't really like this book that much. It was pretty much just eleventy billion pages of life on the mountain. How she made things. What they did to make things. Like a "IF you're ever caught in the past, here's how to..." book. I'm pretty sure I could survive in the 1700s now thanks to this tutorial.

It took me like 2 weeks to read this book. Normally I read a book in 1 or 2 days. Bah. I can't stop though. I am going to see this through.

The Viper - Monica McCarty

I don't want to quit this series. I love the idea of it, I really do. But the (for lack of a better word) heroines of these stories are some of the dumbest women ever. My neck actually hurts from shaking my head in annoyance and disgust. Can I sue for whiplash? No? Ahhh well. I keep shouting random words like, "Stupid!" and, "ohmigodsofookingwrong!" My cat has left his spot where he was curled at my feet as he is no longer amused.

neither am I, kitty. Neither am I.

ETA: I do love the heroes of the stories though. I just am very angry at their poor taste in women. I refuse to believe Bella MacDuff risked it all to crown Robert the Bruce and ended up, quite literally, hanging in a cage for 2 years, to then be the stupid woman in this story. Sigh. I'm going on to the next book.

And I thought book one was long...
Dragonfly in Amber - Diana Gabaldon

Let me just say that I do love this story. I love the characters.

Now, let me also say that I didn't love this book. All of the Paris stuff? Meh, whatever, I didn't care for it. it was way too long!! And, JFC, can Jamie not catch one effing break? Can we go a bit without him getting beat or even more bad shit pounded on him. In a time where people die from any little thing, this man (and JR, too) seemed to be able to live through anything. It got to the point where I was just like, come on already. Everyone just die. Hey, Claire, maybe you should have picked Frank in book one because you have really fucked up Jamie's life!! Ha.Sorry, I don't mean that, but it felt good to say it.

Even through that, I did still enjoy the beginning and the end, and of course, I'll be starting book 3.

I honestly don't know how there's another 5+ books. I mean, the hell?

review SPOILER ALERT! 2014-02-24 01:48
Jesus H. Roosevelt Christ
Outlander - Diana Gabaldon

but this book is long.

Before starting the book, I went to YouTube and I watched the trailer 5027 5 times. I also watched the hour and a half fan gathering where we get to meet Sam and Cat (the two actors who will play Jamie and Claire). Also, they had set pictures and stuff, so I went in prepared. I had visuals to assist in my adventure.

I think it helped. I definitely liked the book, and I'm probably giving it a bit of a higher rating than I should because some of my TV show future fangirling is colliding with my novel fangirling. Either way... it's going on my favorites shelf.

At first, I liked how descriptive everything was and I appreciated the way the story was told. I was worried about a first person narrative, but it really works here.

I do know that I could have done without a lot of the scenes. I was like. Jayzus, is this ever going to be over? Will she ever let someone in on her secret?(About 1/2 way through I needed to beg for a spoiler to keep me going. Psst. Thanks SilverThistle.)

I definitely did not like the end of the book. I get it. He was messed up in the head after what happened to him and so it would not have been right if Sam and Claire fell back immediately in to a cuddly closeness. I see that. I know it's right. I know it makes sense. But this is fiction and I wanted to grab that Highlander by the hair and point out a few things!

And what is up with ending it right there? UGH. So you really do have to read book two. Luckily, I have all of the books - but gah!!! Didn't I read enough pages yet? I HAZ A NEED FOR ANSWERS!!!!

Ok, I just want to see Jamie bent over a wee one having a disgustingly cute baby talk conversation daddy to daughter. I need to know how they survive Culloden. Is Frank still alive if Black Jack died early? Will Gielis show up again? Will we ever make it back to Lallybroch... ah crap, I forgot how to spell it. Am I the only one who thought that Dougal was hot? Why is Murtagh (also can't remember how to spell it) so quiet around Claire? Is it just because she's a Sassenach or does he know more? Feel free to give me spoilers.

(spoiler show)

I'm going to start book 2 today if work is not too busy!
